Joseph Smith’s Bad Behavior is No Problem!

Journal of Discourses 4:77; “If he acts like a devil, he has brought forth a doctrine that will save us, if we will abide it. He may get drunk every day of his life, sleep with his neighbor’s wife every night, run horses and gamble, I do not care anything about that, for I never embrace any man in my faith. But the doctrine he has produced will save you and me, and the whole world; and if you can find fault with that, find it.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, November 9, 1856

The Juvenile Instructor, No 11, Vol. 1, pg 43; “The Nephites, on the contrary, were a very industrious, peaceable people…They were also a very white and beautiful and highly intellectual and cultivated people…After this there were none but Lamanites left, and the present American Indians are their descendants.” – Salt Lake City, June 1, 1866

August 30 – John 1:12-13; “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Joseph Smith Knows More than Whole Earth

Times and Seasons 5:614-617; “…No man can learn you more than what I have told you…I have been reading the German and find it to be the most correct…I know more than all the world put together, (pg 614 – 1st paragraph) and the Holy Ghost within me comprehends more than all the world…I have now preached a little Latin, a little Hebrew, Greek and German, and I have fulfilled all. I am not so big a fool as many have taken me to be. The Germans know that I read the German correct. (pg 617 – 2nd paragraph)…” http://www.centerplace.org/history/ts/v5n15.htm

Brigham isn’t Sure How Earth was Created

Journal of Discourses 14:116-117; “As for the Bible account of the creation we may say that the Lord gave it to Moses, or that Moses obtained the history and traditions of the fathers, and from them picked out what he considered necessary…no matter whether it is correct or not, and whether the Lord found the earth empty or void, or whether he made it out of nothing or out of the rude elements…it will remain a matter of speculation in the minds of men unless he give revelation on the subject.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, May 14, 1871

Leave Mormonism, Lose Family

Journal of Discourses 4:165; “A motion has been put, and unanimously carried, that John Hyde be cut off root and branch, that is, himself and all the roots and branches that are within him; this has no allusion to his family. He has taken a course by which he has lost his family and forfeited his Priesthood; he has forfeited his membership. The limb is cut off, but the Priesthood takes the fruit that was attached to the limb and saves it, if it will be saved. Do you understand me? His wife is not cut off from this Church, but she is free from him; she is just as free from him as though she never had belonged to him. The limb she was connected to is cut off, and she must again be grafted into the tree, if she wishes to be saved; that is all about it.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, January 11, 1857

Joseph a Second Mohammed?

Fawn M. Brodie, No Man Knows My History, p. 230-231; “We will trample down our enemies and make it one gore of blood from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. I will be to this generation a second Mohammed, whose motto in treating for peace was ‘the Alcoran [Qu’ran] or the Sword.’ So shall it eventually be with us – ‘Joseph Smith or the Sword!’” – Joseph Smith, October 14, 1838

Earth not Made out of Nothing

Journal of Discourses 14:116-117; “…to assert that the Lord made this earth out of nothing is preposterous and impossible. God never made something out of nothing; it is not in the economy or law by which the worlds were, are, or will exist…How long it has been organized it is not for me to say, and I do not care anything about it.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, May 14, 1871

Church Views Outweighs Truth

Journal of Discourses 5:83-84; “…if the Prophet of God should tell me that a certain principle or theory which I might have learned was not true , I do not care what my ideas might have been, I should consider it my duty, as the suggestion of my file leader, to abandon that principle or theory.” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, April 9, 1857

Civil War won’t Free the Slaves

Journal of Discourses 10:250; “Will the present struggle free the slave? No.…Treat the slaves kindly and let them live, for Ham must be the servant of servants until the curse is removed. Can you destroy the decrees of the Almighty? You cannot.”— Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 6, 1863

Christians are Whoremasters

Journal of Discourses 5:90; “Christians—those poor, miserable priests brother Brigham was speaking about—some of them are the biggest whoremasters there are on the earth, and at the same time preaching righteousness to the children of men. The poor devils, they could not get up here and preach an oral discourse, to save themselves from hell; they are preaching their fathers’ sermons—preaching sermons that were written a hundred years before they were born.” – Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake City, July 26, 1857

Denial of Polygamy Means No Salvation

Journal of Discourses 3:266; “Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned; and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given, and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.” – Brigham Young, Provo, July 14, 1855
