October 17 – Sectarian priests. John 13:35; “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
We’re taking a look at LDS prophets to familiarize ourselves with who they were in hopes we can be a more effective witness to the Mormon people, and to understand the mindset of their leaders. We’re starting off with #1 – the fist Mormon prophet, Joseph Smith. You can find our complete list on our site and blog.
From what Mr. Smith had to say about other Christians, it’d be hard to say that he followed Jesus’ admonition so others would know you’re one of His disciples. It wasn’t until just recently the Mormon Church wanted to be included in the mainstream body of Christ. Their tendency has always been to be completely separate from Christians.
Elders Journal, Joseph Smith Jr., editor, vol.1, no.4, p. 60; “. . . All the priests who adhere to the sectarian religions of the day with all their followers, without one exception, receive their portion with the devil and his angels.”
