“Instruct them to give unto Adam and his posterity the law of the gospel as contained in the Book of Mormon and the Bible; also, a charge to avoid all light-mindedness, loud laughter, evil speaking of the Lord’s anointed, the taking of the name of God in vain, and every other unholy and impure practice; and cause these to be received by covenant.
Instruct Peter, James, and John further to clothe Adam and his posterity in the robes of the holy priesthood, with the robe on the left shoulder, and to give unto them the second token of the Aaronic priesthood, with its accompanying name, sign, and penalty. Then have them return and bring me word.
THE ROBES OF THE AARONIC PRIESTHOOD
PETER: We are instructed to clothe you in the robes of the holy priesthood.
Place the robe on your left shoulder. Place the cap on your head with the bow over the right ear. Replace the apron. Tie the girdle with the bow on the right side. Remove the slippers from your feet, and put them on again as part of the temple clothing. You may now proceed to clothe.
THE ROBES OF THE MELCHIZEDEK PRIESTHOOD
[Peter, James, and John return to the World Room.]
PETER: We are instructed to have you change the robe to the right shoulder, preparatory to officiating in the ordinances of the Melchizedek priesthood, and to introduce you into the Terrestrial world.
You may now make the change by removing the robe.
[The initiates change the robe to the right shoulder. The male patrons now turn their cap, so that the bow is now placed over the left ear, and the girdle is tied on the left side. The patrons then sit.]”
Numbers 15:38-41; “Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: 39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: 40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. 41 I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.”
The Mormon references above are excerpts from the LDS temple ceremony depicting the use of temple robes as well as the other regalia.
Sadly you’ll see no biblical reference in their re-enactment of the creation or a biblical reference of the Lord’s interaction with man after He created them. Part of the re-enactment includes demeaning God’s Christian pastors. In their zeal to “prove” they’re the true church, they take time out of their precious day to dog on others in a “sacred” ceremony.
Where can the Lord find rest for Himself in this temple or the rituals?
Where in this ritual does it glorify God?
What does this ritual mean spiritually? Other than shrouding the Lord’s gospel in a cloak of secrecy what can this ritual provide for mankind?
Where in the Bible does it say we need to take “sacred” oaths performed behind walls and doors that are essentially locked to outsiders?
Where is this robe signifying the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood? And what purpose does switching the robe from the left shoulder to the right shoulder serve other than to keep the Mormon’s mind busy with unbiblical rituals? Why does this sacred ceremony sound like the combined child games of hokey-pokey, red light-green light and Simon Says?
