Jesus not Brothers with Belial

Journal of Discourses 4:220; “Christ and Belial have not become friends; they have never shaken hands; they never have agreed to be brothers and to be on good terms; no, never; and they never will, because they are diametrically opposed to each other. If one conquers, the other is destroyed. One or the other of them must triumph and utterly destroy and cast down his opponent. Light and darkness cannot dwell together, and so it is with the kingdom of God.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, February 8, 1857

Psalm 34:13; “Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.”

Mr. Young should’ve taken the advice from God.  He should’ve kept his lips shut.

The Mormon teaching refutes Mr. Young’s claim today as they’re of the opinion Jesus and Lucifer are brothers. While the word ‘belial’ means lawless one’, it also means a father of lies.  This is how Jesus referred to the devil and/or Satan; the father of lies.

It’d be hard not to be brothers with belial if you’re the brother of Lucifer.

This sermon was part of Brigham’s notorious speech on blood atonement and loving your neighbor enough to kill him so he can be saved. There’s really nothing useful or beneficial for Mormons now or then in the teachings of this man.

Furthermore, the comment about light and darkness not being able to coincide with each other is exactly the opposite of what Mormonism teaches! The Book of Mormon  proudly proclaims that Eve praised God for their sin and rejoiced in it because she wouldn’t know joy if she hadn’t of sinned against God. In Mormonism they refer to this as a ‘fall upward’
