Isaiah 40:25 “To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.”

In August 2016 I was searching around for info on a speech by Melvin J. Ballard, when I came upon a  very interesting online publication called Mormonism Against Itself, written by a fellow by the name of Maurice Barnett.

The book was a compilation of dozens of Mormon documents that are now out of print, or hard to find. One of the items I read in Mr. Barnett’s compilation was a handout for a ward teacher’s lesson from 1922. While I am fully aware this sounds mundane, when you glance over this, one will discover how the Church knew no bounds when trying to pull the wool over the eyes of its followers. And surprisingly (or maybe not), they’re still banking on the same doctrines they did way back when.

They obviously felt no shame when referring to Joseph Smith as a redeemer, nor did they bother with publishing biblically sound materials. The content for their comparison of Jesus and Joseph was so outlandish, I’m still left without words to describe how awful it is!

July 22 — Heaven’s Gatekeeper. Journal of Discourses 7:289 “…no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith. From the day that the Priesthood was taken from the earth to the winding-up scene of all things, every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are—I with you and you with me. I cannot go there without his consent. He holds the keys of that kingdom for the last dispensation—the keys to rule in the spirit-world; and he rules there triumphantly…” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, October 9, 1859 (more…)

July 14 — Stick of Judah, Stick of Ephraim. Mormon Doctrine, p. 535 “Ezekiel, in foretelling the preparation and coming forth of the Book of Mormon, called it the stick of Ephraim, and the stick of Joseph in the hand of Ephraim. In similar imagery he called the Bible the stick of Judah. The promise was that these two records would become one stick in the Lord’s hand in the day of the gathering of Israel. (Ezek. 37:15-28.)” (more…)

June 24 — Where are the Golden Plates? Mormon Doctrine, p. 234 “Moroni deposited the plates in the Hill Cumorah in about 421 A.D., and then as a resurrected being revealed the hiding place to the Prophet on September 22, 1823.

Four years later the Prophet was permitted to obtain possession of them, but the actual translation of the portion we now have as the Book of Mormon did not take place until between April 7 and June 11, 1829.

Thereafter the plates were returned to the custody of Moroni. (Jos. Smith 2:27-65; D. & C. 27:5; Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, pp. 215-226.” (more…)

God warns us about false prophets in Deut. 13:6-9 “If thy brother, the son of they mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou has no known, thou, nor thy father; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him…”

September 19 – Lessons of the Transfiguration. Matthew 17:1-5 “And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.  And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.  Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.  While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” (more…)

Acts 2:1-4; “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

What’s the cost of observing Pentecost?

Imagine being a self-proclaimed Christian, and yet not knowing about most of the Jewish holidays, or the Christian holidays/observances listed in the Bible.

That scenario is reality for the majority of Mormons who’ve been strictly taught what they must do to be saved, and what church authorized books they can read.

I grew up in Utah Mormonism totally clueless about biblical events such as Good Friday, Pentecost, Passover, etc. Sadly, given my experience, I wasn’t alone.

I had never learned how God had mandated His chosen people, the Israelites, to attend seven feasts and festivals at specific times throughout the year, let alone knowing that each carried a specific meaning.

This is the crux of the many problems Mormon people face each day. They’re kept so busy with a laundry list of meaningless man-made rules, it leaves little time in the day to think of other things.

In short, those busy things serve as the answer to the title of our article today.
