Changing Appearances for the Public

1978 Gospel Principles, p 290; “We can become Gods like our Heavenly Father. This is exaltation.”

1997 Gospel Principles, p 302; “We can become like our Heavenly Father. This is exaltation.”

2014 Gospel Principles, p 277; “We can become like our Heavenly Father. This is exaltation.”

Isaiah 44:8; “Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.”

As you can see in our LDS examples today, the teachings of the Church are as ambiguous as it gets.

The rest of their submission in this section of Gospel Principles goes on to say those who obey will be blessed by becoming gods;

‘They will become gods (see D&C 132:20–23).’

So we’re wondering…

If they’re going to become gods then why did they change this section of Gospel Principles? What purpose did it serve?

More importantly, if God said He didn’t know of any other gods, what does that mean for the Mormon people?
