Liahona, ‘Follow the Prophet’, April 2014; “As we follow President Monson and try to be more like him, we will inevitably succeed in being more faithful disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.” – Elder William Walker of the Seventy
Journal of Discourses 16:248; “We talk of obedience, but do we require any man or woman to ignorantly obey the counsels that are given? Do the First Presidency require it? No, never.” – Joseph F. Smith, Salt Lake City, October 7, 1873
Psalm 146:3; “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help”.
Many times throughout my day I find myself singing hymns to the Lord. They’re like private worship sessions I have with and for Him that always bring me closer to my sweet Jesus and cause me to want more of Him. Today’s hymn that keeps going through my head is ‘bless the Lord o my soul’.
The two opposing LDS teachings for today show how the mixed messages of Mormonism never end. They’re told they have ‘free agency’ and then told at a General Conference that if we act more like the prophet we’ll be like Christ. The title of Mr. Walker’s talk was “Follow the Prophet” which means ‘obey the counsels’ that prophet gives.
In my worship song today one of the lines says ‘worship His Holy Name’. I’m wondering…would they think that about Monson?
We know they do that for Smith in their hymn ‘Praise the Man’. Do the words of their hymn or the sermons they give point to God or man?
What purpose is there in calling yourself a Christian if you’re teaching things such as they did at General Conference this past weekend?
So true. We put our faith in a man and they will always let us down.
Every single time! It doesn’t matter how much you admire someone there will be something about him/her that will fall short. God is our only example as Christians!
