What? Are you kidding me? That was my first reaction when I read the headlines screaming across the page I read in the Salt Lake Trib.
As we write articles and share the gospel online and elsewhere this is one of the reasons we do what we do at LAM.
The body of Christ needs to wake up and pay attention. I’m not sure who it was that cast the final vote for the status of “National Bible City”, but we’re on our knees they’ll rescind their generous gift.
The article in the Trib said they bestowed the title upon the HQ of Mormonism because, after all they believe in the Bible – oh and the Church requested they be considered for the title.
Oh…my…goodness…
Perhaps they didn’t read all of the Church’s absolute disdain and animosity towards our Lord’s sacred work.
Answers to Gospel Questions 2:161; “”No Man Hath Seen God at Any Time”—a Mistranslation. No Bible student today believes that the Bible has come down to us in its perfect and original appearance in the manuscripts. Scribes left out words and phrases, just as we do at times in typing, missing one whole line and thus changing the meaning. Moreover, the scribes added or interpreted according to their own opinions at times. These things are quite generally understood. Therefore we find errors and contradictions in the Bible. There are too many passages which declare very definitely that God did appear, “face to face,” with his ancient servants. Therefore, passages which declare that no man has seen him, must be in error.” – Joseph Fielding Smith, Jr.
Or maybe they didn’t read the 8th Article of Faith stating they believe “in the Bible as far as it is translated correctly”.
Or maybe they didn’t read Joseph Smith’s version of the Bible which completely denigrates God, His Son and the Holy Spirit.
Or maybe they haven’t read in the Book of Mormon that it refers to the body of Christ as the whore of Babylon (1 Nephi 14:10), or that they believe Jesus was created and God had sex with Mary or that Jesus was a polygamist…
Please, I am begging all Christians to please pray enough people will see the National Bible Association’s news and say something to them. http://nationalbible.org/
Who makes up the National Bible Association? Sounds like they don’t do much investigation into the cities they bestow this title on. That’s too bad, but sadly not very surprising.
