French and the Book of Mormon

The French word ‘adieu’ is used at the end of the book of Jacob.

This time frame is inconsistent with when French became a language circa 700 AD.  The end of the book of Jacob supposedly took place between 544 and 421 BC.

Familiar Spirits

Gospel Doctrine, pg. 435; We are told by the Prophet Joseph Smith, that “there are no angels who minister to this earth but those who do belong or have belonged to it.” Hence, when messengers are sent to minister to the inhabitants of this earth, they are not strangers, but from the ranks of our kindred, friends, and fellow-beings and fellow-servants. The ancient prophets who died were those who came to visit their fellow creatures upon the earth.

Polygamy and Mormon Church Leaders 5

Lorenzo Snow 1814-1901

Teachings of Lorenzo Snow, p. 155-160; “Pay a full tithing. The time has now come for every Latter-day Saint, who calculates to be prepared for the future and to hold his feet strong upon a proper foundation…I pray that every man, woman, and child who has means shall pay one-tenth of their income as a tithing…Our enemies are upon our path…

Polygamy and Mormon Church Leaders

Wilford Woodruff 1807-1898

Journal of Discourses 13:166; “If we were to do away with polygamy, it would only be one feather in the bird, one ordinance in the Church and kingdom. Do away with that, then we must do away with prophets and Apostles, with revelation and the gifts and graces of the Gospel, and finally give up our religion altogether and turn sectarians and do as the world does, then all would be right. We just can’t do that, for God has commanded us to build up His kingdom and to bear our testimony to the nations of the earth, and we are going to do it, come life or come death.” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, December 12, 1869

Language Problems in the Book of Mormon

This time around we’re looking at the false prophecy of Joseph Smith when he emphatically declared and proclaimed that there were no Greek or Latin words on the plates from where he got the information to produce the Book of Mormon.

“For He shall save His people from their sins”.

Why Mormonism is NOT Christian

salt lake mormon temple 2Yesterday I received an e-mail from a Mormon asking me why I teach that Mormons are not Christians.  Here’s a copy of his note:

“I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am not here to bash but curious about your website and why ex members leave the LDS faith. One thing that I did read that is false on your website that I would recommend changing is section titled “Mormon Neighbors Witnessing”. It stats that we are not Christians. This is absolutely false. Our Church is the called “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints”. We believe in God the Eternal Father and in his Son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost. We do believe in Prophets, Joseph Smith was a prophet and so was Adam, Noah and Abraham just to name a few from the Bible. The most important aspect is we are Christians and we believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and yours.

He is the Savior and redeemer of the whole world. We are known as Mormons because of the Book of Mormon. We believe the Bible is the word of God. Do you really believe that we are not Christians and that we don’t believe in Jesus Christ?”  Ryan

“Jesus was married?!”

That was part of a conversation I had with a temple worthy Mormon just a few months ago.  She explained to me that her son was being taught the LDS doctrine of Jesus being married.  It was the catalyst to bringing them out of the Church and accepting the real Jesus of the Bible.

Polygamy and Mormon Church Leaders

John Taylor

Life of John Taylor, pg. 255; “In this our first issue it may be expected that something would be said in relation to this matter. This we undertake as cheerfully as any other task; for we are not ashamed here in this great metropolis of America * * * to declare that we are polygamists.” – B.H. Roberts

Yesterday, Brian David Mitchell was sentenced to life in prison for the abduction and rape of Elizabeth Smart in 2002.   Let me make it perfectly clear before I begin here; I cannot condone anything Mitchell did to Elizabeth Smart.  I can’t imagine the horror she must have lived through day in and day out for nine months.

Christians and the body of Christ

The Mormon Church has gone out of its way in the past two decades to ensure the message gets out they want to be known as a Christian church.  The top-notch commercials on television and the appearance of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on various stations are nothing short of brilliant in the advertising venue.

THE 8th ARTICLE OF FAITH: THE “BAIT AND SWITCH” OF THE MORMON CHURCH

Did you know that Mormon missionaries are instructed to give you a bible when they visit your home?  The Mormon Church has 13 key beliefs that it describes as their Articles of Faith. One of those is the 8th Article of Faith that reads: “We believe the Bible to be the word of God insofar as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.”

Another End of the World Prophecy Gone Bad

Only the good Lord knows and has kept track of all the doomsday prophets of this world.  There was Jim Jones in the ’70’s and Harold Camping today.  According to Time Magazine, Camping predicted the world would end yesterday, May 22, 2011.  It’s a good thing he was wrong because I was attending our neighbor’s wedding when the supposed end was predicted!

It is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men:

You may not know it, but the phrase above comes from the inspired writings of Doctrine and Covenants. You will find that line of scripture in D&C 3:3.  It reads once again, “It is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men.”

PRE-EXISTENCE DOCTRINE

In John 3:1-15 we read Jesus saying: “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”  LDS doctrine of the pre-existence creates a number of dilemmas in light of this teaching:

I Am a Child of God

The words from this Mormon children’s song still rings in my ears at times; some 40 years later no less.  My kids have never heard it and I look at it as one of those things in life that obviously won’t be passed on down to the next generation.

I have a long list of things that won’t be passed down just as all ex-Mormons do.  Songs, clothing choices, dietary laws, genealogy work, books, et al; all the traditions I deemed important at one time in my life are now as rubbish as the Apostle Paul so eloquently said almost 2,000 years ago.  Philippians 3:7-8; (more…)

Jehovah

Mormon Doctrine, pg. 392; Christ is Jehovah; they are one and the same Person. The word Jehovah itself is the anglicized form of the Hebrew Yahweh, which refers to the God of Israel. To Abraham the Lord said: “I am the Lord thy God. … My name is Jehovah.” (Abra. 2:7-8.) Later he revealed himself to Moses and others by the same name. (Inspired Version, Ex. 6:3; Ps. 83:18; Isa. 12:2.) In general, in the King James version of the Bible, the name Jehovah has been translated Lord.

David Unsaved for Murder

Discourses of Joseph Smith, pg. 62-63; “A murderer, for instance, one that sheds innocent blood, cannot have forgiveness. David sought repentance at the hand of God carefully with tears for the murder of Uriah, but he could only get it through hell: he got a promise that his soul should not be left in hell.  Although David was a king, he never did obtain the spirit and power of Elijah and the fulness of the priesthood; and the priesthood that he received, and the throne and kingdom of David is to be taken from him and given to another by the name of David in the last days, raised up out of his lineage.

Polygamy and Mormon Church Leaders

Brigham Young

1801-1877

We thought it might be of interest to those studying Mormonism to get a small glimpse of what the home life of Church leaders may have looked like in the infancy stages of  Mormonism.  I’ve written a lot about the polygamy issue throughout the years, but have never compiled a concise list of the early prophets of Mormonism and their godless way of life.

Word Studies with the Mormon

Don’t take our word for it, what does the Bible say?

The first thing to keep in mind when witnessing is your heart. Where is it at in regards to this Mormon person? You will never ‘win’ the argument with them by ‘proving’ that they’re wrong. Your proof was shown in His resurrection. It really happened, i.e., credible eyewitness accounts.
