On February 14, 1835 Joe Smith and his three BoM witnesses chose their twelve apostles for the LDS Church. Each of the twelve received a special blessing and each of those blessings contained at least one false prophecy!
Today we’re looking at a few of the false prophecies given in the blessing to Heber C. Kimball –
History of the Church 2:189; “The Blessing of Heber C. Kimball – Heber C. Kimball’s blessing was, in substance, that he shall be made like unto those who have been blessed before him; and be favored with the same blessing. That he might receive visions; the ministration of angels, and hear their voice; and even come into the presence of God; that many millions may be converted by his instrumentality; that angels may waft him from place to place, and that he may stand unto the coming of our Lord, and receive a crown in the Kingdom of our God; that he be made acquainted with the day when Christ shall come; that he shall be made perfect in faith; and that the deaf shall hear, the lame shall walk, the blind shall see, and greater things than these shall he do; that he shall have boldness of speech before the nations, and great power….”
Reasons why these are false prophecies –
The Mormon population consisted of less than 85,000 members in 1868 when Kimball died. That’s far less than the millions who would come to know the Mormon Jesus through the works of Kimball.
Angels weren’t wafting him from place to place.
As of the time of this writing (June 2015), Kimball died 147 years ago and Jesus still hasn’t returned.
God said the test of a prophet comes through what he says. If his prophecy doesn’t come to pass, he’s not to be trusted or listened to!
Deuteronomy 18:20-22; “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”
