February 28 – Matthew 16:13-16; “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?  And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptists: some, Elias; and other, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.  He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”.

There have been and will continue to be many who call themselves “The Christ” or the only path to salvation.  In today’s age, we see Mohammed, the Jehovah Witnesses, and here we have the Mormon Church.  Make sure you know whom Jesus Christ is and watch out for the wolves in sheep’s clothing.

_____

Jedidiah M. Grant said in Journal of Discourses, Vol. 1. pp. 345-46; “The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, causing his crucifixion, was evidently based upon polygamy, according to the testimony of the philosophers who rose in that age.  A belief in the doctrine of a plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus and his followers.  We might almost think that they [Jesus and his followers] were Mormons.”

February 27 – “Neither is salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

_____

AMEN!  We must ask the Mormon what the phrase “none other name” means to them.

_____

“Some have said that I was very presumptuous to say that Brother Brigham was my God and Saviour, Brother Joseph was his God and the one that gave Joseph the keys of the kingdom was his God which was Peter.  Jesus Christ was his God and (the) Father of Jesus Christ was Adam.”  Journal of Wilford Woodruff, April 10, 1852.

February 26 – “Neither give heed to fables or endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.”  1 Tim. 1:4.

_____

Ask the Mormon if Joseph Smith had absolute proof that he truly was related to Jesus Christ then what good does it do him?  What purpose does it serve to even mention something like this?  Would it mean that he had a ticket to heaven because of it?

_____

D&C 113:5-6; “What is the root of Jesse spoken of in the 10th verse of the 11th chapter (Isaiah).  Behold, thus saith the Lord, it is a descendant of Jesse, as well as of Joseph, unto whom rightly belongs the priesthood, and the keys of the kingdom, for an ensign, and for the gathering of my people in the last days”.

February 25 – “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God;  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even death of the cross.”  Phil. 2:5-6, 8.

_____

There are actually two subjects to notice with this verse.  Explain the word “robbery” to the Mormon.  In the Greek, it means “grasped”.  The other subject is the belief that Jesus had to perform, or work, to receive His salvation.

_____

“If a man gets a fullness of the priesthood of God he has to get it in the same way that Jesus Christ obtained it, and that was by keeping all the commandments and obeying all the ordinances of the house of the Lord.”  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 308

February 24 – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.  Romans 3:23.

_____

Not one Mormon believes that children can sin.  They baptize at the age of eight to be cleansed from their sins because this is when they believe you become accountable for your actions.  Have a Mormon try to explain away a two-year-old child’s behavior.  Also ask them why they’d have to be baptized for a remission of sins if they were perfect up until they got baptized.

_____

D&C 29:47-8; “Wherefore, they cannot sin, for power is not given unto Satan to tempt little children, until they begin to become accountable before me; For it is given unto them even as I will, according to mine own pleasure, that great things may be required at the hands of their fathers”.

February 23 – Galatians 1:8 says; “But if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed”.

_____

Seems evident from this verse that there are no other gospels or testimonies from anyone no matter what they say!  The front of the Book of Mormon now says that it is “Another Testament of Jesus Christ”.  Ask your Mormon friend what his thoughts are about this predicament.

_____

Joseph Smith said; “Take away the Book of Mormon and the revelations, and where is our religion?  We have none”.   Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 71.  In other words, there is nothing inside of this religion that has anything to do with Jesus Christ.

February 21 – God warns us about false prophets in Deut. 13:6-9; “If thy brother, the son of they mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou has no known, thou, nor thy father; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him…”

_____

It seems clear how serious God was in regards to false prophets.  He wanted none of them to survive, and He certainly didn’t want us to pity them.  We are told not to listen at all to them.

_____

Joseph Smith seemed to believe that he could slip out of his self-proclaimed prophet-hood anytime he chose to do so.  Is this reasonable considering all we’ve learned just this year?  He is quoted in Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith as follows; “…I told them that a prophet was a prophet only when he was acting as such”.  History of the Church 5:265

February 20 – Col. 2:13; “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses”.

_____

In Mormonism, God does not forgive three sins.  They are blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, apostasy and murder.  With this in mind, isn’t it odd that God would choose Paul of all people to preach the gospel when he participated in Stephen’s martyrdom and then there’s David…

_____

“A murderer, for instance, one that sheds innocent blood, cannot have forgiveness.  David sought repentance at the hand of God carefully with tears, for the murder of Uriah; but he could only get it through hell…Although David was a king, he never did obtain the spirit and power of Elijah and the fullness of the Priesthood…the throne and kingdom of David is to be taken from him and given to another by the name of David in the last days…”  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg 339.

February 19 – The word or name Adam is translated in the Hebrew as meaning the first man, or ruddy, from the ground.  Gen. 2:19.

_____

Joseph Smith taught that man’s spirit was sexually begotten by God before he came to earth.  He also taught that Adam was actually Michael the angel, and Noah was Gabriel.

_____

D&C 107:54; “And the Lord appeared unto them, and they rose up and blessed Adam, and called him Michael, the prince, the archangel.”

February 18 – God dresses us through Christ Jesus in the garments of salvation as He spoke of in Isaiah 61:10; “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels”.

_____

Under the Mormon’s street clothing” are their temple garments.  These garments are to be worn at all times.  They have markings on each breast and groin area for both male and female.  Mormons see them as a sign of protection from God and to be set apart from the rest of the world.  They use Rev. 16:15 as a reference to their need of being clothed with them.

_____

“The garment represents sacred covenants.  It fosters modesty and becomes a shield and protection to the wearer.”  Preparing to Enter the Holy Temple, pg. 21.

February 17 – Hebrews 1:5 is clear about what God said in relation to angels and Jesus Christ.  “For unto which of the angels said he at any time, THOU ART MY SON, THIS DAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN THEE?  And again, I WILL BE TO HIM A FATHER, AND HE SHALL BE TO ME A SON?”

_____

Mormons believe that Jesus and Lucifer are literally spiritually begotten by God and the Heavenly Mother.  Ask them what they think about this verse.

_____

“The contention in heaven was-Jesus said there would be certain souls that would not be saved; and the devil said he could save them all, and laid his plans before the grand council, who gave their vote in favor of Jesus Christ.  So the devil rose up in rebellion against God, and was cast down, with all who put up their heads for him”.  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 357.

February 16 – 1 Corinthians 15:47; “The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven”.

_____

Mormons will tell you there aren’t any scriptures that say we don’t have a heavenly mother, yet it’s clear that God is self-existent without the need of anyone’s help for creating us.  In fact, He’s the only one to come down from heaven at all, meaning we were not with Him before living on this earth.  Ask the Mormon why they believe there is a “Heavenly Mother”.

_____

“This doctrine that there is a Mother in Heaven was affirmed in plainness by the First Presidency of the Church…that man is the “offspring of celestial parentage” and that “all men and women are in the similitude of the universal Father and Mother, and are literally the sons and daughters of Deity””.  Mormon Doctrine pg. 516, Bruce McConkie.

February 15 – 2 Timothy 3:16 says; “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”.

_____

Mormon scripture is a compilation of what they refer to as “the standard works”.  These books consist of the Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, Pearl of Great Price and the Bible.  However, they only believe the Bible “as far as it is translated correctly”.  Ask them why they believe in God’s word if it can’t be trusted.

_____

“The words contained in this Bible are merely a history of what is gone by; it was never given to guide the servant of God in the course he should pursue.  The Bible is not a sufficient guide, it is only the history of the people who lived 1800 years ago”.  Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, pg. 75.

February 14 – 1 John 4:19; ‘We love him, because he first loved us’.

_____

God so loved us dear one that He sent His only begotten Son (John 3:16) to die for you and me personally.  Think today of His great love for you.  Agapao in the Greek  means love, or ‘beloved’.  It’s derivative comes from a deliberate sense of the will, His will, because of His fondness for you.  It’s unfathomable to the Mormon that anyone could love them this much, let alone God, so make sure you send them a love letter from God.  Share this scripture!

_____

‘Love is always associated with and manifest through service.’  Mormon Doctrine, pg 459.

February 13 – 1 Timothy 1:17 says; ‘Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever.  Amen.’

_____

When sharing your faith with a Mormon the key word in this verse is ‘eternal’.  In the Greek it is ‘aion’, or perpetual.  It is understood that perpetual, or eternal means without beginning or end.  The only ‘thing’ this word applies is to the existence of God.  Man is a created being, but to the Mormon they are co-eternal with God.

_____

‘The mind or intelligence which man possesses is co-equal with God himself’.  Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 352.

February 12 – Are you sure you’re saved?  “…for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day”.  2 Tim. 1:12b

_____

Your question to a Mormon today should be twofold.  1-Who exactly is Jesus Christ?  2-If you died today would you go to heaven?  If a Mormon is to be completely honest, he won’t be able fulfill his obligations here on earth to attain full salvation.

_____

“This full salvation is obtained in and through the continuation of the family unit in eternity, and those who obtain it are gods.”  MD, pg. 670.

February 11 – Peter’s denial of Jesus.  Matthew 26:34 says; “Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice”.

_____

Some things are more obvious than others when we deny the Lord.  There will be enticements that are blatantly clear which we know we’d be denying Him if we indulged ourselves.  The account of Joseph Smith’s visitations from Moroni should have been a sign to him that Moroni was evil.

_____

“After this third visit, he again ascended into heaven as before, and I was again left to ponder on the strangeness of what I had just experienced; when almost immediately after the heavenly messenger had ascended from me for the third time, the cock crowed…”  Joseph Smith’s Testimony 2:47.

February 10 – Gal. 1:8; “But though we or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed”.

_____

Within Mormonism are teachings of how to greet different kinds of angels, how to tell if they’re good or bad and what role they play in the creation of the earth.  This type of teaching mimics the beliefs of Gnosticism that Paul warned of in many of his epistles.

_____

On the introductory page of D&C it says this about the angel Moroni: “Joseph Smith received visitations from Moroni, an angel of light”.

February 9 – God’s Word is full of examples on how we can recognize the evil one.  In 2 Cor. 11:14 Paul says; “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light”.

_____

Most of the Book of Mormon has been plagiarized from the King James Version of the Bible, yet the Mormons hold its validity in higher regard than they do the Bible.  Show them from their own works what it says about Satan and the angel Moroni.

_____

2 Nephi 9:9; “…to that being who beguiled our first parents, who transformeth himself nigh unto an angel of light, and stirreth up the children of men…”

Intro page of D&C prior to 1976 said; “…Joseph Smith received visitations from Moroni, an angel of light who revealed the resting place of the ancient record from which the Book of Mormon was afterward translated”.

February 8 – “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days;” Col. 2:16

_____

When Jesus came to earth, He was the fulfillment of the Law.  There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.  If you’re truly saved, your outward behavior is a manifestation of your inner conversion, thus negating the need for more laws to follow.  Obeying the ordinances of man doesn’t bring honor to God.

_____

“Three types of things are prohibited to man by the Word of Wisdom—tobacco, strong drinks, and hot drinks…through the cleanliness resulting from keeping this law of health, and by ‘walking in obedience to the commandment’, the saints will qualify for the companionship of the Holy Spirit…”  Mormon Doctrine, pgs. 845-847
