Ensign, ‘Blessings of the Temple,’ October 2010; “As we touch the temple and love the temple, our lives will reflect our faith. As we go to the holy house, as we remember the covenants we make therein. We will be able to bear every trial and overcome each temptation.” – Thomas S. Monson
Mark 13:1-2; “And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! 2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”
Oh your lives will definitely reflect your actions alright. The words Mr. Monson chose to employ sound ‘off’ if you will. It sounds like he wants people to stroke a building like we pet our dogs.
Why is he referring to a temple as ‘the holy house’?
Without belaboring the strange words this man used in his article, let’s look at facts.
The temple was destroyed in 70 AD when Rome pummeled Jerusalem. To go back even further in time, God Himself tore the veil in two when His Son Jesus was crucified about 40 year prior to that. Because of that one event in the history of mankind, we were all given direct access to God. Jesus became the mediator and did for us what we couldn’t do on our own.
Why is this man prompting people to ignore what God did and reject the sacrifice of Jesus?
Does this sound like something a Christian leader should do?
