The object of our earthly existence is to love, honor and worship the Bridegroom! If we’re here vying for our own exaltation we’re nothing but a sorry bunch. To glorify God is my sole and yes soul’s desire! This isn’t about me or what I need or want, but Him and what He’s done.
Amy Carmichael used a phrase when she and others at her ministry were hitting roadblocks in their prayer life. She said they needed to be freed from their grave clothes.
That phrase caught my immediate attention when I thought of the many Mormon funerals I’ve attended in my life for family and friends. Their temple garments are clearly seen as they lie in their caskets dressed with a fig apron and veils about them.
Are we freed from our grave clothes? As Christians we’re set at liberty because of what He did for us so while here on earth our attention should reflect the freedom we have! The Mormon funerals have been a stark reminder for me of the unending work they did here and the dismal look of their future in eternity.
