December 31 – Jude 1:24-25; “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”

He alone is the One who saves; He alone is the Only Begotten Son.  To Him is all the glory!  My prayer is for the Mormon to know how precious this passage is to me and all of us who call Him Lord and God.  There’s not one Mormon who believes in the Trinity so ask them what they think about the opening page of the Book of Mormon.  Then think about this for a moment and ask yourself; haven’t we all been the woman in John chapter eight; and being so, where would we be if the Mormon Church was right?

_____

“…the woman thrown at the feet of the Redeemer for judgment…But did the Lord forgive the woman? Could he forgive her? There seems to be no evidence of forgiveness. His command to her was, “Go, and sin no more.” He was directing the sinful woman to go her way, abandon her evil life, commit no more sin, transform her life. He was saying, Go, woman, and start your repentance; and he was indicating to her the beginning step-to abandon her transgressions….The Lord’s prophet Amulek had said emphatically: “. . . Ye cannot be saved in your sins.” (Al. 11:37. Italics added.) It was this same Lord Jesus Christ who made the laws, and he must observe them. Accordingly, how could he have forgiven the woman in her deep sin? When she had had time to repent; when she had abandoned her evil ways and evil associates; when she had made restitution so far as she could; and when she had proved by her works and the living of the commandments that she was “born again” and was a new creature-when she had done these things the forgiveness of the Savior could overshadow her and claim her and give her peace.”  Spencer W. Kimball, The Miracle of Forgiveness, pg. 165.

December 30 – Jude 1:21-23; “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.  And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”

_____

Our mission statement in life should be to serve in love to others.  If we witness out of animosity, then it benefits none of us, including the Lord.  If we serve because somebody else told us to do this or that, are you really serving God or are you serving the position you’ve been assigned to hold?

A true missionary’s life is marked with the indelible call from God to go out into the world and spread the gospel.  You won’t be able to sleep, eat or even breathe without doing what He’s called you to do.  Your nights are sleepless; your days become fruitless when you don’t heed His voice.

And even with all that, it’s also understanding and accepting you aren’t the one doing the work, but God.

You are not your own.  You belong to God.  1 Cor. 6:19-20.

Each day my heart cries for the souls of those who truly believe they love the Lord Jesus.  It kills me that the Lord will someday say to them, “Depart from Me for I never knew you”.

I’ve compiled these verses and sayings from the LDS teachings for the people like my own mother to your neighbor.  They work so hard to please, not knowing there is nothing they could ever do to win His affection.  Out of your love for these people, go out and share the truth today!  Have the Mormon think about this teaching from the Church.  Why would the Lord not want you to be content where He places you?  That is true division.

“Let it ever be remembered that no President of this church, no counselor in the Presidency, no General Authority, no member of a stake presidency or of a bishopric or of an elders quorum presidency is there because he wished to be there and requested the privilege. Each is there because he was “called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.” (A of F 5.) Loyalty to leadership is a cardinal requirement of all who serve in the army of the Lord. A house divided against itself cannot stand. (See Mark 3:25.) Unity is basic and essential.”  R. December 29 – Revelation 5:6a, 9-10a; “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain…And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”

_____

This is the second time that John refers to Jesus as the Lamb.  In the gospel of John, he told us of how John the Baptist points to Jesus as the Lamb of God.  In Revelation he tells us that He is the slain Lamb of God, worthy of our praise.  What a beautiful picture we have here of our awesome God!

The word slain literally means cut in the throat for a sacrifice.  His sacrifice is our proof that He paid the price in full for our redemption unto God.

In Mormon theology, Jesus is a created being.  If this is all he is, wouldn’t it leave room for error, therefore nullifying the Lamb of God without blemish?  How could it be that something created could be perfect?  Saying Jesus was created takes away His omnipotence and lessens the wonder of who God is to us.  They can call him the Lamb of God all they want, but it’s not the Lamb of God of the Bible that was created.

“God the Eternal Father, our Father in Heaven, is an exalted, perfected, and glorified Personage having a tangible body of flesh and bones. (D. & C. 130:22.) The designation Father is to be taken literally; it signifies that the Supreme Being is the literal Parent or Father of the spirits of all men. (Heb. 12:9.) All men, Christ included, were born as his children in pre-existence. (D. & C. 93:21-23; Moses 1; 2; 3; 4; Abra. 3:22-28.) This is the reason men are commanded to approach Deity in prayer by saying, “Our Father which art in heaven.” (Matt. 6:9.)”  Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 278.

December 28 – Isaiah 52:13; “Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.”

_____

The Bible makes it very clear as to who is exalted and who shall be abased.  The theme throughout His word is the same; when you lift yourself up, He will make sure you don’t hold that position for long.  The Gnostics of the Biblical age were the group of Christians who had been expelled from the church.  They claimed they were the only true Christians and salvation came through intelligence gained by yourself which elevated and exalted you to a higher status than the rest of the believers.  They believed you received this intellectual status through secret teachings.  Hmm…this sounds very familiar with something else I know!

There’s nothing new under the sun.  Ecc. 1:9-10.

Where is our Beloved Kinsman Redeemer in all this?

Are the marks in His hands making a mark in your life?  If so, how?

What do they mean to you personally?

When you think upon the baby in the manger can you lower yourself enough to bow at His holy bed?  Can you honestly believe in your heart that this isn’t about you?  Why does it always have to be about sex?  What does that have to do with being saved?

“To Latter-day Saints, exaltation is a state that a person can attain in becoming like God-salvation in the ultimate sense (D&C 132:17). Latter-day Saints believe that all mankind (except the sons of perdition) will receive varying degrees of glory in the afterlife. Exaltation is the greatest of all the gifts and attainments possible. It is available only in the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom and is reserved for members of the Church of the Firstborn. This exalted status, called eternal life, is available to be received by a man and wife. It means not only living in God’s presence, but receiving power to do as God does, including the power to bear children after the resurrection (TPJS, pp. 300-301; D&C 132:19). Blessings and privileges of exaltation require unwavering faith, repentance, and complete obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ.”  Encyclopedia of Mormonism, 1-4 vols, 479.

Studying the Book of Mormon 7

 Helaman, the Book of Questions

Interpolate:  to alter (a text) by the insertion of new matter, esp. deceptively or without authorization.

Many times in life we come face to face with God and still wonder why we never see Him.  God isn’t an exalted man as the LDS Church would have you believe, nor does He make personal appearances in human form like in the claims of Joseph Smith.  It’d be kind of difficult to do considering John 4:24 says He is spirit.  However, when people do meet Him it’s oftentimes in the form of a stranger, neighbor, loved one or even an enemy.

That is what I learned when at the age of twenty, the words from a man I would soon consider an enemy challenged me and my heritage.  His name?  Ed Decker.  I’d never heard of him before that day, but his message stuck with me for another decade until I took him up on his challenge.

His theory was that if the Book of Mormon didn’t hold up, the entire structure of Mormonism fell.  This beloved sacred cannon of the LDS Church was and still is so revered that young men and women are willing to drop everything for two years of their young lives to promote its message around the world.

Part of their message is found in the book of Helaman, the seventh of twelve books in the Book of Mormon.  Overall, it’s filled with descriptions of unending wars and “contentions” that are much too vague, leaving their claims with no credibility.  The exposition in the prophecies of the unborn Messiah they mysteriously know about and the miraculous change in the hearts of the people are an obvious fabrication for the BC era.  The writings are proof that Smith was the epitome of an iconoclast.

My major heartbreak as a teenager didn’t come as a result of a boy or not getting front row seats to my favorite band.  My heartbreak came from searching for the Jesus of the Bible in the Book of Mormon and never finding Him.

I spent years trying to reconcile the non-descript Jesus in places like Helaman to detailed accounts found in the gospels.

 John 7:37-39;

“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.  38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.  39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

 My efforts were met with personal disappointment and bewilderment and when I’d voice my frustrations with the bishop, seminary teacher or MIA leaders, I was told we’d find out about “those things when we get there”.  Today, my answer to that is “yes, you definitely will”.  An example of the elusiveness in LDS writings can be seen in Helaman 3:15-18;

“But behold, there are many books and many records of every kind, and they have been kept chiefly by the Nephites.

16 And they have been handed down from one generation to another by the Nephites, even until they have fallen into transgression and have been murdered, plundered, and hunted, and driven forth, and slain, and scattered upon the face of the earth, and mixed with the Lamanites until they are no more called the Nephites, becoming wicked, and wild, and ferocious, yea, even becoming Lamanites.

17 And now I return again to mine account; therefore, what I have spoken had passed after there had been great contentions, and disturbances, and wars, and dissensions, among the people of Nephi.

18 The forty and sixth year of the reign of the judges ended.

So did the records fall into transgression or did the people fall into transgression?

How many wars and contentions took place before and during the time of Helaman?

Specifically, what records had been passed down?

How many people died and when did they die?

What exactly was the aggravation for the wars?

I only have one question for Helaman chapter 4.

How in the world did these people walk from one ocean to the other in one day?  The shortest distance between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans is 2,362 miles.  (San Diego, California to Jacksonville Beach, Florida.)  Helaman 4:7.

In Helaman chapter 5 we’re met with a myriad of questionable events that go beyond the subtlety of injecting the gospel into the BC era.  In this chapter it’s 30 BC and we’re told salvation is only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ; Jesus has been given power from the Father to redeem people from their sins; Jesus is the rock;  Christ is a sure foundation.

Chapter 5 also includes the story of Helaman’s sons Nephi and Lehi preaching with great power and authority and to their astonishment 8,000 Lamanites were baptized.

After this great scenario took place, they were imprisoned by the Lamanite army where they were subsequently encircled by fire.  When the Lamanites saw what happened, they were struck dumb, but Lehi and Nephi assured them it was safe when an earthquake struck.

Along with the earthquake, came a dark ominous cloud and a voice emanating from it.  The voice “pierced” them to the soul telling people to repent and stop trying to destroy the servants of God who came to “declare good tidings”.  Immediately afterwards, another earthquake came along and for the third time the “still small voice” spoke.  Amazingly, the things God told everyone there cannot be uttered by man.

The earth shook again, a natural born Nephite now dissenter, looked over and saw the missionaries who looked like angels.  They were “lifting their eyes to heaven and in the attitude as if talking or lifting their voices to some being whom they beheld”.  The one time dissenter, “Aminidab”, began telling those around him to repent while everyone stood looking at Nephi and Lehi who were by the way, still in the fire.

We’re then told of how the Holy Spirit came down and entered the hearts of men as if they were “filled with fire”.  Just then another voice (a pleasant one this time) told them “peace” because of their faith in “my Well Beloved who was from the foundation of the world”.  It was at this time the heavens opened and angels came to minister to them.

Three hundred people saw this and were told to go out and not doubt God.  The Lamanites went out and gave away their land to the Nephites because of their experience.

So with all that behind us, my questions are many, as I’m sure yours are as well.

Remember our grammar lesson from a few chapters ago?  “Good tidings” is an Old English term originating circa 1100 AD.

Christ is a Greek word for Messiah…it’s 30 BC…I’m sure you’re also wondering why people who were speaking “Reformed Egyptian” in Mesoamerica were using this terminology.

Why is this story of Nephi and Lehi so similar to that of Meshach, Shadrak and Abednego?

Why was God’s voice in a dark and ominous cloud?

Why was the Holy Spirit being poured out into people’s hearts before Jesus had appeared?

Why are they told to lay up a treasure in heaven?  See Helaman 5:8 and Matthew 6:20.

Why do they use the term “encircled about with fire”?  (5:23) This is what the Gentiles did when they sacrificed their children to their false god Molech.

Why is the grammar in this “holy writ” so awful?  Helaman 5:36.

Why were 8,000 people baptized in 30 BC?

Why does it seem the Book of Mormon stories have to outdo the stories in the Bible?

These tall tales say something about the god of the Book of Mormon.  His spirit isn’t very powerful if these guys can’t behave more than a few verses at a time.  I’ve had better luck with my Rottweiler behaving longer than these guys do.

Helaman 5:32 claims the people need to repent for the “kingdom of God is at hand”.  The Kingdom of God is not a place or an entity of a ruler’s kingdom per se.  The Kingdom of God is not mentioned in the Old Testament.  In the New Testament it is referred to by Jesus for the first time in Matthew 13:24.  The kingdom of God is the rule or sovereignty of God.  It is not an organization, nor is it found exclusively within a predetermined denomination.

Christians step into the kingdom of God and live under His rule when we belong to Him.  We cannot add to His kingdom – only He does that – and we cannot make any better or worse.  God rules the kingdom.  We are either subjects in His kingdom even here on earth or we are not.

What exactly were the Nephites doing to become so hardened and entangled with the Lamanites and what did the Lamanites do to become worthy as it states in Helaman 6:2-3?  And why were there churches in 25 BC?

“For behold, there were many of the Nephites who had become hardened and impenitent and grossly wicked, insomuch that they did reject the word of God and all the preaching and prophesying which did come among them.  3 Nevertheless, the people of the church did have great joy because of the conversion of the Lamanites, yea, because of the church of God, which had been established among them. And they did fellowship one with another, and did rejoice one with another, and did have great joy.

The exchanges of power from one leader to another are rather meaningless and less than memorable when you factor in there were no less than 4-5 authors of Helaman.

 In Helaman 6:22 Smith showed us what he was personally involved with when he says the following;

“And it came to pass that they did have their signs, yea, their secret signs, and their secret words; and this that they might distinguish a brother who had entered into the covenant, that whatsoever wickedness his brother should do he should not be injured by his brother, nor by those who did belong to his band, who had taken this covenant.

This is part of the oaths a mason takes.

 Helaman 6:26 should be a real eye-opener for every single Mormon alive.  Pray that my mother sees it won’t you?  It says;

“Now behold, those secret oaths and covenants did not come forth unto Gadianton from the records which were delivered unto Helaman; but behold, they were put into the heart of Gadianton by that same being who did entice our first parents to partake of the forbidden fruit—

Compare this with Moses 5:11; “And Eve, his wife, heard all these things and was glad, saying: Were it not for our transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient.

So Satan is the one that convinced Adam and Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit and Satan is bad, but in the Pearl of Great Price we see that Adam and Eve praised God they committed a sinful act.

How can they both be right?

 On my Gospelink program it says this at the end of Helaman Chapter 6;

“God threatens the people of Nephi that he will visit them in his anger, to their utter destruction except they repent of their wickedness. God smiteth the people of Nephi with pestilence; they repent and turn unto him. Samuel, a Lamanite, prophesies unto the Nephites. Comprising chapters 7 to 16 inclusive.

Where in the Bible does God ever threaten His people?  God does not threaten.  www.dictionary.com says this about the word threaten:  “to utter a threat against; menace, to be a menace of source of danger to, to offer a punishment, injury by way of a threat, to give an ominous indication of…”

The website also listed antonyms and synonyms of the word threaten.  Synonym:  endanger.  Antonym:  protect, defend.

 http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/threaten

Is your god a source of danger to you or is he a protector and defender?  I always taught my kids that the book of Deuteronomy is a love letter from God to man.  He gives us the very best paths and ways to stay safe, both spiritually and physically.

I don’t want my children to be so afraid of God they won’t go to Him for comfort and/or advice.  The Mormons have done this to their people.  How very, very sad.

In Old Testament times the Israelites sacrificed through various blood atonements to make amends with God.  The sacrifices were a covering for their sin.  They repented corporately through the rituals of wearing sackcloth and spreading ashes or everyone participating in a fast.  God’s desire was for them to have a contrite heart during these times which would show they had a willingness to proceed in a new direction for their lives.  Typically just repenting as the New Testament portrays is something the Israelites in the BC era were not accustomed to.

Where in the Book of Mormon does it give these descriptions of how to repent in the BC era?

Chapter seven is a story of Nephi crying because he wasn’t born in the days his father was, he calls people out to repent (it’s now 23 BC).  His sermon on the tower is a lot like what John the Baptist did when he told people to repent for the time was at hand.  He used the word repent 8 times in 15 verses.  He also took the liberty to paraphrase heavily from the New Testament on several occasions through his lamentation on the tower.  Helaman 7:23 is another example of how the Book of Mormon is a fraud.  He quotes a  little from Jesus but changes the names and places around in his warning of destruction to the Nephites passing by on the highway.

Helaman 7:23; “For behold, thus saith the Lord: I will not show unto the wicked of my strength, to one more than the other, save it be unto those who repent of their sins, and hearken unto my words. Now therefore, I would that ye should behold, my brethren, that it shall be better for the Lamanites than for you except ye shall repent.

Luke 10:13-14; “Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.  14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

Chapter 8 tells us Nephi spoke many things which couldn’t be written in verse 3 and in verse 14 he’s telling them that Jesus would be lifted up as Moses lifted up the brazen serpent.

In verse 17 he’s quoting Jesus when He was chastising the Pharisees.  Compare Helaman 8:17 to John 8:56.  It’s here Jesus told them that Abraham rejoiced to see his day, yet here is Nephi saying the same thing 20 years before Jesus was even born.  Then we see in verse 25 he warned them again about their “treasures in heaven”.

In chapter nine he’s arguing with the people and said to them “o ye fools, ye uncircumcised of heart,,,”   The Jews had not been told of this yet – it’s 20 BC.

Helaman chapter 10 says that Nephi prayed long and hard to ask God to smite the earth with famine, pestilence and destruction.  This is what God told Jeremiah to warn the Israelites about when Jerusalem was about to be destroyed by the Babylonians.

Jeremiah 24:10; “And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.

 So God did this twice?

Chapter ten is rather interesting.  Nephi was given power to smite the earth with famine, pestilence and destruction and then he was allowed to “rent the temple in twain”.

It’s really too bad Smith didn’t study the Bible…the veil of the temple was rent in twain, not the temple itself.  Matthew 27:51.

In chapter eleven Nephi plays a little bit of the part in the weeping prophet Jeremiah while pleading with God and takes a little bit of Peter asking God to “stir them to remembrance” and not smite the people, just starve them to death in 11:4.  See 2 Peter 1:13.  He used the phrase again in 11:34 after describing how the contentions were stopped except for when they went out to look for the band of Gadianton robbers on the hill.

Helaman 12:3 serves as the theme for the entire Book of Mormon and the Mormon god.

“And thus we see that except the Lord doth chasten his people with many afflictions, yea, except he doth visit them with death and with terror, and with famine and with all manner of pestilence, they will not remember him.

Helaman 12:7 serves as an example of what the Church thinks of their people and how their god thinks of the Lord’s creation.

“O how great is the nothingness of the children of men; yea, even they are less than the dust of the earth.

An obvious false prophecy takes place in Helaman 13:17, 18, 23 when it claims God will curse the earth.  God promised Noah in Genesis 8:21 that He would never curse the earth again.

Helaman 13:37 says they were surrounded by demons and angels of Satan.  I just can’t imagine why this would be a part of Holy Scriptures or how this could happen to a true believer.

In chapter fourteen we find out the prophet Samuel the Lamanite also prophesied about things that couldn’t be written.

This happened ONE TIME in the New Testament with the apostle Paul when God showed him a vision in the third heaven.  He was told he couldn’t even describe what he had seen.  The other allusions to this type of saying came in the gospel of John 21:25 when he said that if they wrote all the miracles of Jesus the world could not contain all the books.

Yet, nothing is too grandiose with the people in the Book of Mormon is it?  How many times was this phrase used is a mystery to me at this point.

Helaman 14:2-3 is one of two things.  It’s either the most precise prophecy of when Jesus would be born or this is just another outrageous lie of Joseph Smith.  How could they possibly know that five years from that day Jesus would be born?

Do their past writings give this prophecy credibility?

Was the night before Jesus’ birth completely light outside as if there was no night?

Helaman 14:12 makes no sense at all.  How can Jesus be the Son of God and the Father of Heaven?

Helaman 14:22 seems to have copied itself from a previous verse when the temple was rent in twain again.  And just three verses later they’re using the words of Matthew telling people how many will raise up out of their graves and everywhere there will be great destruction.  14:27 is a sign to the reader this is a false prophecy.  They say that there will be darkness over the whole earth for three days.  The Bible says it was three hours.

Helaman ends his writings by sharing with us who they really believe in.  Helaman 16:23 says Satan got hold of their hearts.

Unfortunately, that is the one verse I believe is true in the Book of Mormon.

With Love in Christ; Michelle Grim

December 27 – Philippians 2:10-11; “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

_____

These two verses summarize the glory of God.  The Glory is God Incarnate; Jesus Christ.  Actually, we should read the entire passage in context so go all the way back to verse 5 and go on to verse 11.  It is an amazing passage of scripture and one that every Mormon should be shown and taught.

Mormons believe the glory of God is intelligence, but we see throughout scripture that intelligence leads to pride and the fall; whereas wisdom understands she doesn’t know everything.

LORD:  The Greek word for LORD is kurios.  The transliteration means supreme authority, God, Lord, Master, Sir.

It would mean that every tongue should confess  Jesus is God.

Gnosticism:  It is understood and accepted by many that Paul’s writings to the Corinthian church was in response to what was going on in society at that time.  Gnosticism crept in and made an appearance in the church by the early second century.  This heretical teaching created heated debates and was a major threat to the body of Christ.  By the end of the 2nd century many Gnostics belonged to alternative churches.  Ireanaeus, Tertullian and Hippolytus wrote extensively about the dangers of Gnosticism.  Holman Bible Dictionary also has this to say about pre-Christian Gnostics:

…was not an organized religion but was more a general attitude among thoughtful persons that although ignorance abounded, one could through knowledge come to understand one’s true identity and find union or relationship with the absolute deity. This way of conceiving of a pre-Christian gnosticism supplements the classic view by providing an explanation for the rapid and widespread development of so many diverse gnostic heretical sects so quickly. This view also offers an explanation of why the New Testament could so easily be exploited by gnostic sects.

Glory of God:  While there are many explanations and uses of the word glory, the New Testament limits its use to “doxa”, which in classical Greek means dignity, honor, praise and worship.

Nowhere in New Testament thought or implication does it mean “intelligence”.

See here in the example of the Mormon writings where they believe that intelligence is not created, is eternal and the way to the ultimate level of salvation.  The truth is completely opposite of what is taught here in their works.

_____

“According to latter-day scripture, “The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth” (D&C 93:36). Mankind, too, may be glorified by gaining intelligence…As Christ did not receive a fulness of intelligence at first but continued from “grace to grace” until he received a fulness …so it is with all persons. Whatever principles of intelligence they gain in mortality will rise with them in the Resurrection…

To gain increased intelligence, individuals must be agents to act for themselves, which means that they must be tried and tempted (D&C 29:39), and at the same time, the works of the Lord must be plainly manifest to them …so that they will have choice. In premortal life, men and women were intelligent beings (Abr. 3:21-22) who were given agency by God (Moses 4:3; D&C 29:36)…Intelligence is lost through disobedience, hardening of hearts, and clinging to false traditions (Mark 8:21; D&C 93:39)…Intelligence, however defined, is not created or made (D&C 93:29); it is coeternal with God (TPJS, pp. 353-54).”  Encyclopedia of Mormonism, 1-4 vols, edited by Daniel H. Ludlow, pg, 692.

December 26 – 1 Corinthians 1:18; “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

_____

This verse has always been my call to arms so to speak.  The Mormon cannot stand talking about the cross so the more I engage them in conversation, the more I bring up the subject of the cross.  I like to show them this verse and then 1 Cor. 15:1-5; they soon see they are without excuse and besides once again, it gives them something to think about.

If you’re a Christian you worship a God not confined to a man made grave.  You worship a God who raised His dead Son and brought Him back to life.

There are so many biblical references to sacrifices needing to be made for man’s sin and each of them are a foreshadowing of what was to come through God’s own sacrifice of His Son.  Why would the Garden of Gethsemane qualify?  And where in scripture can we see that the Garden of Gethsemane would fulfill the sacrifice God demanded for righteousness?  These are the questions I would ask the Mormon.

_____

“GREATEST SUFFERING WAS IN GETHSEMANE. We speak of the passion of Jesus Christ. A great many people have an idea that when he was on the cross, and nails were driven into his hands and feet, that was his great suffering. His great suffering was before he ever was placed upon the cross. It was in the Garden of Gethsemane that the blood oozed from the pores of his body: “Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit-and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink,” That was not when he was on the cross; that was in the garden. That is where he bled from every pore in his body.”  Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, 3 vols. 1: 130.

December 25 – Matthew 1:21; “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

_____

Yesterday we saw that the Mormons believe Jesus was born in Jerusalem.  Jerusalem and Bethlehem are not suburbs of each other.  The Mormon will try to tell you otherwise, so don’t be fooled my friend!  Find at least five other names of Jesus and share them with their meanings to the Mormon in your life.  This will be the best Christmas gift they’ll ever receive!

There’s not a Mormon alive who doesn’t believe they are the ones that save the non-Mormon.

Thus, baptizing for the dead, as well as their extensive missionary programs.

“Let us Latter-day Saints, called to be saviors of men called to be saviors of the world, called to be saviors to introduce that which will save mankind and bring them up from their lowest state into a condition where they will be fit to hold converse with Deity. . . . December 24 – Hebrews 11:6; “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

_____

Like little children on Christmas Eve, we are restless when we are not rewarded by the Lord.  We become anxious when we don’t get a quick return after witnessing or volunteering at the bake sale at our church.  We don’t stop to realize that our reward is already here.  Yes, there is a bigger reward in heaven awaiting us, but how much time is wasted while we wait for something better when all we have to do is to look back at history and to Him!

Two thousand years ago our Promise was delivered.  We have an advantage that Abraham never had.  He obeyed out of faith, never receiving the promises but believing God would provide for him. Hebrews 11:13.

The Mormons are working themselves to death and for what?  Nothing.  They are rewarded with nothing but the devastating news they weren’t worshipping the right Jesus that was born in Bethlehem.  Even their own books say He wasn’t born in Bethlehem.  If that simple thing is wrong, what else in their writings could be wrong as well?

What are you waiting for?  Tell them the Promise is already here!

_____

“And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.”  Alma 7:10.

December 23 – 1 John 2:1; “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”

_____

Our advocate is forever with us; He promised to never abandon us in John 14:23 so we take that promise for ourselves and hold it dear to our hearts.  There is absolutely nothing we could ever do to establish our own righteousness.  Nothing.

The Greek work for advocate is parakleôtos.  Para in the Greek means to come alongside, the whole word means intercessor, or consoler.  He’s not going to keep reminding us of our old sin that we’ve already repented of!  Jeremiah 31:31-34 tells us that He will remember it no more.

The “authorities” in the LDS Church are laying an undue guilt trip upon its people.

_____

““And again, “. . . Unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, saith the Lord your God.” (D&C 82:7.)  Would this mean that the person who has returned to the sins he has professedly abandoned must start the process of repentance again from the beginning? that one cannot return to sin and then start repentance from where he left off?

To return to sin is most destructive to the morale of the individual and gives Satan another hand-hold on his victim. Those who feel that they can sin and be forgiven and then return to sin and be forgiven again and again must straighten out their thinking. Each previously forgiven sin is added to the new one and the whole gets to be a heavy load.”  Spencer W. Kimball, The Miracle of Forgiveness, pg. 170.

Doctrine and Covenants 82:7; “And now, verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, will not lay any sin to your charge; go your ways and sin no more; but unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, saith the Lord your God.”

December 22 –1 Peter 5:2-4; “Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.  And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.”

_____

Jesus is referred to as the good Shepherd, the great shepherd and others.  But here it says He is the chief Shepherd.  It means there is none other that fills His shoes of authority.  He has the authority over all things, all people, etc.  To Jesus and Him only do we report and rely upon.  So when you show the Mormon this verse ask him or her how it is that only the Mormon Church has the authority for God?

_____

“Some general authorities are empowered to do one thing and some another. All are subject to the strict discipline the Lord always imposes on his saints and those who preside over them. The positions they occupy are high and exalted…Though general authorities are authorities in the sense of having power to administer church affairs, they may or may not be authorities in the sense of doctrinal knowledge, the intricacies of church procedures, or the receipt of the promptings of the Spirit…Those who join the true Church and keep their covenants gain salvation in the celestial kingdom of God…In the true Church there will be apostles, prophets, true doctrinal teachings, revelation, visions, miracles, healings, the ministering of angels, and all of the gifts of the Spirit…Where these things are found, there is the true Church; where these things are not found, there the true Church is not.”  Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pgs. 134 & 309.

December 21 – Mark 15:17 & Exodus 26:31; “And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head. – “And thou shalt make a veil of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen of cunning work: with cherubims shall it be made.”

_____

Today we have a  hodgepodge of items to share with the Mormon in your life.

Josephus reported the inner veil which was rent in two was four inches thick and horses that were tied to each side couldn’t pull it apart.  The veil represented many things but two of them are; the body of Christ being torn and broken; and its color of purple which signified royalty.

Sadly,  the Jews kept offering sacrifices in the temple for another 40 years after the crucifixion.  Ask the Mormon what he knows about the veil and the crucifixion.  Ask him if he knows that we now have direct access to God and how radical of an idea this must have been to the Israelites at that time!  Now while the Mormon “scripture” that is quoted here today isn’t about the veil, ask them what it means when the Bible said, “Jesus knew that all things were accomplished” and “It is finished”.  This is from the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible so they can’t use the excuse that it wasn’t translated correctly, right?

_____

“After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.  Now there was a vessel full of vinegar, mingled with gall, and they filled a sponge with it, and put upon hyssop, and put to his mouth.  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished; and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”  JST John 19:28.

Studying the Book of Mormon, Part 6(c)

The Continuing Confusion of Alma

Alma 46:39; “And it came to pass that there were many who died, firmly believing that their souls were redeemed by the Lord Jesus Christ; thus they went out of the world rejoicing.

In Alma 42 Mormons will tell you that the theme of the chapter was clearly “justice and mercy”.  While it may seem this is the case on the peripheral, we must look deeper into their theology and take it all into account to determine truth.  For me the entire chapter wraps itself around 42:5;

“For behold, if Adam had put forth his hand immediately, and partaken of the tree of life, he would have lived forever, according to the word of God, having no space for repentance; yea, and also the word of God would have been void, and the great plan of salvation would have been frustrated.

For the Mormon, sin is condoned and the world couldn’t have survived if it weren’t for man’s intervention.

In Alma 43 we find that Alma couldn’t restrain himself and had to go out with his sons to preach the word of God.  I see no explicit details referring to why he felt so compelled to go.  Nothing from the Old Testament explaining why he had to point a particular teaching out to the Lamanites as Paul did in the New Testament on many occasions.

In 43:4 the Zoramites suddenly become Lamanites and descended upon the Nephites in the land of Jershon.  Suddenly, just two verses later the Amalekites, we’re told, were “more wicked” than the Lamanites and the chief of the Lamanites appointed chief captains over the army and they became Amalekites and Zoramites.  He did this “in order to preserve the hatred towards the Nephites”.  (vs. 7)

Alma 43:10 is quoting Jesus from John 4:24 (worshipping God in spirit and truth) while reminding us that the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi wouldn’t pick up arms to defend themselves because of an oath not to kill anyone.  This meant their protection and liberty to worship God as they please fell into the hands of the Nephites alone.

I’m not a world history teacher, but this sounds too much like an American ideological concept.

As the war raged on, the Nephites were soon led by a new commander.  He was none other than the 25 year old named Moroni.  This new commander put breastplates, arm guards and helmets upon his ferocious Nephite army which scared the naked Lamanites away.

Moroni sounded like he was a strategic thinker by sending his spies into the wilderness to watch the enemy and began searching out the desires of God through Alma.  In Alma 43:26 Moroni gathered all the people together to fight the Lamanites and defend their rights and liberties of their country.

They finally surrounded the Lamanites completely and when Moroni saw the terror on their faces, he commanded the Nephites to “stop shedding their blood”.

How do these descriptions point to the Lord?

After many attempts at trying to take anything seriously in chapter 44 I resigned myself to reality.  This chapter is so kindergarten-ish.  The visual I get while reading this is that Moroni is a spoiled child who didn’t get his own way and with hands on hips he gives the Lamanites a what for.  These “Lamanites” have gone from being Zoramites to Lamanites to Amalekites and Zoramites in the space of one chapter with no definitive reason why or explanation of how people may have migrated, etc.

Alma 44:12-16 is just about as ridiculous as you can get.  After one of Moroni’s soldiers scalped Zerahemnah,  Zerahemnah ran to the woods and the soldier then secured the scalp to the end of his sword which wasn’t in use in Mesoamerica at that time, and went with this to the soldiers of Zerahemna.  They promised to obey and not attack the Nephites anymore.

Apparently this angered Zerahemna so he gathered his remaining soldiers and got them angry as well.  When he realized they were all surrounded he surrendered to Moroni again.  This chapter also gives an exaggerated example of people in Mesoamerica at that time.  Alma 44:21 would be laughable if not for the consequences of believing their lies.

Alma 44:21; “Now the number of their dead was not numbered because of the greatness of the number; yea, the number of their dead was exceedingly great, both on the Nephites and on the Lamanites.

Alma chapter 45 has a few significant false teachings we’re going to touch upon.  Two of those are found in Alma 45:16.  The first thing is the claim that God said he would curse the ground they were walking upon.

According to Genesis 8:21 this is a lie.  God promised Noah He would never curse the ground ever again right after Noah came out of the ark.  The second item of interest is how they’ve quoted Revelation 14:6; “every nation, kindred and tongue”.  It’s supposed to be 73 BC.  John wrote the book of Revelation circa 90 AD.

The last thing needing attention is their story of Alma and Moses.  They report that Alma was translated in 45:18, just as Moses.  The problem here is that Moses died and was buried.  See Joshua 1:1-2.

Alma chapters 46 and 47 hold nothing of import except to say there were more wars and contentions along with the excessive use of the phrase “and it came to pass”.  This phrase shows up 24 times in chapter 47:1-36.  See our article about this phrase here

http://www.lifeafter.org/cametopass.asp

Chapters 48 tells us the Nephites fought for their liberties and the “cause of the Christans”, but keep in mind it’s now 72 BC.

How does this point people to God?

Chapter 49 lets us know the church flourished in 72 BC and many were baptized.

From here until chapter 51 the fighting, “contentions” and wars went back and forth between Moroni Amalickiah died.

Chapters 51-53 seem to have another obsession with the “and it came to pass” phrase, using it 46 times.  It looks like somebody was running out of ideas for their story line and needed filler words for their plot.  The entire book of Alma has 1,975 verses.  And it came to pass shows up 409 times in 401 verses.

Does this really sound like something that comes from a Holy God?  Where is the devotion to Him that we learn about in the Bible?  Where are the sacrifices needed for our sin?  All we get are phrases that were plagiarized from the New Testament and filler words.

In addition to the questionable phrases we’re also faced with the problem of Greek and Latin words making an appearance, along with the untimely use of swords, churches and Christians.  Alma 54:14 tells us that Moroni is going to close his “epistle” which in turn shows this simply cannot be from God.  The word “epistle” is Greek which means a formal letter, usually apostolic.  The next problem we see in the grammatical genre is found just a few verses later in 54:22.

The words “devil” and “hell” are used incorrectly for the year specified, that being 63 BC.  These two words are part of what is known as “anachronistic concepts”.  These concepts were not part of the Jewish ideology and not in use until the post-exilic Jewish period.

The word devil in pre-exilic times, show up in the Old Testament as a common noun, described as the being who opposes God.  See the Annotated Book of Mormon at 2Think here http://www.2think.org/hundredsheep/annotated/inep12.shtml#17

In 56:29 we’re treated to the fun phrase of “sally forth” when referring to the Nephites.  This phrase is from the Middle French originating in the sixteenth century.  Do you really believe this is the language that Nephites were privy to in 64 BC?  Notice that we’ve gone backwards in time…

The many battles, fearful armies, trading of prisoners and countless deaths all seem to meld into one another until we come upon a fantastic claim in Alma 56:56.  This verse claims that after 12 years of war not one single Nephite died.

God has performed and will continue to perform many miracles in life but does this sound reasonable to you?

Chapter 57 is interesting.  There is an exchanging back and forth of “epistles” in the opening statements of this section and in vs. 21 we see the author quoting from Matthew 9:29 (“according to your faith be it unto you”).  Further on in the chapter it mistakenly says

“And behold, we are again delivered out of the hands of our enemies. And blessed is the name of our God; for behold, it is he that has delivered us; yea, that has done this great thing for us.

Alma 58:12 poses the same unanswered questions as from before.  How did these people know about fighting for the cause of liberty and their religion?  The concept of humanitarian and personal freedom to worship wasn’t a universal part of the vocabulary for anyone before the early seventeenth century.  It was at that time the Puritans began their quest to worship God as they felt they needed and had a right to do.  (See Universal Human Rights in Theory and Practice by Jack Donnelly published by Cornell University Press.)

 Take notice in Alma 58:40 how they’ve quoted the apostle Paul from Galatians 5:1;

Alma 58:40; “But behold, they have received many wounds; nevertheless they stand fast in that liberty wherewith God has made them free

Galatians 5:1; “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Alma 59 and 60 holds more stories of fighting back and forth with only a few things worth noting.  Again, we see the use of swords and cimeters long before they were employed by anyone in Mesoamerica.  By now it was only 62 BC.

The last thing in this chapter worth mentioning is how they’ve used Jesus’ stern words to the Pharisees taken from Matthew 23:26.  This is solely a New Testament concept.

“Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

What I find interesting with using this phrase is how they also refer to Jesus.  It was Jesus who said these things and they’ve referred to Him as God.  Was this just an oversight or another sign of how Joseph Smith’s theology evolved over the years?

Chapter 62 sounds a lot like the story of when Jericho was taken down by Joshua and it’s worthy noting how they’ve taken the opportunity to insert as many times as they could “and it came to pass”.  While not a record it’s worth mentioning they used it 26 times in 25 verses.  (FWIW, the record is in 1 Nephi 16 where it appears 31 times in 30 verses.)

Alma closes with the announcement of Moroni’s death, then the strange blurb of how Hagoth built and ship and he along with many Nephites drowned while on their way to the land of Desolation.

After this strange event we’re told that Shiblon along with Corianton died.  Shiblon passed the books along to Helaman’s son also called Helaman and yet another war began.

Are you inspired yet?  The absolute depravity in this work should cause everyone who reads it to be very, very sad.  How lonely the Mormon people must be for the Lord and hungry for His truth.

John 7:37-39 says; “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.  38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.  39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Notice how Jesus said we can go to Him.  Only Jesus provides the refreshment we need and our hearts so long for.  He didn’t mention the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith or the LDS Church.  Also take special note of how the text tells us the Holy Ghost had not yet been given.  When John wrote his letter it was around 85 AD, yet there were many times the text of Alma is found to be quoting from him in 65 BC and the surrounding years.

Come alongside us and pray for the Mormon people won’t you?  We’ve seen so much fruit in what God is doing with setting the captives free!  Ask your Mormon friends and loved ones about the questions we’ve brought up here and see what they think.

Our next study is on Helaman so stay tuned!

With Love in Christ; Michelle Grim

December 20 – Hebrews 1:3; “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”

_____

Today we see that Jesus is the glory and the exact image of God and now sits down on His right hand, understanding this is a place of honor that He occupies.

Can you just imagine?  Think for a moment about this scenario!

The image He shines forth is neither a replica nor a reflection; it’s the exact image because Jesus is God.

He is the sovereign God of all, Ruler, King, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Almighty God.

It is by and through Him that God created everything.

Psalm 2:6-7, Matt. 28:18, John 5:22, Isaiah 40:28, Romans 1:20, Job 42:2, Matthew 19:26, Daniel 4:35, Isaiah 44:24, Psalm 147:5…

This Almighty God we worship purged our sins Himself because He wanted to.  His love is so great He chose to do this for us.  The sinless babe in the manger…

The LDS’s understanding and twisting of this verse has nothing to do with truth.

_____

“Seldom, in words as few, and with logic as persuasive, does Holy Writ set forth so clearly the nature and kind of Being that God is…Now Paul is saying that the resurrected Christ is in the express image of his Father’s person, which is to say that the Father also has a body of flesh and bones; or, as latter-day revelation—equally blunt, equally succinct, equally plain—says simply: “The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit.” (D. & C. 130:22.).”  Bruce R. December 19 – Mark 3:35; “For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.”

_____

We see here the simplicity of Jesus’ words.  If you love and obey Him you are His brother and sister.  The LDS Church teaches that their heavenly Father and heavenly Mother spiritually created all of us (Jesus and Lucifer included) through a sexual union; thereby making everyone literal brothers and sisters.

_____

“Thus it is shown that prior to the placing of man upon the earth, how long before we do not know, Christ and Satan, together with the hosts of the spirit-children of God, existed as intelligent individuals, possessing power and opportunity to choose the course they would pursue and the leaders whom they would follow and obey. In that great concourse of spirit-intelligences, the Father’s plan, whereby His children would be advanced to their second estate, was submitted and doubtless discussed. The opportunity so placed within the reach of the spirits who were to be privileged to take bodies upon the earth was so transcendently glorious that those heavenly multitudes burst forth into song and shouted for joy.”  James E. Talmage, Jesus the Christ, pg. 8.

John 8:32; “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

If you’re a Mormon and don’t understand the Church is run by a pantheon of false teachers and prophets, I am praying their latest stunt will open your eyes to the wolf in sheep’s clothing that’s tricking each and every member of the LDS Church.

If I could scream from the rooftop of Brigham Young’s house or the center of Temple Square, this would be the time I would do it.

In June of 1978 I was sitting on my grandmother’s front porch with tears streaming down my teenaged face.  I had just finished reading the front page of the Saturday evening edition of the Ogden Standard Examiner.  The headlines screamed of the jaw dropping revelation proclaimed by Spencer W. Kimball.

“Blacks to Receive Priesthood”

My heart sank reading the headlines while wondering how I was ever going to know how to please this god I worshipped.  I had done nothing differently to earn his good favor and had nothing of import to offer the god that sat in an exalted position from his headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah.

As I’ve shared before, this was the second time in my short lived life I was living with a doctrinal change of “Elohim”.

My great-grandfather was born into LDS Church sanctioned polygamy back in the late nineteenth century.  While growing up, I had visited him many times and recalled his stories of living with his mother and her four sister wives.  My memory went back to him on that summer evening in ’78 and wondered what he would’ve thought of the latest revelation from the prophet.

The distance I had already felt between “Heavenly Father” and I became an ocean of mistrust towards him, filled with questions no one around me could or would ever answer.  My heart was broken as I realized I would never fit in with my heritage and culture that permeated every aspect of living in Utah.

My mother’s family came from England.  Everyone was very “white and delightsome”.

My father’s side of the family originally came from Wales.  Some people referred to us as “black-Welsh”, all of us having black curly hair, olive skin and dark eyes.  I had been taught I was “just dark enough to be dangerous” on many occasions.

While sitting through years of Sacrament Meetings, MIA, Seminary and Primary lessons, the idea of me siding against Jesus in the pre-existence was embedded deep into my psyche by the time Kimball announced his revelation from the Mormon god.

My shame ran deep each time I looked in the mirror as my coloring became a personal reminder to me that I was less than desirable in the eyes of Christ.  Almost twenty years would pass before I realized those thoughts were a sin from the pit of hell.

The Mormon Church has bragged the Book of Mormon is “the most correct book on the face of the earth”.  Those words were uttered for the first time by none other than Joseph Smith himself on Sunday, October 28, 1841.

I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.

However, when we look beneath the veneer, we see truth.  The Book of Mormon has had 3,913 grammatical changes made to it since its inception.  As of this week you can add two more to that total in a roundabout way.

This time the Book of Mormon is trying to fall in line with what is socially and politically acceptable regarding the race issue.  They did this with the Book of Mormon back in 1981 with 2 Nephi 30:6.

 Before 1981

“And then shall they rejoice; for they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of God; and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a white and delightsome people.

After 1981

And then shall they rejoice; for they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of God; and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a pure and a delightsome people.

Sometimes white can mean pure, but when has pure ever meant white?  This time around the Church is changing the racial overtones in its chapter headings of the online edition to the Book of Mormon.  Below are the two items in question and the changes they’ve made.

2 Nephi, Chapter 5

Before the Change

Because of their unbelief, the Lamanites are cursed, receive a skin of blackness, and become a scourge unto the Nephites.

After the change

Because of their unbelief, the Lamanites are cut off from the presence of the Lord, are cursed, and become a scourge unto the Nephites.

 Mormon, Chapter 5

Before the change

The Lamanites shall be a dark, filthy, and loathsome people.

After the change

Because of their unbelief, the Lamanites will be scattered, and the Spirit will cease to strive with them.

Don’t let the leadership of the Church fool you when they say the changes have nothing to do with race or the changes are not significant.  These are huge changes.  They’re trying to cover u p their racist ways in the eyes of the unknowing, yet the overall theme still carries the prejudice teachings of the Mormon god.

Little by little the LDS Church is changing to become more palatable to its members and the general public.  If they’d just come out and repent of the heretical teachings and denounce their extra-biblical “canon”, then perhaps we’d believe them when they say something isn’t “significant”.

As it is today, their words are as clanging symbols and a ship carried about listlessly by the winds.

The main text in the Book of Mormon hasn’t changed and neither has the Pearl of Great Price, both of which are considered sacred canon.  Why then, do they feel the need to change these two things?  What’s the next thing that needs changing?

We pray daily for the Mormon people and hope they will begin to question why their leaders would go about confusing its members.  I am convinced there are thousands of Mormons who have the same doubts and misgivings about their beloved heritage.

For more information about the changes and remarks made by Church authorities see the article in the Salt Lake Tribune.

December 18 – Romans 1:16; “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

_____

In order to understand any scripture we need to look at the entire thing in context and remember that we are never at liberty to change it for what we think it should say.  In today’s Mormon example, we see that Brigham Young decided to do just that; fit it according to his own righteousness.  He proves by his own words that he was an un-teachable person and felt he had enough authority to shamelessly invoke his theory.  When people do this it takes away the meaning of the message and puts the focus on something else entirely.

Originally this verse is meant to give glory to Jesus and to proclaim that Paul was not ashamed of Christ’s gospel or God’s instruction to him.  It is only through God’s power the gospel works, otherwise as Matthew Henry stated, “it is but dead letters.”  Henry went on to say “The revelation of the gospel is the revelation of the arm of the Lord (Is. 53:1).”

If it is only through God’s power we are saved, what is Brigham Young so afraid of?

_____

“It is the power of God unto salvation to all who believe and obey it. The words “obey it,” I have added to the text as it is given to us by King James’s translators. To say it is the power of God unto salvation to them that believe, and that be the end of it, then the people could not be saved by it. It is quite possible some may argue the point as it is held out in the New Testament reading, and in their own estimation justly. But to me one argument is sufficient to lay the matter at rest in my mind—a person who disobeys the Gospel, and operates against it, may not only believe it, but know it to be true. Therefore I read the Scripture thus—“This Gospel that we preach is the power of God unto salvation to all who believe and obey it.”  Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, 26 vols. 2: 1 – 2.

December 16 – Isaiah 53:5, 11; “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.”

_____

These are only two of the 48 prophecies in this chapter of Isaiah.  He lived about 700 years before Christ. Ask the Mormon why they believe Jesus paid the price for their sin in the Garden of Gethsemane.

The Hebrew word for wounded is: chalal.  It means bore, pierced. Our crooked nature needed more than our obligatory sacrifices could atone for, so He willingly hung there for us.  Yet the crucifixion was nothing in pain compared to the sins He had to carry for us.

Also share Zechariah 12:10 with them.  It says He was pierced.

I realize going over the simplistic part of the gospel may seem redundant for a Christian; however for the Mormon if they are asked the same question repeatedly they will actually begin to think about it.  Remember they need to be taught to take responsibility for their own thinking, just like you taught your toddler.

You won’t find commentaries or speeches about the sufferings of Jesus in the Mormon writings.  When they refer to the crucifixion they use the term “atonement” and it is coupled with what they think happened here in the Americas at the time He died and how much the early saints of Mormonism have suffered.  Also notice that they say the darkness lasted three days, in the Bible it lasted three hours.

In addition to all that, when Jesus was crucified people who had been dead in their graves came up out of them.  He came to bring life, not death!  Nowhere in the Bible does it say there was great groaning and howling of the people.  From the biblical accounts the only thing destroyed was the temple and that is something to praise God for!  Why was there a great destruction in Mesoamerica if Jesus was crucified in Israel?

_____

“And it came to pass that it did last for the space of three days that there was no light seen; and there was great mourning and howling and weeping among all the people continually; yea, great were the groanings of the people, because of the darkness and the great destruction which had come upon them.”  3 Nephi 8:23.

Inverted Stained Glass Pentagrams

Our objective in this article is to show a comparison between what the Bible says regarding these symbols and what Mormonism says about them.

Figure 1  – Close up of stained glass inverted pentagram on Nauvoo temple.

Figure 2 (right)Star windows accent temple’s upper floor” – “Yearning is fulfilled: Temple is back”, Church News, John L. Hart, May 4, 2002

http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/41760/Yearning-is-fulfilled-Temple-is-back.html

Mormon Church:

“Jesus Christ is called the “bright and morning star” (Rev 22:16). The starstones on the Nauvoo Temple, some with their unique lengthened ray, are a fitting symbol of Jesus Christ as the morning star. Additionally, the circle is a symbol of eternity and it is wholly fitting that the symbol of Jesus Christ in the circular windows (five-pointed stars) was framed by a circle.” – Lisle Brown (1)

http://users.marshall.edu/~brown/nauvoo/nt-parent.html

Truth:

The inverted pentagram is a sign of evil.  One point down, two points up is a sign calling to evoke all evil earthly powers to come forth.  It is a representation of the great Goat of the witches Sabbath.  What concerns us here is what other organizations think of the pentagram and the association the Church has with those groups.

From an excerpt in “The Secret Teachings of All Ages” this is what Masonic author Manly Hall had to say about the pentagram;

In symbolism, an inverted figure always signifies a perverted power…The star with two points upward is also called the “Goat of Mendes,” because the inverted star is the same shape as a goat’s head. When the upright star turns and the upper point falls to the bottom, it signifies the fall of the Morning Star.

http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/bb/book_eight06.htm

A circle around a pentagram indicates their power is enhanced.  Witches use upright pentagrams while Satanists use the inverted pentagram.

http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/False%20Religions/Wicca%20&%20Witchcraft/pentagram.htm

For the sake of argument, let’s say the inverted pentagram wasn’t bad when the Nauvoo Temple was originally built.

Why did they rebuild the temple in Nauvoo with the inverted pentagram when it was clearly a sign of evil in the twenty-first century?

And let’s say God wanted His people to start building temples again because the veil that was rent in two in the Jewish temple was all for naught.

 What about the personified moonstones?

What about the personified sunstones?

What about the Masonic square and compass used over the angel Moroni weather-vane?

Why were the stone engravings, beehive, all-seeing eye and hand clasps placed on the Salt Lake Temple when God is very clear in the Bible about not participating in these things?

There are a lot of “ifs” in this line of thinking.  A lot of truths would have to be changed if the LDS Temples are truly from God.

Acts 7:37-43 clearly points out that God does not dwell in temples made by unclean hands and reminded them that because of Israel’s sin He indeed carried them out when they bowed to worship stars.

 Moon stones

Figures 3 & 4 – Personified moonstones on outside of Nauvoo Temple

Figure 5 – Moonstones on outside of Salt Lake Temple

Mormon Church:

Located directly above the earthstones, the moon is depicted in its various phases around the temple. The changing moon can represent the stages of human progression from birth to resurrection or represent the patron’s journey from darkness to light.

http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/saltlake

One of the most prominent features of the pilasters were the base-stones. The base-stones included a deeply carved relief crescent moon facing downward. Although William W. Phelps stated that the moonstones were “new moons” (Lundwall, Temples of the Most High, p. 47), they were clearly crescent moons. Each moon also had a carved face in profile. The personification of the moonstones was perhaps meant to also represent those who dwell in the Terrestrial Kingdom, because the moon represents the glory of that kingdom on the Vision (D&C 76:71, 78).” – Lisle Brown

http://users.marshall.edu/~brown/nauvoo/symbols.html

A symbol can function in one set of relationships and mean one thing.  In another set of relationships, it can have another meaning.  For example, the symbol of the moon, which repeatedly appears on the temple, was usually associated during Renaissance and Counterreformation Catholicism with the Virgin Mary.”  Pg. 8

http://byustudies.byu.edu/PDFLibrary/36.4Oman%20be179c67-49fc-4bb6-bf21-2ef39ec72019.pdf

Truth:

Why does the temple have anything on it that is associated with any other church or movement?  Why would they want something on their temple that was also on churches in the “Counterreformation Catholicism”?

The LDS Church has emphatically stressed all churches but their own are the whores of Babylon and yes, that includes the Protestants. 1 Nephi 14:10, Mormon Doctrine, pg. 609, Journal of Discourses 6:167, History of the Church 5:387.

The Wiccans idolize the moon and see it as a pagan goddess.

For the Muslim, the symbol of their god is the moon called Allah.

http://www.saintsalive.com/eds-blog/islam-and-the-gods-of-the-seventh-century

For the pagan in ancient and modern times, Diana is the goddess of “light” and “fertility”, represented in the moon and worshipped in groves of trees. Hmmm…groves of trees, sex, temples, and false gods – it all sounds so familiar…

The phrase used by the LDS Church in the first description above should be an eye-opener for the Mormon people.  Why are these occult symbols a representation of the Mormon’s life and  where is the cross????

John 3:19-20; “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

Holiness to the Lord Inscriptions

“Inscriptions — Just above the windows on the eastern center tower is the inscription “Holiness to the Lord” (Exodus 28:36). This is inscribed somewhere on all temples.http://www.mormontimes.com/article/11331/Symbolism-can-be-seen-in-architecture-of-SL-Temple

“The House of the Lord” identifies the Temple as “bethel,” or the Lord’s House – the place upon the earth, which is especially built and dedicated to him, where me may now come and “lay his head” (Matt 8:20).

NAUVOO TEMPLE EXTERIOR SYMBOLISM, By Lisle Brown

http://users.marshall.edu/~brown/nauvoo/symbols.html

 Truth:

How can you honestly believe the Lord will return to that one specific place at His return?  What about Jerusalem?  The true Zion is in Jerusalem, not Utah, not Nauvoo, and certainly not Independence, Missouri.  America has nothing to do with Zion.  Contrary to Joseph Smith’s teachings, Christianity is not an American made institution.  See Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 188.

Let’s take things in context and look at the passage in Matthew mentioned above.

Matthew 8:18-22; “Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.  19 And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.  20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.  21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.  22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

It’s commendable when we take a verse and apply it to our lives – but not always.  Two of my favorite verses are Jude 1:24-25.  I’m not however, applying those verses to justify doing something that doesn’t line up with the rest of what God’s word says.  The passage in Matthew is referring to a couple of disciples who were eager to bid the Lord’s direction, but one of them had a misplaced zeal.

Does the Lord have a place to rest His head in your life?  The Bible tells us that He resides not in buildings of stone made of hands; instead He resides inside your heart.  John 14:17, 23.  Can He come to tarry there with you or are you busily going about with what you’ve been told by others to do?

The irony of using this passage shouldn’t be overlooked.  Jesus told us to let the dead bury the dead!  Why has the Church built a temple to talk to the dead?  Wouldn’t that mean they’re spiritually dead?

And what about the inscription “Holiness to the Lord” on the temples?

Are the workers inside the Mormon temple wearing the proper clothing that God instructed the priests to wear?  God instructed a small gold plate with this inscription to be affixed on the forehead of Aaron.

Are the Mormon temple workers affixing this to their foreheads?

Exodus 28:36; “And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

 Sun stones

Figures 8, 9, and 10:  Close up of sunstone on Nauvoo Temple, sunstones with inverted stained glass pentagrams on Nauvoo temple – 3rd picture is a closer look of sunstone near top of Nauvoo Temple.

Figure 11:  Sunstone on Salt Lake Temple

Mormon Church:

Nauvoo Temple, pg. 87; “At the base of each pilaster was a crescent moon carved in a giant stone, while fifty feet above it a stone of equal size crowned the pilaster. This was the sun stone, with its human face carved in the large stone, with rays of light extending from the full face to the edge of the stone. This was surmounted by two hands holding two trumpets. These sun and moon stones were typical of the different degrees of glory that await the human family after the resurrection.” – E. Cecil McGavin

Sunstones.  Located directly about the moonstones, the sunstones depict the sun—a symbol of the glory of the celestial kingdom.”  http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/saltlake

Church News, “Original sunstones part of America’s religious history”, May 4, 2002, “President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a counselor in the First Presidency…said they “were undoubtedly inspired by Paul’s writing in 1 Corinthians 15:40-42 “which compared the glory of the heavenly kingdoms to that of the sun, the moon and the stars.” – Greg Hill

http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/41771/Original-sunstones-part-of-Americas-religious-history.html

 Truth:

Just looking at the face of this sunstone character is bothersome.  Solar deities can be found in many cultures throughout history and can be male or female.  In Greek and Roman mythology, Apollo was a god of light and sun.  Ra of Heliopolis (Horus or Anu-Re to the Egyptians) is another example and considered to be the creator of everything.  These symbols are nothing more than a form of Ba’al worship.

Ba’al worship is the adoration or worship of things in nature created by God.  The worshipping of creation typically revolved around the cycle of crops or raising livestock or it could include the worship of water.  It also included the worshipping of stars, the moon, planets and sun.  The Israelites are thought to have adopted Ba’al worship through the Canaanites.

http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=2&letter=B

Neo-paganism (modern form of witchcraft) is replete with the use of sun and/or moon gods with faces.  It has so infiltrated our society and culture today that we can see these sun faces everywhere in home and yard décor.  Many people are oblivious to the spiritual implications of having these idols in their homes.

I keep saying one of the best bible studies that opened my eyes to the historical aspects of the Old Testament was the book of Jeremiah (See Jer. 42:15-16).  It also cleared the fog of confusion for me that I kept having with the Book of Mormon.  Just about everything God commanded the Israelites not to do is found as righteous behavior in the Book of Mormon.  LDS temples aren’t coy about whom the attendees are worshipping.  God destroyed most of the Israelites for worshipping the same things depicted on these temples.

In addition to all that, there is the sun god Re whom the Egyptians worship.  The Egyptians believed Re, also known as Horus-Re, died and was resurrected or reborn each and every day.  Egyptians personified this sun god through drawings of him sitting on a boat sailing through the sky.

In the 1913 publication of Spalding’s booklet, “Joseph Smith, Jr., as a Translator”, we find Egyptologist Dr. Samuel Mercer’s findings.  According to Dr. Mercer along with ten other Egyptologists, the drawing in Facsimile 2, Figure 3 in the Book of Abraham is the Egyptian sun god Horus.

Yet, Joseph Smith was adamant this pictorial is “God sitting upon his throne”.  We can only be left to conclude the god of Mormonism is Horus, not the God of the Bible.

Above drawing is from the Book of Abraham Facsimile 2, Figure 3

2 Kings 17:16; “And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.

 Beehive

Figure 14 & 15 – Top Row: doors to Salt Lake Temple.   Second Row: Close up of beehive in center of doors to Salt Lake Temple

Mormon Church:

Utah’s nickname is the Beehive State and their flag proudly bears the symbol of the beehive as well.  It’s difficult to determine where the state ends and religion begins, while another example of this can be found in the state motto which is “Industry”.

http://www.50states.com/nickname.htm

  http://www.50states.com/flag/utflag.htm

http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/Utah/Motto_Utah.html

The LDS Young Woman’s group (12-13 y/o) is named the “Beehives”, so this theme permeates everything around the Mormon people.

A number of leaders compared the honey bee with Church workers. In October 1898 general conference, President Joseph F. Smith said, “This country, in the beginning, was called Deseret — the honey bee — signifying industry; Utah, in the early days, was likened to the hive of bees… Everyone should be increasing, improving, and advancing in some way, and accomplishing something for his or her good and for the good of the whole.”

http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/38289/The-beehive-image.html

Mormon author E. Cecil McGavin writes; “Masons who visit the Temple Block in Salt Lake City are impressed by what they call the Masonic emblems displayed on the outside of the Mormon Temple. “Yes, the ‘Masonic emblems’ are displayed on the walls of the Temple—the sun, moon and stars, ‘Holiness to the Lord,’ the two right hands clasped in fellowship, the All-seeing eye, Alpha and Omega, and the beehive. Masonic writers tell us that the Mormon Temple ritual and their own are slightly similar in some respects.”

Let’s be honest, they’re more than slightly similar…the sad thing is that the Church refuses to apologize…

“Without any apologies we frankly admit that there may be some truth in these statements.”  (Mormonism and Masonry, Introduction, by E. Cecil McGavin, Bookcraft, 1956)

He further went on to say

“…the lessons Masons should draw from the beehive is that the grand arch of the heavens, reaching from horizon (the form of which resembles the old fashioned straw hive) has a spiritual queen, the spirit of the universe; and that periodically a new principle is born as the beehive ripens and brings to maturity a new queen bee with her retinue of attendants.”  (Page 62)

http://www.shields-research.org/General/Palmyra_Project/E_Cecil_McGavin/Mormonism_and_Masonry/Mormonism_Masonry.htm

 Truth:

The last example above sounds a lot like the teaching of eternal progression.  New lessons from their god are occasionally introduced as man progresses along in life.  This concept allows the Mormon god to change church doctrines with whatever is politically correct in society at the time, i.e. the race issue, polygamy, temple ordinances, et al.

I’d love to take a survey to find out how many members of the Church know the spiritual significance of the symbols plastered on their temples.  Experience has taught me very few of them do.  I can assure you my mother knows nothing of the queen bee on the temple being a symbol for the spirit of the universe.

According to the book “The Craft and its Symbols” by Allen E. Roberts, the beehive is a Masonic emblem of Industry with generative powers.

For the Egyptians, bees were the tears of the sun god Ra.  Honey was a symbol of resurrection and protection against evil spirits.

In Greek mythology the sun god Apollo reigned alongside his priestess wife Pythia who was called the Delphic Bee.

http://www.thebeegoddess.com

Greece also believed the bee was a priestly creature.  The names of Eleusis and Ephesus were called Melissae or “bees” which is a reference to the virginity of worker bees.  These served at the Greek festivals in honor of Demeter, the Queen Bee.  It’s also considered a symbol of the soul which is influenced by the sun and immortality.

The truth is that the bee and beehive has been a symbol of idol worship and sex in many cultures throughout history.  We’ve only listed a few examples, but you can find it’s prevalent within the Hindu, African and Mediterranean cultures as well.  The idolization of this symbol is full of sexual overtones.

The Lord has been very explicit about His dislike for worshipping creatures and calling them God.  The beehive in the center of the door handle on the Salt Lake Temple is another example of how Mormonism has deep ties in Masonry.

The irony couldn’t be richer with this one.  The Book of Mormon tells its readers not to participate with anything that has secret combinations, yet their temples have been built with the imagery of Masonic symbols.  The very first thing you must touch on the temple is a Masonic symbol that literally opens the door to the occult.

Psalm 19:9-10; “The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

1 Corinthians 10:20-21; “But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.  21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

 Horus, the All-Seeing Eye

Figure 16 – Horus – The All Seeing Eye on Salt Lake Temple

Mormon Church:

Apparently the Nauvoo Temple was to include the depiction of the all-seeing eye in the center of the top portion of the large rounded windows. Whether this was done or not cannot be determined from photographic evidence.  Brigham Young called this symbol “the all-searching eye of the Great Jehovah” (J.D. 2:32).

http://users.marshall.edu/~brown/nauvoo/nt-parent.html

Located atop each of the center towers of the temple is the all-seeing eye of God, which represents God’s ability to see all things.”  http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/saltlake

Exterior Symbolism of the Salt Lake Temple:  Reflecting the Faith that Called the Place into Being

BYU Studies, Richard G. Oman, Art and Architecture, Temple, Journal 36:4;

Spiritual Bearings.  The temple is the “meeting point of the three cosmic regions”: heaven, earth, and the abode of the dead.”  Page 27

Pg. 48-50 “This symbol reminded the Saints that the eye of the Lord was upon them and that all that they did should be in accordance with the will of the Lord.  John Taylor noted it “penetrates and enabled to weigh the actions and motives of the children of men.

Mr. Oman goes on to say;

Page 51 – “…the all-seeing eyes on the temple differ from all the rest…those on the Salt Lake Temple are depicted looking out from beneath a pleated veil.  Veils are used to separate the sacred from the profane, the spiritual from the carnal, truth from confusion, the Lord from mankind.  The veil separating man and the Lord is removed only on rare occasions of great faith and obedience…” [emphasis mine]

http://byustudies.byu.edu/showTitle.aspx?title=6435

Truth:

The LDS Church’s obsession with Egyptian gods is obvious to all by now.  The All Seeing Eye is from the false god Horus.  It is supposedly the left eye of the “moon” or “sound eye” of Horus, who is the son of Isis (mother goddess of nature and magic) and Osiris (god of the underworld).  The full story of how their son Horus came into being is too sexually graphic for this website, but you can find the info anywhere on the net.  The point to this entry should be obvious.

Why does the Mormon temple have this symbol on their “sacred” place of worship?

The Mormons aren’t the only ones that utilize the All-Seeing Eye of Horus on their temples.  The Masonic Lodge believes it is the watchful providence of God.  As you can see from the example below, they’re no closer to the truth than the Mormons are.  The best place to get references and information on the Masonic Lodge is from Ed Decker at Saints Alive.

The Encyclopedia of Freemasonry says this about the All-Seeing Eye; “…the Egyptians represented Osiris, their chief deity, by the symbol of an open aye, and placed this hieroglyphic of him in all their Temples…The All-Seeing Eye may then be considered as a symbol of God manifested in his omnipresence—…”The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding (or, as in the Revised Version, keeping watch upon) the evil and the good.” It is a symbol of the Omnipresent Deity.

Here is what the One True God of the Bible has to say about these false gods –

Psalm 135:15-18; “The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.  16 They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not; 17 They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.  18 They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them.

 Masonic Handclasp

Figure 17 – Hand Clasp on Salt Lake Temple

Mormon Church:

“Handclasp.  Each of the center towers features a pair of clasped right hands identified as the “right hands of fellowship” cited in Galatians 2:9. In Jeremiah 31:32, the Lord uses the handclasp to denote covenant making—an act at the very heart of temple worship.”  http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/saltlake

“…a pair of clasped hands, which represent the hand of fellowship and the unity of the Saints.  But the clasped hands seem to have additional meanings, for surrounding the hands is an oval with rays emanating outward.  The usual meaning of an aureole of light is divine sanctification or divine presence.”  Page 48

 http://byustudies.byu.edu/PDFLibrary/36.4Oman%20be179c67-49fc-4bb6-bf21-2ef39ec72019.pdf

““I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”  Immediately beneath this inscription in the lower window arch of the centre tower appears in relief the emblem of the clasped hands, betokening the bond of brotherhood and the free offering of the right hand of fellowship.

House of the Lord, James Talmage, pg. 148-151

 Truth:

The secret handshakes in the Mormon Church are nothing more than their own rendition of the Masonic handshakes.  They are exactly the same and performed in a ceremonial ritual in the endowment ceremony that makes the adherent believe they can’t be saved without knowing the secret.  It’s ungodly behavior.

When using the Bible as your defense you need to use it in context.  According to the Holman Bible Dictionary, fellowship means “the bond of common purpose and devotion that binds Christians together and to Christ”.  The Mormons and Masons alike can’t possibly claim the Apostle Paul was referring to secret handshakes in the reference above.

The Jesus of the Bible is not the Jesus of Mormonism and the god of Masonry is Jahbulon, not Jesus.  The people (Masons) taking the oath with that handshake aren’t necessarily even claiming to be Christians so why are they using the Bible and this terminology?

Again, the Mormons are trying to build an entire theological precept upon one verse from the Bible and in so doing have proven themselves to be false teachers.

As you are instructed, he who has hitherto answered for you, will do so at this time.”

Jeremiah 1:16; “And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

 Earth stones

Figure 18 – Earth Stone on Salt Lake Temple

Mormon Church:

Earthstones.  The earthstones, located at the base of each buttress, represent the earth—the “footstool of God.” Although the earth is currently a telestial kingdom, it will transition to a terrestrial kingdom at the coming of the Millennium; and at the end of one thousand years, it is destined to become a celestial kingdom.

http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/saltlake

Earth stones — These are found just above the basement of the temple and at the floor of each buttress. The 36 stones are believed to symbolize the spreading of the gospel throughout the world, because they represent different portions of the globe. They also represent the telestial kingdom, the lowest of the three degrees of heavenly glory in LDS beliefs.

Lynn Arave, November 27, 2008
http://www.mormontimes.com/article/11331/Symbolism-can-be-seen-in-architecture-of-SL-Temple

Truth:

Where do I begin…sigh…since when does something used by witches symbolize the spreading of the gospel?

Using the cross as a symbol of Christianity wasn’t pulled out of some obscure verse that goes unread by most.  Jesus dying on a cross was foretold in Deuteronomy and everyone knows of it.  If you’re a Christian wouldn’t you use the cross as a symbol of your faith instead of something from the occult?

Wiccans use nature and manmade things from the earth as symbols of reverence and worship for their gods.  Cycles of the earth, seasons, moons, stars, planets and the sun are all part of deities they believe hold power and mysticism.  Gods (sun and wildlife) and goddesses (earth and the moon) make up the pantheon of deities witches might worship.

The placement of the witch’s tools in ceremonial worship is important in order to draw and utilize their magic.  Numbers, proper timing and placement of the elements they use are all essential in the witch’s rituals.  A temple for a witch could be in a room, building, a grove of trees, etc.

The pattern of where the stones were placed on the temple is no different than what witches do when making their own temples.

For example, the Salt Lake Temple has 50 moonstones.  They patterned the number of stones and stars upon the lunar cycle in the year they built the temple – 1878.

From the bottom up, the earth stones were placed first, then the moon stones, sun stones, cloud stones, star stones, Big Dipper, Handclasp, All-Seeing Eye, and then Moroni.  Each has been placed in a certain position for a particular reason with meticulous detail.

The point to all this?  The only time anything is referenced to an “earth stone” or “moon stone” is in neo-pagan religions such as Wicca.  Never, ever will you see any type of thing like this in the Bible.

Between my husband, me and our kids, we’ve traveled and lived just about everywhere in the world, and everywhere we’ve been the cross is the only symbol used in true Christianity.  The symbols used on the temple speak volumes about the god you worship and your integrity.

Why does the Church continue to lie to people?  Yes, it’s personal for me; my entire family in Utah is being led down a road that doesn’t lead to Jesus.  It’s shocking to say the least of it.  My kids have lived without the benefit of having grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins to love on them and share their lives.  And it’s all because of what’s represented on the exterior walls of a building in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.

The scriptures below are just a few of the things God tells us what we should and shouldn’t be doing.  It’s amazing how the Mormon teachings are the exact opposite of what God says.

Isaiah 66:1; “Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

Remember in the NT Jesus and the apostles Paul and Peter told us that His Holy Spirit would reside inside of us and believers are the temple of God.  John 14:16-18, 23; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19.

Matthew 5:34-35; “But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: 35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

1 Peter 2:5; “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 10:8-12; “Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;  9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.  10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.

Jeremiah 8:2; “And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.

Saturn stones

Figure 19 – Saturn Stones on Salt Lake Temple

“FYI: For Your Info”, New Era, April 1993, pgs. 34-37; “Saturn Stones are located directly below the parapet on each side of the six towers. They represent Kolob, the dwelling place of God.”  http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hideNav=1&locale=0&sourceId=dffdc1de5cfeb010VgnVCM1000004d82620a____&vgnextoid=024644f8f206c010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD

Ensign, January 1978, pg. 80; “Overwhelmed by the building itself, people may not realize how extensive the ornamentation is, each of which, commented President George A. Smith, “conveys a moral lesson, and all point to the celestial world…There are fifty Earth Stones weighing 3 1/2 tons apiece, fifty moon stones, several Saturns, numerous sunstones, sixty-eight star stones… Brother Nibley continues, “The temple itself is a reminder that none can receive the highest blessings without entering its portals. … Here all time and space come together; the barriers vanish between this world and the next; between past, present, and future. What is bound here is bound beyond, and only here can the gates be opened to release the dead who are awaiting the saving ordinances.”” – The Salt Lake Temple

 Truth:

It’s been said that Saturn is the darkest symbol to use in all of the mystic religions.  Just when you thought it couldn’t get any darker spiritually speaking, you find out you’re wrong.

For the Romans, he was known as the god of agriculture, time, and celebration. He was so important in Roman mythology that both a day (Saturday) and a planet were named in his honor.  In English his name means serious and gloomy.

http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/roman/saturn.htm

In Greek mythology Saturn is known as “Father Time” or Cronus, thus our English term chronology.  Cronus was depicted with a sickle which he used to castrate his father Uranus.  From Hesiod’s Theogony, Cronus supposedly ate his children when they were born to prevent them from taking power from him someday.

The symbol of Saturn even shows up in the 19th degree of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry where oaths are taken to the god of Masonry as they take upon themselves the “priesthood” of the Masonic Lodge.  While going through this particular ritual, a robe is worn with a crimson sash across the breast representing the twelve stars of the Zodiac and the twelve tribes amongst other symbolic gestures.  (Question of Freemasonry, pg. 17, Ed Decker)

In the Question of Freemasonry, Ed went on to further point out how the rituals of the Lodge portraying the Zodiac as holding the priesthood is a pathetic attempt to strip the only person who holds the priesthood of His powers – and yes, this would mean Jesus Christ!

Question:  why is the Mormon Church participating in anything that has to do with the Zodiac (Saturn stones) and also portraying signs of Masonic influence on their temples if the Masons believe this stuff?

While there is no reference to the Egyptians using astrology until the middle or late period of classical history, it has been shown by Egyptologist Richard Parker that Saturn was also known as Heru, bull of the sky. (Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago).

Saturn and Ba’al worship at Carthage – “Classical sources relate how the Carthaginians burned their children as offerings to Ba’al Hammon. See Moloch for a discussion of these traditions and conflicting thoughts on the matter. From the attributes of his Roman form, African Saturn, it is possible to conclude that Hammon was a fertility god.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ba’al

http://one-evil.org/entities_gods/god_Moloch.htm

At times Saturn was known as the god of death and represented in the sun at its lowest part of the winter solstice.

Saturn, Seb, Cronos (Kronus), Repa, Remphan, Sakkuth, Kaiwan, Kiyyun, and Chiun are just different names from different cultures for the same false god.  (See Holman Bible Dictionary under Chiun)  God told the Israelites to stop worshipping this false god in Amos 5:26.

He was also represented by many different forms which include an “Oriental talisman”, the sun and a solar disk, and also a man with a head of a hawk, beetle or ram.  He’s additionally been depicted as a phoenix, a heron, a serpent, a bull, cat, lion…

Another question for the Mormons:

Why do you have a baptismal font for dead works and why is the baptismal font sitting atop twelve bulls?  If Saturn is known as Heru, bull of the sky, why is such a thing in your temples today along with the Saturn stones?

According to LDS doctrine the carved bulls represent the twelve tribes of Israel and the baptismal font is patterned after the molten sea in the original temples.  The baptismal font looks like a solar disk!

The truth is that the molten sea in the Old Testament era temple was actually filled with water as a place for the priests to wash blood off themselves after sacrificing animals to God.  And Solomon made the bulls to show the Israelites their only use was as a post instead of worship as they’d done under Aaron’s direction.  See my article on temple furniture and the use of this here http://www.lifeafter.org/temple.asp

Now if you’re not engaged in animal sacrifices and God already told us not to have anything to do with the dead, why would you want to participate in this type of thing?

Regardless of what the Church says, God does not reside on Kolob which is a make believe word from the mind of Joseph Smith.  And why would you use Saturn as a symbol of God’s residence when it’s been used all throughout the history of man to denote a false god?

The Holman Bible Dictionary says the following about heaven; “As God’s dwelling place, heaven is not a divine haven where God can isolate Himself from earth. It is the divine workplace, where He sends blessings to His people (Deut. 26:15; Isa. 63:15) and punishment on His enemies (Ps. 2:4; 11:4-7). Heaven is a channel of communication between God and humans (Gen. 28:12; 2 Sam. 22:10; Neh. 9:13; Ps. 144:5).

Isaiah 1:13-14; “Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. 14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

2 Kings 17:16-18; “And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.  17 And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.  18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

Cloud stones

Figure 20 – Cloud stones on Salt Lake Temple

Mormon Church:

Cloudstones.  High above the sunstones on the east center tower are two clouds with descending rays of light (originally planned to be one white and one black with descending trumpets.) The parallel of this symbolism is found in the Old Testament. Once temples were dedicated in ancient Israel, they were filled with the “cloud of the Lord.” At Mount Sinai, the children of Israel saw this cloud as both dark and bright accompanied by the blasting of a trumpet.

http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/saltlake

Cloud stones — There are only two cloud stones on the temple. They are located on the east center tower and represent the gospel piercing through superstition and the error of the world.” – http://www.mormontimes.com/article/11331/Symbolism-can-be-seen-in-architecture-of-SL-Temple

Symbolism can be seen in architecture of S.L. Temple, Lynn Arave, 27 November 2008

 Truth:

The residence of God is no longer in the cloud on Mt. Sinai and the cloud is no longer in the temple in Jerusalem.   The desire to portray the two different colors black/white is suspicious as well given the other carvings on the temple.  Typically, having these color variations with the meaning of dark and bright/light together denotes yin yang.

The Holman Bible Dictionary also says this about the presence of God;

New Testament Usage The primary New Testament manifestation of the presence of God is in Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, “God with us” (Matt. 1:23; John 1:14; Heb. 1:1-3). This presence did not end with the death of Christ. The risen Christ appeared to the disciples (John 21:1-14) and to Paul. Through the apostles, Paul and the disciples, Christ’s work continued (Acts 1:8; 26:12-18). The Holy Spirit is an important manifestation of the presence of God and continues the redemptive work of God. The return of Christ will bring permanence to the presence of God with His people.”

2 Corinthians 6:16-17; “And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

Star stones

Figure 21 – pictured top row: Inverted Pentagram on Salt Lake Temple

Figure 22 – pictured middle row: Upright pentagram on Salt Lake Temple

Figure 23 – bottom row: Eagle Gate with inverted pentagram and beehive in Salt Lake City

Mormon Church:

Starstones.  Six-pointed stars represent the actual stars in the heaven. Upside-down five-pointed stars represent morning stars, compared to the “sons of God” in the scriptures. The large upright five-pointed stars may represent the governing power of the priesthood while the small upright five-pointed stars may represent the saving power of the priesthood for those who attach themselves to it.

http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/saltlake

THE FIVE-POINTED STARS  “The five-pointed star is often represented as the morning star. The descending ray of the Nauvoo Temple’s inverted five-point starstones (there is only one surviving example and it is damaged) was extended downward. Such an orientation suggests the rising morning star. This “star” is not a star at all, but the planet Venus…The starstones on the Nauvoo Temple, some with their unique lengthened ray, are a fitting symbol of Jesus Christ as the morning star.

http://users.marshall.edu/~brown/nauvoo/symbols.html

THE SIX-POINTED STARS  The six-pointed stars commonly represented the stars in the heavens, and clearly this was the intended purpose in placing them along the soffit, where only when persons looked upwards were they visible. There placement also on the balustrade, the highest point of the temple’s walls, also suggests that they represented the stars in heaven.

http://users.marshall.edu/~brown/nauvoo/symbols.html

THE TWELVE-POINTED STARS  The intended use of twelve pointed-stars in the circular windows of the main body of the Temple, may suggest the priesthood, as well as the fulness of the priesthood…Those righteous leaders who hold the priesthood in its fulness are the source of power, revelation and light to the Saints,”

http://users.marshall.edu/~brown/nauvoo/symbols.html

Star stones Just above the cornice of the temple are five-point star stones. The eastern towers have 40 star stones. These number 12 on the central towers. They are also found on the majority of keystones.

http://www.mormontimes.com/article/11331/Symbolism-can-be-seen-in-architecture-of-SL-Temple

Truth:

Equating Jesus to a pentagram is just about as bad as it gets.  My heart breaks for people like my mother who hasn’t a clue about the meanings of the occult markings on the temples.  The “saints” should only be looking to Jesus as their only source of power and revelation, not some twelve pointed star carved into the side of a building that hosts dead spirits.

As you’ll see below the meaning of stars always has to do with the spirit and elements of the earth – and this from the witch’s point of view!

The Pentagram is a symbol of a star encased in a circle. Always with 5 points (one pointing upward), each has its own meaning. The upward point of the star is representative of the spirit. The other four points all represent an element; earth, air, fire, and water.  All these things contributive to life and are a part of each of us.

http://www.angelfire.com/id/robpurvis/pentagram.html

Also see http://wikicompany.org/wiki/911:Occult_symbolism_III for further information on occult symbolism.  Six pointed stars are known by the names of “Magan star” and the “Star of Remphan”.

Stars are a Wicca symbol because they signify the unattainable wisdom of the Creatrix, which is attainable to those who study the esoteric arts.

Stars symbolize the potential of every being to reach Divinity, with all the wisdom and magickal Power that entails.

http://www.wicca-spirituality.com/wicca-symbol.html#star

The Holman Bible Dictionary points out that anything carved or otherwise representing something made by God is known as idolatry.  IDOL Physical or material image or form representing a reality or being considered divine and thus an object of worship. In the Bible various terms are used to refer to idols or idolatry: “image”, either graven (carved) or cast, “statue,” “abomination.” Both Testaments condemn idols, but with idols the Old Testament expresses more concern than the New, probably reflecting the fact that the threat of idolatry was more pronounced for the people of the Old Testament.”

Also noteworthy is what the Masonic Dictionary has to say about the importance of stars and numerology.  The number of stars and where they’re placed on the temple is not just a coincidence.

In Freemasonry there are many numbers of importance in a symbolic sense. Such numbers as 3, 5, 7 and 9 each have symbolic meaning to them. Some of this symbolism lies in Kabalistic notions, while others are representative of Masonic teachings.

2 Peter 2:14-17; “Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

  Angel Moroni

Figure 24 –Top row: Statue of Moroni, “the angel of light”, atop the Salt Lake Temple

Mormon Church:

The Angel Moroni statue — He represents the restoration of the gospel in the latter days…Missing features — Not all the symbolism originally planned for the Salt Lake Temple became a reality, either. For example, an early sketch of the temple by Angell found hanging today in Brigham Young’s guest room at Cove Fort shows that two Angel Moroni statues, one each on the east and west ends, were initially envisioned. Only an eastern statue was ever used for reasons unclear.

Symbolism can be seen in architecture of S.L. Temple, Lynn Arave, 27 November 2008

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 954; “From 1823 to 1829, the angel Moroni 2 appeared at least twenty times to Joseph Smith and others. Those appearances opened the way for the translation and publication of the Book of Mormon and laid the foundation of many of the Church’s most characteristic teachings. As a resurrected messenger of God, Moroni told Joseph Smith about the Nephite record on gold plates and taught him concerning the gathering of Israel, the forthcoming visit of Elijah, the imminence of the second coming of Jesus Christ, and the judgments to be poured out on the world prior to that event.

 Truth:

 Below is a list of several descriptions of the angel Moroni that sits atop the Salt Lake and Nauvoo temples.  Up until 1979 the introductory page of Doctrine and Covenants said;

“This took place in the early spring of 1820.  In September, 1823, and at later times, Joseph Smith received visitations from Moroni, an angel of light, who revealed the resting place of the ancient record from which the Book of Mormon was afterward translated”.

 They’re obviously not trying to hide their sin.  Their description of Satan is much like it is in the Bible.  Check out what they have to say in 2 Nephi 9:9;

“And our spirits must have become like unto him, and we become devils, angels to a devil, to be shut out from the presence of our God, and to remain with the father of lies, in misery, like unto himself; yea, to that being who beguiled our first parents, who transformeth himself nigh unto an angel of light, and stirreth up the children of men unto secret combinations of murder and all manner of secret works of darkness.

2 Corinthians 11:14; “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

And to further their belief that Moroni is Satan take a look at Joseph Smith’s own testimony:

Joseph Smith’s Testimony 1:47; After this third visit, he again ascended into heaven as before, and I was again left to ponder on the strangeness of what I had just experienced; when almost immediately after the heavenly messenger had ascended from me for the third time, the cock crowed, and I found that day was approaching, so that our interviews must have occupied the whole of that night.

This should remind everyone of what took place between Jesus and Peter!  To deny Jesus the third time with a false gospel and immediately a cock crows.  I just cannot imagine the look on the Lord’s face…

Luke 22:34, 60-62; “34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.  60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

Why would you want Satan to be the spokesman of your church?  I don’t know of any Christian who would want such a thing.  We have to wonder what type of gospel they’re trying to deliver to the saints.

In other testimonies by Smith friends and family members, we find that Moroni was originally morphed from a toad in a box into a Spaniard ghost with his throat cut from ear to ear and had blood dripping down the front of him.  This is the same angel, claims Smith, who appeared before him to deliver the plates which contained the gospel.  Seriously, this is what Smith had told others about an angel from heaven visiting him.

My heart is so, so sad…

I highly recommend purchasing the book written by H. Michael Marquardt and Wesley P. Walters called “Inventing Mormonism”.  The information about a toad morphing itself into a Spanish ghost can be found in their eye opening investigation of Joseph Smith and his money digging schemes. I can’t say enough about their investigative work – you’ll be sure to learn a lot from their tireless effort.

http://www.xmission.com/~research/about/contents.htm

 We could list other examples of how evil this angel of light Moroni is, but at the end of the day what matters are the words of the apostle Paul in Galatians 1:6-9;

“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

 Temple Towers

 Figure 26 – The Towers

Mormon Church:

“The six towers, the higher ones on the east representing the Melchizedek Priesthood and the lower ones on the west the Aaronic Priesthood, were a departure from the single-towered Kirtland and Nauvoo Temples.” – pg. 15

http://byustudies.byu.edu/PDFLibrary/36.4Oman%20be179c67-49fc-4bb6-bf21-2ef39ec72019.pdf

“On the two west corner towers, and on the west end, a few feet below the top of battlements, may be seen in bold or alto relievo, the great dipper, or Ursa Major, with the pointers ranging nearly towards the North Star. (Moral, the lost may find themselves by the Priesthood.)

– James Talmage, House of the Lord, pg. 121

“Prominent on the Salt Lake Temple are its towers. Three eastern towers, rising six feet higher than the corresponding towers on the west, represent the three presiding high priests of the Church who constitute the First Presidency. The three western towers represent the Presiding Bishopric of the Church, whose duty it is to supervise temporal interests.” – New Era, June 1978, pg. 33, Dean R. Zimmerman

 Truth:

The High Priest is represented in the person of Jesus Christ, not some granite towers or men who’ve attached the title to their own names.  The book of Hebrews tells us Jesus is high priest of the temple God created, that being mankind and not a temple built with human hands.

Hebrews 8:1-2; “Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; 2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

The true believers “find themselves” through the identification of Jesus, not men here on earth.  Man’s heart is deceitful (Jer. 17:9) as are the symbols on the temple – they’re even using symbols that tell you they are used for deception!  Why would you want to follow a sinful person here on earth?

With all the towers representing different priesthood powers, the bishopric, first presidency and high priests, one has to wonder where the Lord fits into all this.

Where is a sign of the cross that Jesus humbly walked to and allowed Himself to be sacrificed upon for your sins?

1 Corinthians 1:18; “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Figure 27 – Square and Compass

Mormon Church:

There exists no account for reason of the placement of the square and compass on the weather vane. One scholar has suggested that, since the compass, which is used to draw circles, points towards the bowl of the sky, and that the square, which is used to draw squares, points towards the earth, that the combination of the two symbols respresent [sic] the powers of God in creating the bowl of the starry heavens and the four corners of the earth (Brown and Smith, Symbols in Stone, p. 105).

NAUVOO TEMPLE EXTERIOR SYMBOLISM, By Lisle Brown

http://users.marshall.edu/~brown/nauvoo/symbols.html

 Truth:

The square and compass that once sat atop the angel Moroni weathervane on the Nauvoo temple served only one purpose.  It was a proclamation that Mormons were indeed aligning themselves with the oaths and precepts of the Masonic Lodge.  It is nothing more than a symbol of the pride they hold in their hearts for the lies they tell.

As you can see in the Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, use of the symbol of the square and compass is to promote deception.

Encyclopedia of Freemasonry; “Square and Compasses…It will be universally understood, or misunderstood, as having a Masonic significance; and, therefore, as a trade-mark, must constantly work deception. Nothing could be more mischievous than to create as a monopoly, and uphold by the poser of lacy anything so calculated as applied to purposes of trade. To be misinterpreted, to mislead all classes, and to constantly foster suggestions of mystery in affairs of business…

3 John 1:7-8; “Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.  8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

 Big Dipper

Figure 28 – Salt Lake Temple – Notice the Saturn stones above the Big Dipper and the sun stone beneath.

Mormon Church:

“Big Dipper.  High on the west center tower is a depiction of the Big Dipper, a constellation used by travelers for thousands of years to find the North Star. It is an appropriate symbol for the temple where patrons come to get their bearings on the journey home.

http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/saltlake

“Constellations — Above the windows on the west central tower are representations of Ursa Major and the Big Dipper. Angell once wrote that Ursa Major and its pointer toward the North Star symbolize that the lost may find themselves by the priesthood.
http://www.mormontimes.com/article/11331/Symbolism-can-be-seen-in-architecture-of-SL-Temple

“On the west central tower, above the windows, can be found Ursa Major, the Big Dipper, intended to remind those in doubt concerning the true way, that they should follow the path indicated by the priesthood. Angell recorded that Ursa Major means that the lost may find themselves by the priesthood.

 Truth:

I was reminded of the greatness of God in the book Crazy Love, Pastor Frances Chan when he said; “Jesus Servant, Not Beggar.  In Malachi 1:11 God says, “From the rising of the sun even to its setting My name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense is going to be offered to My name, and a grain offering that is pure: for My name will be great among the nations”.

God tells the priests that if they don’t’ want to give him excellence, others will.  God says His name will be great among the nations.  Right now a hundred million angels are praising God’s name; He certainly doesn’t need to beg or plead with us.  We should be the ones begging to worship in His presence.

My prayer is that my people, the Mormons, will be there worshipping in that throng of people and angels someday.  What a glorious time we will have!  Raising God to His rightful place in our hearts is a sure cure against the heretical belief of becoming gods ourselves someday.

I’ve not found a scripture yet that refers to Jesus as Ursa Major or that we should “find ourselves by the priesthood”.  The Scottish missionary Amy Carmichael once said; “If I covet anything but the dust at the foot of the cross I know nothing of Calvary Love”.  It is apparent the Mormon Church hasn’t a clue about Calvary Love.

Why would you refer to the Creator of all things to one of the things He created?

Ursa Major has been known throughout history in many cultures as a bear.  In Greek mythology Zeus’ wife turned Callisto (originally a nymph) into a bear because of jealousy.  In India each of the stars in the Big Dipper represents a beloved sage while in Theosophy it’s believed the energy of Ursa Major goes from each of the stars on down to the human race.

Regardless of what the different cultures have said down through history, one thing has always stood firm and true; God’s word.  The Lord has consistently warned His people to stay away from worshipping, believing in or paying homage to things He has created.  Our total adoration and desire for guidance must and should always go to Him who gave His only Son.

Exodus 20:4; “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

May the good Lord bless those who have taken their time to read and ponder through this study.  If you’re a member of the LDS Church know that we pray for you each and every day.  We hope you will come to know the Jesus of the Bible, just as we have done.

With Love in Christ; Michelle Grim

Jude 1:24-25; “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,  25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

December 15 – Revelation 2:17; “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.”

_____

Manna is one of the key words in this verse.  What is the hidden manna?  God supplied the Israelites daily needs for 40 years.  Day in, year out, He was there to make sure they had all they needed!  John 6:49-51 is where Jesus told us that He is the Bread of Life, the hidden manna John mentions again here in Revelation.

Also, the stone signifies approval towards you.  The Bible is replete with rich meanings which He wants for us to know.  Share this with a Mormon during this holiday season and give them the gift of knowing the real Jesus!

What the Mormon won’t tell you is that when you go into the temple for “holy endowments”, everyone doing temple work that day gets the same “secret name”.  They change the name for the next day’s participants and so on.  They believe the “white stone” is the secret name.  Ask them why the temple worker would know his/her secret name and why the husband would know his wife’s secret name if only Jesus was supposed to know it.  This continues to give them something to think about.

_____

Doctrine and Covenants 130:9-11; “This earth, in its sanctified and immortal state, will be made like unto crystal and will be a Urim and Thummim to the inhabitants who dwell thereon, whereby all things pertaining to an inferior kingdom, or all kingdoms of a lower order, will be manifest to those who dwell on it; and this earth will be Christ’s.  Then the white stone mentioned in Revelation 2:17, will become a Urim and Thummim to each individual who receives one, whereby things pertaining to a higher order of kingdoms will be made known; And a white stone is given to each of those who come into the celestial kingdom, whereon is a new name written, which no man knoweth save he that receiveth it. The new name is the key word.”
