Sun & Moon Inhabited

Journal of Discourses 13:271 “Who can tell us of the inhabitants of this little planet that shines of an evening, called the Moon? … So it is with regard to the inhabitants of the Sun. Do you not think it is inhabited? I rather think it is. Do you think there is any life there? No Question of it; it was not made in vain.”Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, July 24, 1870

Racist Mormon Toys Update

Congrats!  You did it!!!  I thought I’d give an update on the Racist Mormon Toys.  Today I was informed those toys have been removed from the list of available products to purchase from Latter-Day Designs.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to e-mail the company and tell them you didn’t approve of their racist products.  It just goes to show you what we can do as a society when we stand up and speak out!  If you see other things like this that need attention don’t hesitate to let me know and we’ll do what we can.  Thanks Rebecca, Salt Lake Tribune and Indian Country Newspaper!

With Love in Christ, Michelle Grim

Defending Joseph Smith

Thinking back to all the years I was totally devoted to Joseph Smith and then to the years I began questioning reminded me of how ambiguous I was before I accepted the truth.  Leaving Mormonism isn’t easy for anyone.

Many times jobs, homes and families are lost or ripped apart when we follow Jesus exclusively, but the rewards far outweigh the temporal losses and are minute in comparison to what we’ve gained not only eternally, but for the here and now.

April 9 – Hebrews 5:4; Ex. 28:1; 40:13-16; “And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.”

“And take unto thee Aaron they brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.”

Adam and Eve Had No Blood

Note: As seen below, I obviously had a typo for this. Yikes! Instead of stating it came from the LDS Bible Dictionary, i mistakenly posted the URL.

Not surprising, when I saw this and tried to correct the error, I noticed the Church has since changed its content.

I’ve left it this way to show how the Church retro-engineers their writings in an effort to hide their past. If you click on the link below, it shows various references to Adam, but not the one they previously had on their site which is listed below in our original topic.

http://scriptures.lds.org/bd/f/2; Before the fall, Adam and Eve had physical bodies but no blood. There was no sin, no death, and no children among any of the earthly creations. With the eating of the “forbidden fruit,” Adam and Eve became mortal, sin entered, blood formed in their bodies, and death became a part of life. Adam became the “first flesh” upon the earth (Moses 3: 7), meaning that he and Eve were the first to become mortal. After Adam fell, the whole creation fell and became mortal. Adam’s fall brought both physical and spiritual death into the world upon all mankind (Hel. 14: 16-17).” – Bible Dictionary of the LDS Church

Good Friday

Today I thought I’d remind the Christian community there is no recognition or observance of Good Friday in Mormonism. I remember as a child growing up in Utah I had three non-Mormon friends and on Good Friday they’d never be able to come out and play like they did the other days of Easter Break.  I don’t recall asking them why, but I do remember thinking they celebrated some strange day just before Easter they always called “Good Friday”.

Apostate Christianity

With the observation of the birth of Christianity just days away I thought we’d take a look back at one of our first “dilemmas”.  It’s always interested me why the Mormon Church would want to be included in the circle of Christianity when they’ve tried for years to separate themselves from it. Here’s what we wrote about it.

Conversion of the American Indian Peoples

D&C 3:3, 16-20, (1828); This passage in the Doctrine and Covenants is Joseph Smith’s prophecy that the Lamanites (Indian people) will all be saved.  This prophecy was given in July 1828.  In D&C 3:3 it says; “Remember, remember that it is not the work of God that is frustrated, but the work of men”. Here’s proof that this prophecy and work is of Joseph Smith and company and not God.  If God’s work cannot be frustrated then the Mormon god would’ve saved these people by now. It’s been 183 years since that prophecy and the Lamanites haven’t been saved, and the majority of those who do convert leave Mormonism within a year after conversion.  See www.cumorah.com for statistical facts on retention rates in South and Central America.

Ordinances

“In the Church, an ordinance is a sacred, formal act performed by the authority of the priesthood. Some ordinances are essential to our exaltation. These ordinances are called saving ordinances. They include baptism, confirmation, ordination to the Melchizedek Priesthood (for men), the temple endowment, and the marriage sealing. With each of these ordinances, we enter into solemn covenants with the Lord.”

General Conference April 2012

No Ordinary Blessing

Every faithful Mormon waits with bated breath to hear what message the men who they view as prophets, seers, and revelators of God, might have for them that day. I can’t tell you what a thrill they get to hear these men speak, as they hang on every word spoken.

Racist Mormon Toys

I received an e-mail from a Christian friend of mine earlier this week pointing out something very disturbing in the world of Mormon toys. (Thank you Rebecca!)

A company by the name of Latter*Day Designs sells action figures depicting characters from the Book of Mormon.  One set of these toys includes 33 action figures that can be purchased with a special carrying case they’ve named “My Book of Mormon Heroes”.

Jesus’ Bride, the Body of Christ, and the Cross

Mormon Doctrine, pp. 314-315 (1958) “Harlots. See Church of the Devil, Sex Immorality. Literally an harlot is a prostitute; figuratively it is any apostate church. Nephi, speaking of harlots in the literal sense and while giving a prophetic description of the Catholic Church, recorded that he ‘saw the devil that he was the foundation of it.’ … Then speaking of harlots in the figurative sense, he designated the Catholic Church as ‘the mother of harlots’ (1 Nephi 13:34; 14:15-17), a title which means that the protestant churches, the harlot daughters which broke off from the great and abominable church, would themselves be apostate churches.” – Bruce R. McConkie

Another Thought of the Day about Mormonism…

Melissa sent me a link to a Youtube video that I believe is really important to share with our readers.  Beware, there’s a lot of bleeping out on this one.

This video is a Christian ministry who went to the Mormon General Conference this past weekend (April 1, 2012) to ask Mormons a few questions. We don’t know the names of these Mormons and while I realize their attitude is less than stellar, we’re asking you to pray for them anyway!  Just think of how icky it must be in his heart to have words like this come so quickly out of his mouth. It’s indicative of what’s going on inside.

Creation

Why doesn’t the Book of Mormon contain the teaching that more than one god created the earth if it supposedly contains “the fullness of the gospel”?

Abraham 4:1; “And then the Lord said: Let us go down. And they went down at the beginning, and they, that is the Gods, organized and formed the heavens and the earth.”

Freethinkers

An Insider’s View of Mormon Origins, 2003 by Grant Palmer

http://signaturebooks.com/2010/11/excerpt-an-insiders-view-of-mormon-origins/

“I admire men and women who have developed the questing spirit, who are unafraid of new ideas as stepping stones to progress. We should, of course, respect the opinions of others, but we should also be unafraid to dissent–if we are informed. Thoughts and expressions compete in the marketplace of thought, and in that competition truth emerges triumphant. Only error fears freedom of expression … This free exchange of ideas is not to be deplored as long as men and women remain humble and teachable. Neither fear of consequence or any kind of coercion should ever be used to secure uniformity of thought in the church. People should express their problems and opinions and be unafraid to think without fear of ill consequences. … We must preserve freedom of the mind in the church and resist all efforts to suppress it.” – “President Hugh B. Brown, a counselor in the LDS Presidency during the 1960’s:”

Joseph Smith a Lawyer

History of the Church 5:289-290; I am a lawyer; I am a big lawyer and comprehend heaven, earth and hell, to bring forth knowledge that shall cover up all lawyers, doctors and other big bodies. This is the doctrine of the Constitution, so help me God. The Constitution is not law to us, but it makes provision for us whereby we can make laws. Where it provides that no one shall be hindered from worshiping God according to his own conscience, is a law. No legislature can enact a law to prohibit it. The Constitution provides to regulate bodies of men and not individuals.”
