Mormon Dilemma 966 Devil Helps God Keep Men Straight

Journal of Discourses 23:336-337; “Why is it that good men should be tried? Why is it, in fact, that we should have a devil? Why did not the Lord kill him long ago? Because he could not do without him. He needed the devil and a great many of those who do his bidding just to keep men straight, that we may learn to place our dependence upon God, and trust in Him, and to observe his laws and keep his commandments. When he destroyed the inhabitants of the antediluvian world, he suffered a descendant of Cain to come through the flood in order that he might be properly represented upon the earth. And Satan keeps busy all the time, and he will until he is bound; and I expect they will then have good times until he is loose again.” – John Taylor, Grantsville, UT, October 29, 1882

Job 38:4; “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.”

Why would God need Satan to fulfill His plans? Does the Bible tell us this is so?  NO!

One of the most shocking things I learned when I left Mormonism and became a Christian was that God didn’t need me.  Based on LDS teachings this is heretical which is quite unfortunate.

If God needs you to help Him what’s going to happen for you in an emergency when you need God to intervene? Will He have to wait upon your neighbor or spouse to help Him with your situation?

We looked at this not long ago and discussed this type of teaching is dualism.
