Our Worthiness Brings Us Strength

Coming to Ourselves: The Sacrament, the Temple, and Sacrifice in Service”, General Conference, Apr. 2012; “Worthiness to hold a temple recommend gives us the strength to keep our temple covenants. How do we personally gain that strength? We strive to obtain a testimony of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost, the reality of the Atonement, and the truthfulness of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the Restoration. We sustain our leaders, treat our families with kindness, stand as a witness of the Lord’s true Church, attend our Church meetings, honor our covenants, fulfill parental obligations, and live a virtuous life. You may say that sounds like just being a faithful Latter-day Saint! You are right. The standard for temple recommend holders is not too high for us to achieve. It is simply to faithfully live the gospel and follow the prophets.”—Elder Robert D. Hales

Brigham can Read Thoughts of the Heart & Enemies to Sink in Power

Journal of Discourses 10:40; “I say to the enemies of truth that I can tell them the words that are spoken in their private counsels. The very thoughts of their hearts are made known to me. They lay their plans to accomplish such and such a work in so long a time, and then plan a movement to destroy the “Mormons.”…Every time they make a movement against this kingdom they will sink still lower in the scale of national power, while the kingdom of God will rise…”

Comoros

The Comoros is a sovereign, archipelago island nation in the Indian Ocean located near the eastern coast of Africa.

As you can see on the map provided it consists of a town called Moroni which serves as the capital of the island nation.

Now what are the odds this is a coincidence?

From what historical records have shown throughout the writings of the Church, while Smith may have only had a third grade education and was horrible at spelling, he did have access to books.

Cumorah, Comoros, Moroni, Moroni…hmmm…I’m not buying into any story that defends Smith on this one.

Birth of Baptism

Mormons to be Thought of as Kings

Journal of Discourses 4:40-41; “In the days of Joseph it was considered a great privilege to be permitted to speak to a member of Congress, but twenty-six years will not pass away before the Elders of this Church will be as much thought of as the kings on their thrones.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, Aug 31, 1856

Atonement in the Book of Mormon

Isaiah 59:1-2; “Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

BoM foundation 1 Think about this for a moment.

Where would you be today if Jesus hadn’t saved you?

Would you be just like you are right now? (We hope not!) Would you be divorced, married, estranged from loved ones?

How about your personal disposition? How much worse off would you be? Are people able to see a marked difference in you since that time?

Mormon Heritage vs. God

The Strength of Our Heritage“, Liahona and Ensign, July 2012; “The prophets have warned us that the home is the place to save society. A proper home, of course, is not created automatically when a boy and girl fall in love and marry. It takes those same virtues that were taught in pioneer homes—faith, courage, discipline, and dedication—to make a marriage successful.” —L. Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Their History

One of my favorite blogs is Mormon History where you’ll find all kinds of good things! Knowing the real history of the Mormon Church will give you insight you never get from the Church itself.

Every day I receive an e-mail with a little notice of  what happened on “This day in Mormon history”. While perusing this awesome site I found one entry I thought would be insightful for my readers.  The following is a perfect example of what’s wrong with polygamy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the only reason why, but it just adds to the never ending pile of reasons.

False Prophecy of Parley Pratt

Today we’re highlighting a false prophecy by Parley Pratt. Who is Parley Pratt? Mr. Pratt was at one time Joseph Smith’s right hand, go to guy. He joined Mormonism in 1830 and became an apostle five years later.

Mr. Pratt was a polygamist with twelve wives, thirty children and 266 grandchildren. He was murdered in 1857 by Hector McLean. Pratt talked McLean’s wife into joining Mormonism and marrying him to become his twelfth wife. While details vary it’s believed McLean hunted Pratt down and killed him in revenge for ruining his family.

Jesus; Polygamist and Founder of Christianity

The Seer, pg. 172; “…the great Messiah who was the founder of the Christian religion, was a polygamist…marrying many honorable wives himself…God the Father had a plurality of wives…the Son followed the example of his Father…both God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ inherit their wives in eternity as well as in time.” – Orson Pratt, 1857

Astrology

While doing some research for an article we’re working on I came across an interesting piece of information in Mormon Doctrine written by Bruce McConkie who was a Mormon apostle. Now while many Mormons discount his encyclopedic work, the Church continues to sell his book and actually quote from it in articles and speeches.

The entry in Mormon Doctrine that caught my attention was on the subject of astrology. Interestingly enough the Church denounces the practice of astrology yet has many carvings on the outside of the Nauvoo and Salt Lake Temple of that very thing.

Book of Mormon Plagiarism

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times; I grew up loving my Book of Mormon. Being born and raised in an LDS family in Ogden, Utah came with the understanding you’d be learning all you could about Joseph Smith, Mormonism, and your Book of Mormon.

Exit story of Tanya W.

I wasn’t born into the Mormon Church; I was actually born and dedicated into a loving Christian church and family.  When I was 5 and my brother was 8 my Mother left my Dad for another man who was Mormon.  Because it wasn’t common practice in the 70’s for Dad’s to fight for custody we lived with our Mother.  I was baptized into the church when I was 8 and so was my Brother.  We thought that we were happier because of the church.  On the outside we were a very strong Mormon family.

The Personality of Your god

Journal of Discourses 2:346; “One world has a personal God or Father, and the inhabitants thereof worship the attributes of that God, another world has another, and they worship His attributes, and besides Him there is no other; and when they worship Him they are at the same time worshipping the same attributes that dwell in all the personal Gods who fill immensity.” – Orson Pratt, February 18, 1855, Salt Lake City

Thought of the Day about Mormonism and Book of Mormon Authors

1 Nephi 1:3; “And I know that the record which I make is true; and I make it with mine own hand; and I make it according to my knowledge.”

The focus of this verse is on the author. I was thinking about a statement my pastor made a few years back about the authors of the Bible.

He said that half the Old Testament never gives clues about authorship.

So while thinking about my pastor’s statement and reading this verse in the Book of Mormon it caused me to wonder…
