The Telegraph (Painesville, OH), March 15, 1831, v. 2, no. 39; “Martin Harris, another chief of the Mormon impostors, arrived here last Saturday from the bible quarry in New York. He immediately planted himself in the bar-room of the hotel, where he soon commenced reading and explaining the Mormon hoax, and all the dark passages from Genesis to Revelations…
The meeting was closed, by a request of the landlord that the prophet should remove his quarters, which he did, and declaring, that all who believed the new bible would see Christ within fifteen years, and all who did not would absolutely be destroyed and dam’d.” – Eber Dudley Howe
Matthew 24:36; “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”
We’ve been receiving e-mails from Mormons lately asking us why we’re digging through old history to cast Joseph Smith in a bad light.
We believe it’s important to examine historical events of Smith’s life from all venues because he didn’t grow this church in a vacuum. Many people were involved, and many people were witnesses to events that took place ‘way back when’. Our example today is but one of countless testimonies provided by those who lived at the time. If they didn’t know him, no one did.
To date, we’ve not heard of Jesus’ return, which by Harris’ prophetic estimation should have taken place in 1846. As of today (5/7/2015), Jesus is 169 years late.
