This afternoon has been a harrowing ordeal for my family.
My youngest daughter texted me to let me know she was in lockdown at her dorm. She had just left her class and five minutes later a gunman entered and opened fire at Otto Miller Hall.
A dorm mate was missing for sometime, but later we found out she’s safe.
At this point one person has passed away so we’re asking you pray for all involved and for the families who have been affected. One female has life threatening injuries.
Staff members tackled the gunman and held him until SWAT arrived.
Thanks and God bless.
Michelle
how sad..when we read things like this we pray for those involved but it hits home when we read that hit close to home to those we care about.
Dear Pati –
Thanks for your kind words. It comforts our hearts right now. It still seems surreal as the kids on campus try to put pieces back together that have been strewn about.
Axi’s been home a couple of times since it happened to just cry in a safe place w/out news cameras hovering around.
The news stations won’t leave the kids alone – ugh. Then other unidentified groups are parading around on the campus yelling at students they should stop buying into the government’s lies – stop the NRA, and other ne-er do-wells that seem to have crawled out of their hole from somewhere.
As it turned out our daughter Axi had just left the building 3 minutes before the gunman entered. As you walk into the building there’s an open classroom that meets in the lobby and she was there chatting with other students but decided to leave. This is where Paul was killed.
The most amazing picture of God’s grace was seen in the family whose son had died.
They’re from Korea but happened to be in Portland visiting friends on Thursday.
When they heard the news they of course drove up here to Seattle and had ordered a basket of flowers and food for each floor in the dorm. They enclosed notes of encouragement from God’s word and reminded them they have missions to fulfill. Axi’s on the 1st floor and Paul (the boy who died) lived on the 5th floor.
Instead of waiting to hear from others to reach out, they were more concerned with how the kids at the school and his dorm were doing. Everyone was able to see where Paul had received his sweet spirit of laughter and giving from.
We will learn and continue to cling to what His word says in Psalm 62:1-2; “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”
Like you we see this stuff on television all the time and say prayers for those affected. It never in a million years would’ve crossed our minds that this could happen so close.
Continue to pray for Sarah who’s still in hospital. She was upgraded to serious condition. The other young man was released yesterday from pellet wounds to his neck and chest he suffered from the exploding shotgun shells.
The community found out the hero (Jon Meiss) who took the shooter down is getting married in a couple of weeks so donations poured in to pay for his wedding and purchase everything on their registry.
Whenever things like this happen I can’t help but think of the overwhelming depravity of mankind. It’s mind boggling just how awful the sin of Adam was.
Praise God He intervened!

I am thankful Axi has a safe place to go. We live in the next town (both are small towns) that had I think 18 students and 4 adult chaperones die on flight 800 years ago. The media was everywhere and did not allow the families time to grieve. I can sympathize with the families and with your Axi. God be with her as she struggles to make sense of all of this. {{Hugs}}
