Scripture Authors
Journal of Discourses 5:329; “Adam, Seth, Enoch, Noah, all the Patriarchs and Prophets, Jesus and the Apostles, and every man that has ever written the word of the Lord, have written the same doctrine upon the same subject; and you never can find that Prophets and Apostles clashed in their doctrines in ancient days: neither will they now, if all would at all times be led by the Spirit of salvation.” – Brigham Young, Observations made in the Bowery, October 7, 1857
Exodus 24:4; “And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.”
2 Peter 3:15-16; “And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
Jeremiah 1:9; “Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.”
1 Cor. 2:13; “Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”
Galatians 1:11; “But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.”
2 Samuel 23:2; “The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.”
1 Samuel 3:1; “And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.”
Acts 24:14; “But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets.”
Revelation 1:11a; “Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia…”
John 8:47; “He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.”
Okay so I gave more than a handful of examples of men who wrote down what God told them to! Hang with me for a minute here.
1. I could’ve given more examples from the inspired authors like Amos or Isaiah, but the point here is that neither Jesus, Adam, Seth nor Enoch and Noah authored any book in the Bible.
2. While it’s true none of the authors in the Bible contradicted each other, Joseph Smith and company took it upon themselves to contradict every single doctrine of God in their uninspired writings.
3. The last example in John’s gospel should give pause to those who reject the infallibility of God’s word.
4. Share with a Mormon how it is these people knew to write God’s words down to give them a demonstrative example. Explain that it didn’t come by chance or by looking into a hat to try and translate something – God is/was the one who did the translating for those who wrote His words down.
