One of the first things a bishop must do to help the needy is ask them to pay their tithing. Like the widow, if a destitute family is faced with the decision of paying their tithing or eating, they should pay their tithing. The bishop can help them with their food and other basic needs until they become self-reliant.” – Lynn G. Robbins
Luke 21:1-4; “And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. 2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. 3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: 4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.”
Leviticus 19:11; “Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.”
You know…I would never tell a pastor he shouldn’t preach on the importance of tithing. It’s important for us to tithe even on this side of the cross. The correct way of looking at this topic is to consider that everything you have is given to you by the Lord.
We in turn, should give back a minimum ten percent of what He’s given to us. My husband and I have found that when we’re faithful in this, the Lord blesses us with more than we can imagine.
This LDS teaching isn’t about paying tithe. This LDS teaching is about stealing.
1.Why would you take money from the poor and demand it at that?
2.Why would you tell members to pony up and you’ll give them food? Is that really tithing at this point or are you buying supplies for salvation…or worse…is this bribery?
3.Where in the Bible does God tell teachers to teach this way?
