Recently I saw the image to the left on a Mormon Facebook page.
I’ve looked for a link to verify that Mr. Bednar actually made this statement while he was in the Philippians, but haven’t found anything. While we don’t know if he actually said this, or if it’s just the opinion of the creator of the image, it sure gives us some insight into the thinking process of some Mormons.
I’ve added a link under ‘References’ for you to check out the Facebook page for yourselves.
Coming back to the statement in the picture, when I first read it I thought to myself, it’s not hard at all not being a Mormon.
As a Mormon I worried all the time whether I was doing enough to qualify, and be worthy of exaltation. You see, Mormonism is very good at one thing: making the people doubt. It makes them doubt God, doubt His word, doubt His love for them, and doubt their salvation.
As a Christian I have no such worries or doubts, I know my salvation is secure in Jesus Christ. This isn’t because of what I have done, but because of what He has done on the cross for me.
Living the Christian life wasn’t easy for me at first. I felt the need to go back into my old ways of making an imaginary checklist of the things I wasn’t doing, and the things I should’ve been doing. I was still in the mindset of trying to see how I was measuring up to what I thought God wanted me to be.
It took me awhile to see that Jesus freed me from the bondage of legalism. I had the Holy Spirit and God’s word, which was all I needed to guide me, correct me and help me to embrace the new life I had in Jesus Christ.
Our identity shouldn’t be found in a religion, it should be found in Jesus Christ. So, to the person who made this statement, instead of talking about living your life with or without Mormonism, how about discussing what your life would be like if you turned it over to the real Jesus Christ?
In Christ
