Sons and Daughters of God
This is why it’s important to follow the Bible and the Bible only. God’s all important words that we shouldn’t accept other gospels is never more true than with this scenario. I was raised to believe I was a begotten daughter of God. I sang the Mormon Primary song “I am a child of God” each week during the years of growing up and I can still hear the tune of this song in my head today. The truth though is that this song, along with the basic tenets of this subject, are a lie from the pit of hell.
We cannot be children of God up and until we’ve accepted His Son as our Savior and God. We must believe God sent Jesus to die for our sins and through that act of faith we become adopted into the family of God.
Moroni 7:48; “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen.”
D&C 76:24; “That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God.”
Ensign, May 2006, pg. 106; “Your light has made a difference to me and many others. You have light because you are literally spirit daughters of Deity, “offspring of exalted parents” with a divine nature and an eternal destiny. You received your first lessons in the world of spirits from your heavenly parents. You have been sent to earth to “prove” yourselves.” – Julie Beck
Journal of Discourses 4:216; “There is not a person here to-day but what is a son or a daughter of that Being. In the spirit world their spirits were first begotten and brought forth, and they lived there with their parents for ages before they came here. This, perhaps, is hard for many to believe, but it is the greatest nonsense in the world not to believe it. If you do not believe it, cease to call Him Father; and when you pray, pray to some other character.” – Brigham Young, February 8, 1857
Galatians 3:29; “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
John 1:12-13; “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
