LDS: Indians Turning White and Delightsome

Conference Report, October 1960, Afternoon Meeting 34 “At last the Indians are suitable. … The day of the Lamanites is nigh. For years they have been growing delightsome, and they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised. In this picture of the twenty Lamanite missionaries, fifteen of the twenty were as light as AngIos; five were darker but equally delightsome. The children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation.” – Spencer W. Kimball

Acts 17:26 “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation”.

This notorious clip from the Church’s past is one of the iconic reasons why Mormonism is racist.

I grew up in northern Utah amongst several awesome kids who were Navajo. Part of my childhood was also spent on the Blackfoot Indian Reservations in both Arco, and Blackfoot, Idaho. Not one of the kids I went to school with during those thirteen years got any lighter.

Kimball’s words were, and still are atrocious, and qualified him as a racist false prophet.

Now, although things have changed somewhat since my childhood days in the sixties, the sacred Mormon canon remains firmly intact. With the exception of one verse, 2 Nephi 30:6, this so-called holy book is still pregnant with racist ideologies.

How does the 21^st century Mormon reconcile their canon and past prophecies, in today’s society?

If you’re LDS, what are your thoughts about verses like 2 Nephi 5:21 that says the Mormon god cursed people with a dark skin? This doctrine clearly contradicts what the God of the Bible said in the book of Acts.

Please pray for Mormons to have the courage to denounce such fallacies and accept the true God of the Bible, that being Christ Jesus!
