Hinckley Condemns Polygamy
Gordon B. Hinckley, on Larry King Live, September 8, 1998; “I condemn [polygamy], yes, as a practice, because I think it is not doctrinal. It is not legal. And this church takes the position that we will abide by the law.”

Bible Will Profit You Little
Encyclopedia of Joseph Smith’s Teachings, p. 73; “You may hug up to yourselves the Bible, but, except through faith in it you get revelation for yourself, the Bible will profit you but little. (Hyrum L. Andrus and Helen Mae Andrus, comps., They Knew the Prophet, p. 101)”

No Polygamy, No Salvation
Deseret News November 14, 1855, pg 2; “If any of you will deny the plurality of wives and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned…I wish more of our young men would take to themselves wives of the daughters of Zion, and not wait for us old men to take them all; go ahead upon the right principle, young gentlemen, and God bless you for ever and ever and make you fruitful , that we may fill the mountains and then the earth with righteous inhabitants.” – Heber C. Kimball, Comments made on October 6, 1855

I don’t know of any modern-day Mormon teaching that promotes this theory today.

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Mormon E-mails 2
After I got done with a meeting I had this afternoon I took a quick look at my post about the Mormon e-mail and realized I hadn’t included what I had intended to write to Shane – yikes!
I wrote Shane back and apologized. I got sidetracked and didn’t pay attention to what I was doing because I’m in a hurry today – ugh… I should never be in that big of a hurry!!! So here’s the follow up and please, pray for him won’t you?

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Mormon E-mails
I receive quite a few e-mails from Christians and Mormons each day and I thought I’d use this one I received yesterday as an example of our work behind the scenes.
The reason I’m sharing this isn’t to humiliate or condemn this Mormon fellow, but to educate the Christian community of the response from a typical Mormon and how they process information that opposes their belief in God.
I’ve included my response and am waiting on his reply. Most Mormons won’t write back.

Apostasy…not Exactly
Answers to Gospel Questions 2:45; “Moreover, the Lord, of necessity, has kept authorized servants on the earth bearing the priesthood from the days of Adam to the present time; in fact, there has never been a moment from the beginning that there were not men on the earth holding the Holy Priesthood. (Moses 5:59.) Even in the days of apostasy, and apostasy has occurred several times, the Lord never surrendered this earth and permitted Satan to have complete control. Even when the great apostasy occurred following the death of the Savior’s apostles, our Father in heaven held control and had duly authorized servants on the earth to direct his work and to check, to some extent at least, the ravages and corruption of the evil powers. These servants were not permitted to organize the Church nor to officiate in the ordinances of the gospel, but they did check the advances of evil as far as the Lord deemed it necessary.” – Joseph Fielding Smith, jr.

Joseph Smith, Jr to be around Until Jesus Returns
History of the Church 1:323; “Among the number, my father presented himself, but before I washed his feet, I asked of him a father’s blessing, which he granted by laying his hands upon my head, in the name of Jesus Christ, and declaring that I should continue in the Priest’s office until Christ comes.” – January 23, 1833

Power of the Priesthood
Liahona and Ensign, May 2010; “We can and in due time certainly will influence all of humanity. It will be known who we are and why we are. It might seem hopeless; it is monumentally difficult; but it is not only possible but certain that we will win the battle against Satan.” — Boyd K. Packer

Adam Held the Priesthood
History of the Church 3:385; “The Priesthood was first given to Adam; he obtained the First Presidency, and held the keys of it from generation to generation. He obtained it in the Creation, before the world was formed, as in Gen. 1:26, 27, 28. He had dominion given him over every living creature. He is Michael the Archangel, spoken of in the Scriptures. Then to Noah, who is Gabriel; he stands next in authority to Adam in the Priesthood; he was called of God to this office, and was the father of all living in his day, and to him was given the dominion. These men held keys first on earth, and then in heaven.”

What Makes a Christian Church Christian?
Journal of Discourses 18:44; “If we can find a church that has the gifts and the signs spoken of by the New Testament, we can find true Christian Church; but if we can’t find such, we have no reason to believe that there is such a Church on the earth. “But,” says one, “we call ourselves Christians.” That is a very easy matter; but calling yourselves Christians or Christian churches does not make you such.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 11, 1875

Polygamy Most Important Doctrine
Journal of Discourses 21:9; “This doctrine of eternal union of husband and wife, and of plural marriage, is one of the most important doctrines ever revealed to man in any age of the world. Without it man would come to a full stop; without it we never could be exalted to associate with and become god…” – Joseph F. Smith, Salt Lake City, December 7, 1879

Mormon Temple Videos
It’s hard to encapsulate into one word or even one phrase what it’s like going through the rituals in the Mormon temple.
The majority of people are immediately besieged with a creepy feeling from their experience, present company included. While I personally wasn’t married in the temple or went through sealing ceremonies with my parents, I was baptized for the dead on numerous occasions.

It’s interesting to note that according to the Mormon temple endowment ceremony not long after Adam chants the same thing Satan appeared.
ADAM PRAYS
ADAM: Brethren and sisters, this represents the telestial kingdom, or the world in which we now live. Adam, on finding himself in the lone and dreary world, built an altar and offered prayer, and these are the words he uttered:
[Adam kneels at the altar and lifts his hands towards heaven, each arm raised to the square.]
Oh God, hear the words of my mouth.
Oh God, hear the words of my mouth.
Oh God, hear the words of my mouth.[Lucifer comes into view.]
LUCIFER: I hear you. What is it you want?
ADAM: Who are you?
LUCIFER: I am the god of this world.
ADAM: You, the god of this world?
LUCIFER: Yes. What do you want?
ADAM: I am looking for messengers.
LUCIFER: Oh, you want someone to preach to you. You want religion, do you? There will be many willing to preach to you the philosophies of men mingled with scripture.
ADAM: But I am looking for messengers from my Father.

Journal of Discourses 13:166; “If we were to do away with polygamy…we must do away with prophets and Apostles, with revelation and the gifts and graces of the Gospel, and finally give up our religion altogether and turn sectarians and do as the world does.” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, December 12, 1869
