Luke 23:33; “And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.”
To set the stage for our topic today, we’ll first look at some key elements of what took place on the very day Jesus died.
We’re offering a few verses showing the reason why He died, the consequences of His death, and where He died (see Luke 23:33 above).
We’ve listed these things to point out the contradictions (aka false teachings) of what you’ll find in just one doctrinal teaching, from one Mormon prophet.
Just think for a moment…Mormonism has been around now for 186+ years. It’s produced sixteen prophets, and one hundred apostles since 1830. The number of other teachers are numerous as you might imagine, making the list of their contributions on teachings, and sermons virtually unknown.
With that said, imagine the discontent in a Mormon’s heart, and the constant turmoil reigning therein. I know this happens because I, like millions of others, lived it and have been set free only because of what He did! Pray for those who are still searching, and questioning the numerous contradictions that pour forth from their anointed leaders.
2 Corinthians 5:21; “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Isaiah 26:19a; “Thy dead men shall live, Together with my dead body shall they arise…”
The verse above is one of the most awesome scriptures God has given to us!
Romans 6:8; “Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.”
Romans 6:23; “For the wages of sin is death”.
Galatians 2:20; “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
Hebrews 9:16; “For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.”
In the references below, you’ll see the superfluous contradictions Joseph Fielding Smith preached from his pulpit. It’s surely one for the record books; of this there’s no doubt.
Jesus Paid for Sins in Gethsemane
Doctrines of Salvation 1:130; “GREATEST SUFFERING WAS IN GETHSEMANE. We speak of the passion of Jesus Christ. A great many people have an idea that when he was on the cross, and nails were driven into his hands and feet, that was his great suffering. His great suffering was before he ever was placed upon the cross. It was in the Garden of Gethsemane that the blood oozed from the pores of his body: “Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit-and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink…That was not when he was on the cross; that was in the garden. That is where he bled from every pore in his body.” – Joseph Fielding Smith
Jesus Paid for Sins in Gethsemane & the Cross
Doctrines of Salvation 1:131; “I say there never was a sin committed that was not atoned for. Christ paid the debt of my sins on one condition, and that is that I will believe in him and keep his commandments. He did that for you and for every other person in the world; but he never paid any debt on the cross, or before he went on the cross, for the sins of any of us, if we will be rebellious. If we are rebellious, we will have to pay the price ourselves.” – Joseph Fielding Smith
Jesus Paid for Sins on the Cross
Doctrines of Salvation 1:132; “We will never be able to pay the debt. The gratitude of our hearts should be filled to overflowing in love and obedience for his great and tender mercy. For what he has done, we should never fail him. He bought us with a price, the price of his great suffering and the spilling of his blood in sacrifice on the cross” – Joseph Fielding Smith
Cleansing Power of Jesus’ Death & Blood Shed on the Cross
Doctrines of Salvation 1:133; “The Latter-day Saints believe in the efficacy of the blood of Christ. They believe that through obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel they obtain a remission of sins; but this could not be if Christ had not died for them. If you did believe in blood atonement, I might ask you why the blood of Christ was shed, and in whose stead was it shed? I might ask you to explain the words of Paul, “Without shedding of blood is no remission.”” – Joseph Fielding Smith
So…just where did this Mormon Jesus pay for the sins of people, and what did that action cover?
