Mormon Dilemma 982 Indians without Intelligence

Messenger and Advocate, vol. 1, July 1835, no. 10; “…and the land was left to the possession of the red men, who were without intelligence, only in the affairs of their wars; and having no records, only preserving their history by tradition from father to son, lost the account of their true origin, and wandered from river to river, from hill to hill, from mountain to mountain, and from sea to sea, till the land was again peopled, in a measure, by a rude, wild, revengeful, warlike and barbarous race. Such are our Indians”.

Galatians 3:27-29; “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Oh what I’d give to watch Smith, Cowdery or any of the other people who propagated this nonsense to say these things to an American Indian’s face. Or better yet, speak like this in front of God. I wonder what that scenario might look like… 

When I come across the absolute flagrantly, racist doctrines of these guys my mind is also filled with a few questions… 

1.If the Egyptians aren’t to have the priesthood because they’re not white then why do Mormons believe they’re from the line of Joseph of Egypt?

2.If the ‘red man’ (oh brother) has no intelligence then why does the Church spend so much money proselytizing them?

3.If Indians are subhuman then why do they extol the BoM so?
