Journal of Discourses 17:143; “As for their labor and pursuits in eternity I have not time to talk upon that subject; but we shall have plenty to do. We shall not be idle. We shall go on from one step to another, reaching forth into the eternities until we become like the Gods, and shall be able to frame for ourselves, by the behest and command of the Almighty. All those who are counted worthy to be exalted and to become Gods, even the sons of God, will go forth and have earths and worlds like those who framed this and millions on millions of others.
This is our home, built expressly for us by the Father of our spirits, who is the Father, maker, framer and producer of these mortal bodies that we now inherit, and which go back to mother earth.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, July 19, 1874
Romans 3:13; “Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips”.
Brigham’s all over the place with this one. He doesn’t have time (aka, knowledge) to tell members what they’ll be doing in heaven, but has enough time to lead them down the wrong road to false gods. Let’s look at a few of the phrases and words he used here and see what God has to say:
Mother earth – 1 Chronicles 16:26; “For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.”
Gods – Isaiah 43:10; “Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.”
Becoming like gods – Isaiah 46:5; “To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?”
Men exalted – Matthew 23:12; “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”
Men creating earths – Job 38:4; “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.”
Father of our spirits – John 1:12-13; “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
I also find it odd he doesn’t have a lot of info on this subject considering they’ve always taught we’ll be doing the same thing there that we do here, i.e. pregnancies, families, working…and none of those things include worshiping at the feet of the King!
