They Knew the Prophet, p. 95; “[Recollection of Benjamin F. Johnson] He [Joseph Smith] taught us that God was the great head of human procreation, was really and truly the father of both our spirits and our bodies.” – Hyrum L. Andrus and Helen Mae Andrus, comps.
Galatians 4:4-7; “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
We are adopted by God as His children because of His great love for us. Imagine giving your child for someone or something because of your love for that cause.
I have to say I know I couldn’t/wouldn’t do it. I know all too well the pain of losing a child and it feels like a part of me died. I know that I’d die for the cause of Christianity, my husband, kids or friend, but giving my child – that’s another story altogether.
That’s how much God loves us my friend! He loves us enough to give His Son! It’s an amazing thought is it not? The problem with this lesson in Mormonism today is that Mormons can’t/won’t accept the fact that we’re not sons and daughters of God until we’re adopted.
Before we accepted God into our hearts we were citizens of another kingdom and it’s not the Kingdom of God, but is in fact the kingdom of darkness – Colossians 1:13. As Paul pointed out, we are filled with His Spirit because God sent forth the Spirit of His Son to live in us as believers.
God isn’t a magician who performed some hocus-pocus trick and God didn’t have to engage in a sexual act to place His Spirit inside of us. God is all powerful – omnipotent – and sent His Spirit to reside inside of us when we accept His Son as our God and Savior.
