Journal of Discourses 2:307; “There is no being in eternity about whom we have ever read or heard, but what has suffered in like manner as we have, for it was by suffering they had to gain their exaltation, as you and I will have to do.” — Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, June 3, 1855
Romans 10:9-10; “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
In Mormonism it seems that at every little twist and turn there’s another story. How high must we jump, which little keyhole must we squeeze ourselves through to be acceptable to God?
If you’re LDS do you have a clear understanding of all it entails?
The Bible has a clear, definitive, simple message for salvation. If you confess with your mouth you are saved.
This isn’t to say we don’t need baptism, nor does it mean we can behave in a manner not worthy of Him. However, our works are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6), and whatever we do we are saved by grace, not works (Eph. 2:8-9). Our ‘works’ are an outward manifestation of the inner heart of a saved man, not vice versa.
One more thing –
How do you explain the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22) or Jesus’ invitation ‘Come all you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest’? – Matthew 11:28-30
