We are only "dead to sin" and our "sinful nature done away with" in the aspect of, we don't purposely live in sin day in and day out. We don't get steeped in activities that lead to sin or go places (whether in person or the internet) that promotes sin and hedonism. We don't actively seek out sin and "wallow in it".

We still wrestle with our flesh and our sinful desires. Paul even wrote about "doing the things he ought not to and not doing the things he should". As believers, we are "new creations" and our past sins are forgiven... and our future sins are forgiven... PRAISE be to JESUS!!!

It doesn't mean that we can live a life free from sin (remember Jesus said that even what you feel in your heart is sin. Someone cuts you off in traffic and almost causes you to wreck with your family in the car... don't tell me you don't even for a second get very mad at that person... that is sin).

We are only perfect and sinless in God's eyes because of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Only through His righteousness can we be made holy and blameless. It is nothing that we can ever do... Our good deeds and righteous acts are like filthy rags in God's presence... Trying to follow the letter of the Law will only lead to uncertainity and depression.

There is so much Joy and Freedom that only comes from a personal relationship with Jesus! The Son has set me free, and I am free indeed. Doesn't mean that I should go on sinning so that Grace will abound...

Jesus said the 2 greatest commandments are Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength / Love your neighbor as yourself. That's all there is to it...

Interesting thoughts, I would agree that there is such a thing as original sin, a sinful nature. Paul outlines this beautifully in Romans 5 as he builds his case for sin being about a state of being and not our actions (and in turn so is righteousness)

However I do think that while we had one to begin with it has most certainly been circumcised from us as believer - Col 2:11 and that it died on the cross along with Christ - Rom 6:1-4, 6-8, 11, 14, 17-18, 22 & Gal 2:20.

What do you think about the overwhelming amount of scriptures that talk about us being dead to sin and the sinful nature having been done away with?
