This morning (Friday, May 17, 2013) the Mormon prophet (Thomas Monson) lost his wife after 64+ years of marriage. Frances Beverly Johnson Monson passed away in Salt Lake City.

As Christians let us remember to keep her husband in prayer and during the grieving process he most certainly will go through, pray that he comes to know the Lord!  Everyone has the opportunity to be saved!  Romans 10:9; “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

You can read more about her story in the Deseret News Article here.

With Love in Christ;

The Burned Over District & the Book of Mormon

Camp revival meetingsIn early nineteenth century America a call for repentance swept across the country via the body of Christ just as it did some fifty years earlier with the First Great Awakening. It became obvious to many in the young fledgling country the Lord wanted their attention as growing pains kicked in to move west and heretical teachings of Universalism began permeating pulpits and the nation’s top-notched universities like Yale.

Ready or not – here it goes.

The Church changed, er, make that updated, its scripture…again.

Apparently they felt it was time to come out with a new contemporary explanation about race and polygamy. You can witness the changes for yourself on their site.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported the change “includes hundreds of minor spelling and punctuation changes to the holy script, as well as more substantive (though subtle) alterations of chapter headings, study helps and historical descriptions.

The history of Mormonism in America is a complicated one. Uninvited visits from young men on bicycles wearing white shirts and ties aren’t what citizens of the mid-nineteenth century experienced.

On the heels of the American Revolution came a young man with big plans and a big imagination to match. His ideas of a new god and religion were given birth to and then encouraged by parents with their own god who was a mix of American Folk Religion, the occult and the Bible.

Porter RockwellNot long ago I came across a drawing and a report written by a fourth grader about Porter Rockwell.

In 1997 the Utah Board of Education and BYU Public School Partnership banded together to form Heritage Gateways, the official sesquicentennial celebration of the famed Mormon Pioneer exodus to Utah.

The schools gathered drawings and reports from K-12 grade students statewide describing the events and people involved in the original trek west in 1847. The site that hosts this has historical diaries, excerpts from books, articles, and maps, etc.

Study, Research, Investigate!

I wish I had kept track of the number of times Mormons have written in to tell us that we’re wrong about the Book of Mormon.

The number one thing they all have in common is their lack of research and study time they’ve spent in their “standard works” – the Book of Mormon, D&C, and Pearl of Great Price, oh yeah and the Bible.  I pray they will spend at least half the time looking into the Book of Mormon that they spend putting down the Bible.  I’m convinced if this happened they’d get saved!  Funny thing about the Mormon people – they’re super intelligent, but don’t want to believe they could be wrong.  Their spiritual condition brought Paul’s words to life for me while studying Ephesians 6:12.

stickman thinking 3Today I’m wondering if the LDS Church is truly a Christian church then why do they have to dedicate an entire website and money on a PR campaign advertising how members can show compassion and love towards the gay Mormon community… http://www.mormonsandgays.org/

While pastors worldwide deliver sermons every week to their congregations on what God says about the human condition, I wonder why they’ve had to address this one subject matter.

Wouldn’t compassion and love for other humans be a natural response of those who are filled with the Holy Spirit? As Christians we’re not living to find happiness as Mormon leaders erroneously teach their congregants. Rather, the body of Christ lives to please God and our end focus is to have our minds stayed upon Him.

With the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit working inside of the believer our instincts will be to have compassion and mercy on everyone.

Why do they seem to be running in circles trying to explain to outsiders what they’re doing?  I guess that Prop 8 agenda they spent millions on is coming back to haunt them now.

Interestingly enough on their website on Moral Issues within the Church, they’ve openly stated sex is essential to God’s plan of salvation – the only stipulation is with whom you’re have sexual relations with. http://www.lds.org/handbook/handbook-2-administering-the-church/selected-church-policies?lang=eng#21.4.8

Wanted Posters of Utah

Today while cleaning out my computer files I came across a wanted poster of the Mormon prophet John Taylor and his trusty sidekick George Cannon. This reminded me of my own notorious family member Butch Cassidy and one of his wanted posters I have sitting in a box of other family photos.

Mormonism and Jainism Compared

I read with interest today of another media campaign launched by the LDS Church this holiday season. Their objective? To show people that they’re Christians, they participate in Christmastime activities and believe in Jesus.  http://www.lds.org/church/news/mormonorg-christmas-initiative-launches-online-and-in-nyc?lang=eng

Franklin Graham: Mormonism Never to be Called a Cult Again

I just read yet another article about Franklin Graham and his attitude with Mormonism.

This time I posted a comment on the Christian News website who had published an article on Mr. Graham’s feelings on Mormonism.  Here’s what I posted:

Tithing Slips

A couple of times a year my pastor delivers his sermon on the fiscal health of our congregation. These typically take place in late October/early November to remind us of goals we wanted to achieve by the end of the year. The other sermon always comes with the New Year thanking the Lord for His provision and reminding us to set new goals.

This year my church needed a new roof and some serious repairs elsewhere to our building so the costs were pretty hefty and as expected the pastor reminded us a couple of weeks ago of our needs as a congregation.

A Response to Melissa’s Article

This morning I woke up to see that Melissa’s article has ruffled a few feathers.  The site that took issue with her article is Mormon Apologetics Research Studies. You can read their review here:

http://mormonapologeticstudies.org/2012/10/07/a-message-some-christians-wouldnt-hear-at-general-conference/

Now one of the authors for that site is a gentleman by the name of Timothy Berman who by the way has visited this site a few times and well, he got banned from posting because of his comments.

When you read the responses you’ll see why Melissa wrote the article.  Melissa’s article is here:

Mormonism and Christianity

While I was cruising around the net for some research this evening I came across an article written in the 1984 edition of Ensign.

I find talks and articles like this one very telling about the Church. While the Church tries hard to fit in with the body of Christ, there’s still this little problem of false teachings. And the first false teaching of Mormonism began in the grove of trees with Joseph Smith and some spirit who told him there wasn’t one single person on the face of the earth that was following God.

UGANDA: Beware; the Mormons are Lying to You!!

I came across an article in the New York Times today written by Josh Kron which I found to be very enlightening indeed.  I thank Mr. Kron for his well written article that gave fantastic insight to the daily life for a Mormon missionary and I highly recommend you take a few minutes of your day to read it for yourself.

Racist Mormon Toys

I received an e-mail from a Christian friend of mine earlier this week pointing out something very disturbing in the world of Mormon toys. (Thank you Rebecca!)

A company by the name of Latter*Day Designs sells action figures depicting characters from the Book of Mormon.  One set of these toys includes 33 action figures that can be purchased with a special carrying case they’ve named “My Book of Mormon Heroes”.

“First Presidency Message; Why Do We Need Prophets?”

Amos 3:7; “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”

One of the most precious things I’ve had happen to me since my salvation is learning how to read my Bible. Not that I was illiterate before then, but as a Mormon no one had come alongside to teach me how to utilize my Bible for everyday life. As I watched and listened to the Christians at my new church open the word of God, I soon realized they were using it for everything they did in life.

Why Mormons leave the Church

This week is shaping up to be an eye-opening experience for Mormons and ex-Mormons alike.

In the Salt Lake Tribune Peggy Fletcher Stack reported that people are leaving the Church when they get on the internet.  I say thank you Lord for the internet!
