Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, Chapter 17; “Jesus perfected his life and became our Christ. Priceless blood of a god was shed, and he became our Savior; his perfected life was given, and he became our Redeemer; his atonement for us made possible our return to our Heavenly Father.17” – Spencer W. Kimball
Luke 2:25-35; “And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
The blood of a god?
Jesus became our Savior and became our Redeemer?
Just how did Jesus perfect His life if He wasn’t already God?
How did Jesus qualify as a god if he wasn’t a polygamist and hadn’t been married in the temple?
If the teachings of Mormonism are true in today’s example then Mormons must dismiss what the Bible tells us in Luke.
Ask your Mormon friends/loved ones about this and see if they believe the miracle that took place in Simeon’s life.
If the passage in Luke is wrong then what was God doing in the life of Simeon and why did he say the things he did to Joseph and Mary?
One more thing for the non-Mormon who’s reading this –
Let’s clarify the phrase ‘…his atonement for us made possible our return to our Heavenly Father…’ That statement carries two distinct doctrines in Mormonism.
1.‘…his atonement made possible…’ In English this means that Jesus’ payment on the cross for our sins wasn’t absolute. For the Mormons, Jesus died so we could work our way to heaven.
2.The second part of this statement ‘return to our heavenly father’ means that before we came to earth we were all spirits who were sexually begotten through a union of the heavenly father and mother.
