October 23 – God is Spirit. Matthew 19:26; “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
The 6th prophet of Mormonism was the son of Hyrum Smith, Joseph Smith’s older brother, so the roots run deep on his teachings and his dogged determination to seek no other viable lessons about God other than what had been passed down from his family.
The first hurdle the Mormon needs to get over is thinking God is a man, because He is not (Numbers 23:19), but even God can change a person’s heart if one is willing to seek Him and Him only.
One of the biggest shocks for a new ex-Mormon is finding out Jesus is God incarnate, and God is Spirit (John 4:24). After some healthy study and prayer, the Lord will reveal it to the person, but as stated above, he/she has to be a willing participant. It takes a lot to clear the cobwebs of Mormonism from one’s thinking, so if you have the blessing of witnessing to a Mormon, be patient! Explain with demonstrative evidence how and why, the Bible is telling the truth and their prophets have lied to them over the years.
Gospel Doctrine, p. 55; “I do not believe in the doctrine held by some that God is only a Spirit…for I can not conceive it possible that God could be a person, if he filled the immensity of space and was everywhere present at the same time. It is unreasonable, a physical, a theological inconsistency, to imagine that even God the eternal Father would be in two places, as an individual, at the same moment. It is impossible. But his power extends throughout the immensity of space…—Apr. C. R., 1916, p. 4.”
