November 13 – Hebrews 7:1-4; ‘For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.’

Jesus Died for Man’s Sins
Discourses of Wilford Woodruff, pg. 3; “THE MISSION OF CHRIST. The Savior came and tabernacled in the flesh, and entered upon the duties of the priesthood at thirty years of age. After laboring three and a half years he was crucified and put to death in fulfilment of certain predictions concerning him. He laid down his life as a sacrifice for sin, to redeem the world.”

August 20 – Exodus 6:4, 6; “And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers. Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments…”

Abrahamic Covenant is a Dilemma for the Mormon Church
The dilemma this time is something I wish every single Mormon knew about. It’s imperative as a Christian to know who Abraham was. Who was he, where did he live, why did God like him, when did he live, and what significance does his life story play in Christianity, why do I need to know? What is the Abrahamic Covenant? What does it mean for me as a Christian today?

Who Voided the Atonement of Christ?
We received an e-mail from a member of the LDS Church who felt compelled to reply to our online newsletter he received last week. I thought it was important to share this with our readers for two reasons. First, to show the mindset of the Mormon and secondly, to ask the Mormon some serious questions.

February 27 – “Neither is salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
_____
AMEN! We must ask the Mormon what the phrase “none other name” means to them.
_____
“Some have said that I was very presumptuous to say that Brother Brigham was my God and Saviour, Brother Joseph was his God and the one that gave Joseph the keys of the kingdom was his God which was Peter. Jesus Christ was his God and (the) Father of Jesus Christ was Adam.” Journal of Wilford Woodruff, April 10, 1852.

February 8 – “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days;” Col. 2:16
_____
When Jesus came to earth, He was the fulfillment of the Law. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. If you’re truly saved, your outward behavior is a manifestation of your inner conversion, thus negating the need for more laws to follow. Obeying the ordinances of man doesn’t bring honor to God.
_____
“Three types of things are prohibited to man by the Word of Wisdom—tobacco, strong drinks, and hot drinks…through the cleanliness resulting from keeping this law of health, and by ‘walking in obedience to the commandment’, the saints will qualify for the companionship of the Holy Spirit…” Mormon Doctrine, pgs. 845-847

January 23 – The Promise. God explicitly told Abraham that the promise of his seed would come through the lineage of Isaac. Gen. 17:19; “And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant and with his seed after him”.
_____
Ishmael is a sign of the works we try to accomplish through our fleshy ways. Isaac was a sign of the miraculous works God can perform despite us. Let us not be confused who was who.
_____
Mormons are led to believe through Joseph Smith’s prophecies in the Doctrine and Covenants that the promises sprang from Hagar and her seed. In section 132:34 it says; “God commanded Abraham, and Sarah gave Hagar to Abraham to wife. And why did she do it? Because this was the law; and from Hagar sprang many people. This, therefore, was fulfilling, among other things, the promises”.
