Sons & Daughters of God – Becoming or Begotten?
Moroni 7:48; “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen.”
D&C 76:24; “That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God.”
Galatians 4:1-6; “Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.”
Explain Moroni 7:48 to D&C 76:24. How can we be both?
The Bible tells us very clearly how we become children of God – it’s through adoption! We weren’t born through a sexual union between a god and his goddess wife before we came here. How could this be if we’re told that we aren’t God’s children until we’re adopted by Him?
Melissa wrote an article about this last year. Her description of how we’re adopted into God’s family and how she’s adopted two sons into her family gave us a beautiful real-life picture of how God sees us!
I feel so badly for the Mormon people when I see contradictory lessons in their scriptures like this one today. How can you ever keep things straight and not be confused all the time when things like this keep occurring? If this was the only time this happened in Mormon teachings it wouldn’t be so bad, however, it’s with every single topic in Mormonism!
Pray for the minds of Mormons to keep clear so they can be cognitive to pick up on things like this!
With Love in Christ;
