Times and Seasons, 4:82; “A Vision,” Poem written in February 1843 (response to a poem written by W.W. Phelps); “From the council in Kolob, to time on the earth. And for ages to come unto them I will show My pleasure & will, what my kingdom will do: Eternity’s wonders they truly shall know”. — Joseph Smith
Isaiah 45:9, 12; “Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands? 12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.”
The Bible doesn’t say anything about Kolob, nor does it speak of mankind being with God before time began. In fact, the Bible is very clear that mankind was first created physically, and then spiritually. 1 Cor. 15:47
The snippet listed above is extracted from a set of poems Smith verbally shared in response to a letter written in poetic form by WW Phelps. Phelps was a Danite, got himself ex-communicated for disagreeing with Smith, and later reinstated after he repented. After Smith was killed, Brigham Young ex-communicated him again for disagreeing with leadership authority.
Last, but certainly not least, had it not occurred to Smith and/or others that God in His bountiful mercy had already told us His will? All we have to do is open a Bible and learn about Him Who created us and what He wants and expects from us.
Why should we listen to a prophet who tells us about a god who isn’t everlasting? Where is the hope in such a thing?
