Psalm 42:1-2; “To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”
A beloved Christian hymn was modeled after the biblical passage above. I remember finding the passage not long after the day of my salvation and was shocked to see how God could speak the deep inner feelings of my heart. Endearing me even more to it was the discovery someone had made it into a song. The wonders of a Christian life never ends!
These are the things we’re praying will be part of a Mormon’s life!
Today we’re looking at a few more talk summaries of the latest General Conference held October 1-2, 2016. Reading over them made my heart as sad for them as I was delighted upon my discovery God can speak to me personally through His word. I realize I keep pounding that same drum, and it’ll continue to be that way until my people come to know this Jesus of the Bible!
The blasphemies, and outright lies they’ve pawned off to its membership seem to be getting worse over time. You can read a full list of their presentations at LDS talk summaries.
4.Partaking of the Sacrament Helps Us become Holy
General Conference, ‘The Sacrament Can Help Us Become Holy,’ Sunday Morning Session, October 2, 2016; “I invite all of us to consider five ways to increase the impact and power of our regular participation in the sacred ordinance of the sacrament, an ordinance that can help us become holy.
- Prepare in Advance…Saturday may be a good time to contemplate our spiritual progress …
- Arrive Early Our sacrament experience can be enhanced…
- Sing and Learn from the Words of the Sacrament Hymn…
- Spiritually Participate in the Sacrament Prayers…
- Ponder and Remember Him as the Sacrament Emblems Are Passed
Peter F. Meurs
Truth:
We have just a few comments/questions for Mr. Meurs with regards to his speech.
How does one fulfill step #5 when the bread laden with yeast, is a reminder of what Jesus did? The Wonderbread is filled with leaven which represents sin. Jesus’ was a sinless sacrifice, the perfect sacrifice for the sin of man. God told the Israelites when they partake of this, the bread should be without leaven.
Furthermore, the water served at their Sacrament is supposed to remind them of Jesus’ blood. How can a transparent fluid be a good reminder of the blood spilt on Calvary’s hill? See Bread and Water, aka, Sacrament for more info.
Lastly, how does this make someone holy?
The Bible tells us God sees us as holy when we’ve accepted His sinless sacrifice for us through His Only Son. Why have Mormons taken the glory unto themselves by believing they’re made holy by drinking water and eating bread?
What work was there in this? What sacrifice was made? Whose blood was spilt?
5.The Four Steps in Knowing Jesus
General Conference, “If Ye Had Known Me,” Sunday Afternoon Session, October 2, 2016; “… Four essential steps that can help us come to know the Lord are exercising faith in Him, following Him, serving Him, and believing Him.
The exercise of faith in Jesus Christ is relying upon His merits, mercy, and grace…
… We continue to come to know the Lord as we seek through the power of His Atonement to become like Him. …
We more fully come to know the Lord as we serve Him and labor in His kingdom. …
We come to know the Savior…as we strive to say what He wants us to say…
… Believing Him with our whole soul comes as we press forward along the covenant pathway…” – David A. Bednar
Truth:
The Bible tells us God wants nothing more than for us to be conformed into the likeness of His Son Romans 8:29, and making us that way is His work Philippians 1:6. Doing this requires a few things though, and sadly enough, while Mr. Bednar’s method sounds really close to truth, we all know he’s way off base.
The first thing we must do is be transformed Romans 12:1-2, and lose ourselves in doing His will John 3:30. Mormons won’t do this for a number of reasons, the first of which is accepting what the Bible says about sin.
They don’t believe in the original sin theory, nor do they believe they’re the average sinner the Bible speaks about in its text. They also don’t believe they can be saved in their sin, rather, only from it.
Alma 11:37: “And I say unto you again that he [God] cannot save them in their sins; for I cannot deny his word, and he hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore, how can ye be saved, except ye inherit the kingdom of heaven? Therefore, ye cannot be saved in your sins.”
If you can’t believe you’ll be saved while in your sin, you’ll never be saved!
This means they can’t fulfill the first step in Mr. Bednar’s exercise, nor can they come close to meeting the requirements in the last two steps (#3 and 4).
Coming to know the Savior isn’t possible in the place Mormons have put themselves in. The Jesus of the Bible is not the Jesus of Mormonism. To truly know Jesus they have to accept He’s God incarnate, who is uncreated, and wasn’t literally begotten by an exalted man.
And lastly, for the record, the comment we should strive to say what he wants us to say would be laughable if not so tragic. This is nothing but code talk in the typical Mormon fashion. They wouldn’t know what God says unless the prophet told them word for word what their god says. As a result, they’re merely parroting what the man at the pulpit has told them to say.
My heart is broken over this man’s talk because I know my mother loves listening to him, and believes every word that comes out of his mouth.
6.To Whom are You Praying?
General Conference, ‘The Lord Jesus Christ Teaches Us to Pray,’ Saturday Morning Session, October 1, 2016; “[Jesus Christ] teaches you and me to pray as we see Him in our minds praying in Gethsemane and saying, “Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke 22:42). When you pray, do you really, truly want that “not my will, but thine, be done”?
… When you pray, are you really praying or just saying prayers?… When you pray, do you feel like the heaven is opened?…Do you prepare yourself to make important decisions by praying to your Heavenly Father?…At the very moment we say, “Father in Heaven,” He hears our prayers and is sensitive to us and our needs. And so His eyes and His ears are now connected to you. He reads our minds, and He feels our hearts. You cannot hide anything from Him. Now, the wonderful thing is that He will see you with eyes of love and mercy—…That we all may pray as Jesus has taught us to pray is my hope and my prayer.” – Juan A. Uceda
Truth:
The questions Mr. Uceda posed are great aren’t they? I say that in all sincerity. The problem is found in the fact Mormons refuse to pray to Jesus!
How can He teach them to pray if they’re not allowed to pray to Him?
Has any Mormon ever thought of this?
His name is in the title of the Church, but you’re not allowed to speak with Him… How do you build a relationship of trust when there’s no communication taking place?
If only one party is doing all the talking, it’s called dictating, not conversing.
Why aren’t Mormons allowed to direct prayer to Him, but yet commanded to trust in Him? How does that work?
1 Corinthians 1:2, 9 tells us to call upon the name of Jesus with whom we have fellowship. The word fellowship is ‘communion’. Now if we’re calling upon Him (Jesus), and we have a close fellowship with Him, how do we not speak with, or to, Him?
1 Corinthians 1:2, 9; “Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Please know we’re praying hard for you every day our dear Mormon friends! We pray you come to know the Jesus of the Bible, and will begin to ask questions. If you open your Bible, you’ll know the truth!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
