Ensign, ‘The Keystone of Our Religion’, January 2004; “…It [BoM] is a keystone for other reasons also. In the promise of Moroni previously referred to—namely, that God will manifest the truth of the Book of Mormon to every sincere inquirer having faith in Christ 4 —we have a key link in a self-locking chain.
A confirming testimony of the Book of Mormon convinces “that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God” 5 and also spiritually verifies the divine calling of Joseph Smith and that he did see the Father and the Son. With that firmly in place, it logically follows that one can also receive a verification that the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price are true companion scriptures to the Bible and the Book of Mormon.” – James Faust
Matthew 16:16-17; “And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”
Today’s dilemma is the second of three parts I’m using from James Faust’s speech that he gave back in 2004 about the Book of Mormon. His claim about their inspired canon was so outrageous I feel that it’s important for us to take a moment and look at what he said.
We posted part one on 4.13.2014 – Mormon Dilemma 912, BoM isn’t History.
In this part of his speech Mr. Faust is assuming that if God didn’t manifest to you that the BoM is from God then you’re not a sincere inquirer.
Really? How does he know if I’m a sincere enquirer? I laid everything I owned and knew in life on the line trying to prove to myself the BoM was from God and my conclusion led me to discover I was betraying Jesus.
He went on to explain how their fail proof system is in place through their ‘self-locking’ link which is actually nothing more than a ball and chain they’ve encumbered themselves with!
The Bible also tells us that His word is able to convict our hearts, negating the claims of this false apostle! Faust claimed that the BoM convinces people that Jesus is the Christ…
Hebrews 4:12; “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
If that wasn’t bad enough he also said being convinced the BoM is true also means you believe in Joseph Smith’s story of his first vision, oh and all the other false prophecies he wrote in Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price.
In this web of lies what’s a Mormon to do? At this stage in the game they’re told they have to believe in everything Smith has ever said. This isn’t about Jesus anymore; in fact you’d be hard pressed to see Jesus anywhere in this so-called canon.
So far Mr. Faust has said the Book of Mormon shouldn’t be relied upon as an historical work and only sincere people understand that Smith’s works are from God.
If you’re thinking it can’t get any worse…you’ll want to reserve your assessment on that until after you’ve seen the rest of his speech tomorrow.
