Mormon Dilemma 694

Dead People in Mormon Temples

Journal of Discourses 19:229; “…before I left St. George, the spirits of the dead gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them. Said they, “You have had the use of the Endowment House for a number of years, and yet nothing has ever been done for us. We laid the foundation of the government you now enjoy, and we never apostatized from it, but we remained true to it and were faithful to God.” There were the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and they waited on me for two days and two nights…

The thought never entered my heart, from the fact…I straightway went into the baptismal font and called upon brother McCallister to baptize me for the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and fifty other eminent men, making one hundred in all, including John Wesley, Columbus, and others; I then baptized him for every President of the United States, except three; and when their cause is just, somebody will do the work for them.” – Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, September 16, 1877

1 Chronicles 10:13-14; “So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; 14 And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.”

1 Corinthians 10:21; “Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.”

1 Timothy 2:5; “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

Talking to dead people, being baptized for dead people and touching dead people in any way was and still is forbidden by God.  Why would this be okay to a man of God? Wouldn’t he know from the Bible this isn’t acceptable?

George Washington and many of the founding fathers were Deists, not Christians, so why would they entertain the idea that Mormonism would be okay?
