Where are the golden plates?

Mormon Doctrine, pg. 327; “Moroni deposited the plates in the Hill Cumorah in about 421 A.D., and then as a resurrected being revealed the hiding place to the Prophet on September 22, 1823. Four years later the Prophet was permitted to obtain possession of them, but the actual translation of the portion we now have as the Book of Mormon did not take place until between April 7 and June 11, 1829. Thereafter the plates were returned to the custody of Moroni. (Jos. Smith 2:27-65; D. & C. 27:5; Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, pp. 215-226.”

The Greatness of Joseph Smith?

Life of Joseph the Prophet, pg. 178; “…As Jesus, in the days of his flesh, was the revelator of the Father, so was Joseph the revelator of the Son, in the ministry of his resurrection. Not a minister upon the testimony of apostles given eighteen hundred years ago, but a witness proceeding from Christ in our own day: a special witness to the world of the ministry and resurrection of Jesus: the revelator of the new and everlasting covenant to Israel: the revelator again of God to man, continuing the testimony which Jesus bore of the Father: the messenger of God, proclaiming to mankind a present revelation and a Diving gospel.”

Salvation

Discourses of Brigham Young, pg. 59; “Is there a debt contracted between the Father and his children? There is. Our first parents transgressed the law that was given them in the garden; their eyes were opened. This created the debt. What is the nature of this debt? It is a divine debt. What will pay it? I ask, Is there anything short of a divine sacrifice that can pay this debt? No; there is not.”

How did Joseph Smith receive the authority to hold the keys of priesthood?

This question should be one of the most important questions to ask the Mormon people.  The LDS Church says that “priesthood is power” so this means they view themselves as the only authority to speak for and act in behalf of God.

I had the privilege of asking my dear friend Ed Decker to write a chapter in my mentoring handbook and so we’re answering our dilemma question today with Ed’s contribution!

Who is your mother in heaven?

Nowhere in LDS doctrine does it give any hint to the name of the “heavenly mother” although they do talk quite a deal about her existence.

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 961; “In 1909 the First Presidency, under Joseph F. Smith, issued a statement on the origin of man that teaches that “man, as a spirit, was begotten and born of heavenly parents, and reared to maturity in the eternal mansions of the Father,” as an “offspring of celestial parentage,” and further teaches that “all men and women are in the similitude of the universal Father and Mother, and are literally the sons and daughters of Deity” (Smith, pp. 199-205).”

Romney, Polygamy, Racism and the Mormon Church

Well tomorrow is a big day for Iowa.  The elections on Tuesday night (January 3, 2011), are supposed to be a good indication of how the rest of the nation might look for the big vote come this November.  Let’s pray that people will make good decisions when choosing who they want to represent this great nation of ours!

Joseph Smith’s Evil Thoughts

Discourses of Joseph Smith, pg. 273; “”The Lord once told me that what I asked for I should have. I have been afraid to ask God to kill my enemies, lest some of them should, peradventure, repent.” (George Q. Cannon, Life of Joseph Smith, The Prophet, pp. 527-28.)”

2 Corinthians 10:5; “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

I am so utterly grateful my Lord and God Jesus snatched me out of this fiery pit.  After enjoying almost nineteen years of salvation I still can’t believe He saved me of all people!

The remarks by Mr. Smith tell a story.  They speak of a man filled with haughtiness and no fear of God.  Pray for the Mormon in your life today that lives under this domination which has been passed on down through the generations.

It’s obvious leaders in the Church have no remorse over some of his remarks else they would’ve discarded this instead of leaving it in the piles of papers for people to discover.  And what we found in this is Joseph Smith’s true character.

Did Smith believe God could’ve overlooked or forgotten someone might “repent”?  And why is Smith judging someone’s heart?  Who is he to say someone needs to repent?  My list of questions could go on but I am thinking upon the words of Paul in the scripture above.  Hold all thoughts captive…

What is the everlasting covenant?

Doctrines of Salvation 1:153; “Keeping the Sabbath day holy is a covenant between man and the Lord…All of the Ten Commandments are everlasting covenants. The law of tithing is a form of an everlasting covenant, the covenant of revenue for the Church…Marriage is an everlasting covenant…The law of marriage to the Church, like the covenant of baptism, is new because it is not the marriage of the world, but for time and for all eternity. Yet this everlasting law of marriage is that which was in the beginning.”

Jesus Died for Man’s Sins

Discourses of Wilford Woodruff, pg. 3; “THE MISSION OF CHRIST. The Savior came and tabernacled in the flesh, and entered upon the duties of the priesthood at thirty years of age. After laboring three and a half years he was crucified and put to death in fulfilment of certain predictions concerning him. He laid down his life as a sacrifice for sin, to redeem the world.”
