Kids not Born in Mormonism are Illegitimate
Journal of Discourses 17:145; “Now I want to say a few words to our young people who dwell in different part of the Territory. I have heard that some of them, perhaps through a want of understanding of the laws of God, have suffered themselves to be married by the civil law—for instance, by a justice of the peace, alderman or judge. That will do very well so far as the laws of the land are concerned, but has God anything to do with such marriages? Nothing at all. Has he ever authorized marriages to be solemnized after this order? Not at all. Are children born of such marriages your legal sons and daughters in the sight of heaven? Not at all; they are in one sense bastards.” – Orson Pratt, Salt Lake City, July 19, 1874
Deuteronomy 23:2; “A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.”
The Bible never says those not born in Mormonism are illegitimate. Nowhere does it say you have to be married by an LDS legal administrator, so when did God change the rules?
We’re born in the age of grace this side of the cross and while there’s something to be said about being a doer and not just a believer, this teaching of Orson Pratt’s is false!
