False Prophecies of Joseph Smith; the Grease spot prophecy
Millennial Star, Vol. 22, No. 29, (July 21, 1860), pg. 455; “I prophesied by virtue of the holy Priesthood vested in me, and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that, if Congress will not hear our petition and grant us protection, they shall be broken up as a government and God shall damn them, and there shall be nothing left of them – not even a grease spot!“.
2 Timothy 2:25-26; “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”
That prophecy was actually made in December of 1843. It has been 167 years since he made that claim and here we still are in 2011 putzin’ right along.
True, but he never gave a time limit did he. He just said it would happen.
Also, he does not specify that he is speaking of the institution or of the group that currently held the offices. As the Whig Party held a majority in the Senate, and a large minority in the House when Joseph Smith made this prophecy, it can be reasonably argued that the downfall of the Whig Party by the 1850’s has fulfilled it.
