Salvation by What?
2 Nephi 10:24; “24 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved.”
2 Nephi 25:23; “23 For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.”
Psalms 5:8-9; “Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. 9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.”
Ephesians 2:8-9; “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
So which is it; grace or works? The confusing words in the Book of Mormon are how they keep people in a state of confusion and doubt. I used to believe it was my fault I didn’t understand what the Mormon scriptures said.
After I left I realized that fog of confusion was Satan’s way of keeping me bound in the web of lies. I didn’t want to leave my heritage, but I wanted to know more of what Jesus had to say. Countless hours were spent searching the pages in my Book of Mormon, alas, to my surprise the only place I could find Him was in the Bible.
God’s word became my refuge in the dark days of Mormonism. It was there I found that He healed the hemorrhaging woman, raised Lazarus and rescued Peter from drowning. I found myself wondering what it’d be like to walk beside Him from village to village and pictured myself sitting amongst the throngs of those who listened to Him on the hillside in Caesarea.
The detailed stories pulled me in and His words of how He loves me kept me there. The main thing I noticed is that the stories didn’t change. The promises stayed the same and words of one apostle or prophet didn’t contradict the other that wrote either before or after him.
Share these things with the Mormon in your life and ask them what they think of your findings.
