Plan of Salvation

“In the premortal existence, Heavenly Father prepared a plan to enable us to become like Him and receive a fulness of joy. The scriptures refer to this plan as “the plan of salvation” (Alma 24:14; Moses 6:62), “the great plan of happiness” (Alma 42:8), “the plan of redemption” (Jacob 6:8; Alma 12:30), and “the plan of mercy” (Alma 42:15). The plan of salvation is the fulness of the gospel. It includes the Creation, the Fall, the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and all the laws, ordinances, and doctrines of the gospel. Moral agency, the ability to choose and act for ourselves, is also essential in Heavenly Father’s plan. Because of this plan, we can be perfected through the Atonement, receive a fulness of joy, and live forever in the presence of God. Our family relationships can last throughout the eternities.” –

Who was Adam in the pre-existence?

Doctrines of Salvation 1:90; “The first man placed upon the earth was a perfect being, a son of God. He was Michael, the Archangel, who had reached great distinction and power before he ever came to this earth; and who helped to frame this earth while he was yet a spirit, just as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was a spirit before he was born in Bethlehem.  Michael, after being placed upon this earth, is known as Adam.”

What are the “robes of righteousness” to a member of the LDS Church?

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 535; “In a Messianic passage Isaiah declared: “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness” (Isa. 61:10). In the current dispensation, the principle has been reaffirmed in prophetic idiom: “Zion must increase in beauty,…and put on her beautiful garments” (D&C 82:14). Latter-day Saints believe that all such clothing is symbolic of the submission, sanctification, and spotless purity of those who desire to serve God and Christ and ultimately regain their eternal presence (D&C 61:34; 135:5).”

Pre-existence

Discourses of Brigham Young, pg. 58; “We had an existence before we came into the world. Our spirits came here pure to take these tabernacles; they came to occupy them as habitations, with the understanding that all that had passed previously to our coming here should be taken away from us, that we should not know anything about it. 3:367.”

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Christian Behavior

Mitt Romney, Mark DeMoss at BYU and “True Christians”

Today I received a link to a story in the Salt Lake Tribune.  Lo and behold there was another evangelical telling me (and millions of other people) that evangelicals can’t “attack and demean Mormons or President Barack Obama and still consider yourself a follower of Jesus Christ”.

Mormonism and the Washington Post

Today I received an e-mail from my good friend Ed Decker asking me to post a comment on the blog site for The Washington Post.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/on-faith/post/mormonisms-modern-day-problem/2012/01/22/gIQApCeiJQ_blog.html

In an article written by one of their reporters, Sally Quinn, she related a conversation she had with one of her friends she described as a “liberal atheist”. This conversation between the two of them was focused on why people who are religious are weird and why Smith’s religion is too new for anyone to believe it. I can appreciate their conversation because I used to think and feel the exact same way.

The Golden Plates of Mormonism

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 555;While the plates were in Joseph’s keeping, others saw them, including eleven witnesses whose testimonies appear in all editions of the book.  Various descriptions provided by eyewitnesses suggest that the plates may have been made of a gold alloy, measured about 6 inches by 8 inches (15.2 cm by 20.3 cm), were 6 inches (15.2 cm) thick, and weighed about 50 pounds (22.7 kg).

Mosiah 8:9;And for a testimony that the things that they had said are true they have brought twenty-four plates which are filled with engravings, and they are of pure gold.

Today we’re looking at the gold plates and Joseph Smith’s character.  Where are the plates today?  Were they made of gold or something resembling gold?  The many descriptions of the plates remind me of Joseph Smith.  Some say he was the real deal just as those plates, while others tell a story of a man that looks good on the outside, but when you get up close it becomes clear all that glitters isn’t gold.

January 24 – Aside from the perfect announcement that God came in human flesh to pay the price for sin, the New Testament is mainly about the doctrines of God.  In it we find how to conduct ourselves even through the simple structure of church life.  1 Tim. 3:12 says; “let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well”.

Necromancy in Mormon Temples

Journal of Discourses 19:229-230; “The dead will be after you, they will seek after you as they have after us in St. George. They called upon us, knowing that we held the keys and power to redeem them. I will here say, before closing, that two weeks before I left St. George, the spirits of the dead gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them.” – Wilford Woodruff
