Millennial Star, Vol. 57, No. 46, November 14, 1985, pg 739; “Now I would ask this congregation; I would ask all the Jews, the Catholics, the Protestants, I would ask the clergy of all nations: Can this mighty dispensation of which every prophet has spoken be fulfilled and can these great events transpire in the earth, without revelation from God? No, most assuredly not. God never gave … a greater dispensation than the one in which Joseph Smith was called and ordained of God to organize the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It required revelation. It will require it to the winding-up scene. Zion cannot be built up … nor can the nations of the earth be warned of the great judgments that are at the door without it.” – Wilford Woodruff
2 Timothy 2:24; “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient.”
The Hebrew word for strive is machomai. It means to quarrel, fight, war against.
Does Joseph Smith fit the description of how Paul defined a servant of God? From everything we’ve seen in his history the answer would have to be a resounding no! Smith came out of the gates swinging and his first target was the body of Christ. We find in his own testimony that his meeting with a spirit he called God told him everyone was wrong.
Secondly, why have they venerated this man so? They say that Zion couldn’t be built up, but darlin’ Zion was already amongst us! Zion is right here, right now. The earth has been warned of its wickedness! Jesus did that – He came to earth to die for sinners!
On this side of the cross there is no need for prophets to bring us a new word from God because Jesus fulfilled God’s promise. New Testament prophets that serve God today aren’t introducing new things and they’re certainly not contradicting what God has already revealed to us. Their job is to proclaim what is already revealed – their job is to confirm what people have read in His word is true!
Lastly, the greatest dispensation to trump all dispensations is the one Jesus lived in. He didn’t come to grab anyone’s spotlight, rather Jesus came to set us free and many rejected Him. Just as the Pharisees didn’t want their lifestyles changed nor did they want the limelight removed from their dispensation, Joseph Smith is guilty of the same – Romans 2:1.
