Ensign, ‘The Restoration of Major Doctrines through Joseph Smith: Priesthood, the Word of God, and the Temple,’ February 1989; “New scripture promotes faith in other sacred texts. Mormon 7:9 adds that the Nephite records were “written for the intent that ye may believe [the Bible].” [Morm. 7:9]” – By Donald Q. Cannon, Larry E. Dahl, and John W. Welch
Romans 15:4; “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
If the words of these LDS men, and the Book of Mormon were true, why has the Church spoken so poorly about the Bible in the past? Even Joseph Smith taught the Bible would is of little value.
Bible Will Profit You Little Encyclopedia of Joseph Smith’s Teachings, p 73; “You may hug up to yourselves the Bible, but, except through faith in it you get revelation for yourself, the Bible will profit you but little. (Hyrum L. Andrus and Helen Mae Andrus, comps., They Knew the Prophet, p. 101)”
Why does their statement of faith include a disclaimer they only believe the Bible ‘as far as it is translated correctly’? See Articles of Faith 1:8.
The article of faith is contradictory in and of itself, just like the statement they’ve made in their article, and tried to pawn off to its members.
Another contradiction in this whole scenario is once again, found the Book of Mormon. Incredibly, 2 Nephi 29:6, 10 makes the outrageous claim that people are fools for believing the bible is all they need!
2 Nephi 29:6, 10; “Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews? 10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written.”
