LDS Hymn, ‘Address to Earth,’ by Eliza Roxcy Snow;
Millennial Star, Vol. 13, No. 17, September 1, 1857, p. 272
Thou, earth, wast once a glorious sphere
Of Noble Magnitude
That did with majesty appear
Among the worlds of God.
But they dimensions have been torn
Asunder piece by piece;
And each dismember’d fragment borne
Abroad to distant space.
When Enoch could no longer stay,
Amid corruption here;
Part of thyself was borne away,
To form another sphere.
That portion, where his city stood,
He gain’d by right approv’d;
And nearer to the throne of God
His planet upward mov’d
And when the Lord saw fit to hide
The ‘ten lost tribes” away
Thou wast divided to provide
The orb on which we stay.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5; “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.
Strongholds. Before we were saved, each of us had at least one stronghold entangling our thoughts, and actions. The cultures we grew up in may have numerous strongholds, or maybe it’s an old habit. Whatever the case may be, it’s important for us to disrobe ourselves from them so God’s Holy Spirit can work in us, perfecting us for the day we see Him (Eph. 2:10).
For many Mormons, it’s the culture that keeps them in the mess. The unfortunate thing in this is how the majority don’t fully realize the past heresies their heritage hides. Over 180 years ago this monstrosity of confusion was established, and one generation after the next passed on the lies.
The hymn referenced above is a classic example of another lie the Church has used to build its foundation. Eliza Snow (wife #20 for Joe Smith) was a woman whose life was built on spiritualism, witchcraft, and anything else popular in her day. She felt she was a priestess, and prophetess; ordained to serve in the temple because of her divine origin. Yikes!
From this info, it’s not difficult to see how/why her thoughts were so misguided about everything in life.
