December 12 – Jesus is the Light. Isaiah 9:2 “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined…”
There are many beautiful adjectives in this passage describing what God would one day fulfill, so be sure to share this truth with a Mormon today! The fulfillment of this prophecy took place when Jesus announced He is the Light of the world – see John 8:12, John 9:5, 1 John 1:5, etc.
Unfortunately, Joseph Smith and other leaders of the Church, have attached those same descriptions to Smith himself. Although they erroneously claim Smith fulfilled many of these roles, you’ll want to point out that he couldn’t, and didn’t fufill the many roles described in these versees, nor was he the Light of the world. For further info see 77 Descriptions of Joseph Smith. Using a concordance to define the word ‘light’, share its meaning, and how many times it’s found in the Bible.
Improvement Era, June 1916, Vol. Xix, No. 8, pp. 718-719; “For the same reason the Prophet Joseph Smith was the most important man of his generation. Some day he will be honored by the whole world as a man who restored the lost knowledge of the true and living God, and answered anew the all-momentous question: “What must we do to be saved?””
