Journal of Discourses 12:44, 46; “Notwithstanding, the disciples of Jesus, excepting John the Revelator, suffered ignominious deaths, they sowed the seed of the Gospel among, and conferred the Priesthood upon men, which remained for several generations upon the earth, but the time came when Paganism was engrafted into Christianity, and at last Christianity was converted into Paganism…
Let’s take a look at the first part of this sermon by Joseph F. Smith and see how it lines up with what God’s word tells us!
1. The apostles did not confer any priesthood upon men.
2. Paganism has not been part of true Christianity at any time – ever. While there have always been false teachers trying to impose their agendas into Christianity (i.e. Mormonism), true belief in the God of the Universe and in His word has always stayed the same.
…He [God] had to call one man to this office, who afterwards, as Jesus did, called and set apart twelve others, together with Seventies…that all may come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to the fulness of the measure of the stature of Christ Jesus; that we might come to a oneness in the knowledge of the truth, that the world might be leavened with the leaven of truth, that all mankind might have the privilege of hearing the Gospel and of being gathered into the fold and family of Christ.” – Joseph F. Smith, Logan, Utah, February 6, 1881
3. God didn’t have to call on anyone after Jesus! Jesus came to fulfill the Law and with the advent of His doing so, He said; “It is finished” – John 19:30. The Holy Spirit is God’s promise to us that He’d never leave or forsake us and He resides inside each believer some 2,000 years since.
4. We as believers have already come to the “fullness of knowledge” about Jesus through God’s word! 1 Peter is a great study in knowing and understanding how we can know Jesus Christ and why!!
5. Leaven. In the Bible leaven is always referred to as sin. Why in the world would anyone say they hope we might come to a oneness with the leaven of truth?? Since when is truth a sin?
Paul told us in 1 Cor. 5:6-8 that even a little bragging isn’t good so throw it out! Jesus warmed us about the leaven of the Pharisees which is hypocrisy in Luke 12:1 and how it can spread. And again Paul warns us about the dangers of leaven and what it can do to a whole “lump” in Galatians 5:9.
The Mormons believe leaven is a good thing because of what their misguided teachers have told them and because they’ve not taken enough responsibility to pick up their own Bibles and read about Passover!
They like watching Charleton Heston’s rendition of the Ten Commandments on the television, but never stop to see what was going on with the first born sons who were dying before the Israelites fled Egypt!
